I dunno, that all sounds a little too... sappy for him to be doing all of those. We know he sings, and likely reads, but the rest? Just seems kinda meh and over romanticised, lol.

I reckon he'd spend a lot of his free time training or something work related, given the situation in Thedas currently.

LOL I hear ya. For what it's worth, I do see him spending hours a day training... and then even more hours barking at the other soldiers, especially those under his command.

As for the singing, I honestly can only picture religious singing, perhaps under his breath. Or even just humming a tune while polishing his armor. I can't see him all out singing, musical style, and DEFINITELY can't picture him singing to the inquisitor. Now THAT'S sappy!

Reading, ah, well, I think most people read lol Nothing sappy about that.

Well, I meant more that we know he sings at some point, and everybody reads. It's just all the rest sounds very... Prince Charming/Jane Austine love interest, cheesy lol.

Ah, well, I was mostly joking with my little dialogue snippet. I can't actually see that happening.

I might write it in a fanfic though........ cause I'm a sap [GUILTY]

I just like the idea of Cullen having a hobby that he enjoys but is legitimately (not just self-deprecatingly) bad at. ;) It's not so much the specifics of which hobby it is, I just enjoy imagining him not being talented at everything he turns his hand to because I don't want him to become too perfect. :P

I wonder what kind of a hobbies and skills a man from a religious military order could have. If they sing the Chant (but apparently they don't - an awesome half-mad Chantry sister in Denerim was bitching about it), then I would imagine him having some musical education. All the rest is probably fighting, and what you can pick from the books, because monasteries and circles should be full of books. If he had some scribe duties, then he may have some skills in calligraphy and drawing. And maybe also some basic sewing/cooking skills (even Alistair had them, level 1).
I'm still hoping for a cute little hobby, like crocheting, or making ship models, or macramé  Wynne learnt to knit somewhere, maybe there are ways to learn these things in the Circle.

Yeah, I feel stuff like that adds character. ESPECIALLY when the character is kinda tough on the outside. I mean it would be like finding out Aveline collects paper dolls or something lol

But it's not really the sort of thing I'd see coming up in the game, except perhaps during banter. Someone like Varric teasing the uptight character for his/her little hobby.

I'm sure there would be. From personal experience, when you have enough bored people gathered in one place for an extended period of time, all it takes is one person who arrives knowing how to do it and pretty soon everyone knows.

Knitting needles probably aren't sharp enough that the templars would bother taking them away.

I guess what I'm saying is the first thing my Inquisitor wants when she gets back from a hard days battle is a bath and a good f*cking... not hand pressed flowers, a room full of damp paintings and a poetry reading, lol!

If he's gonna go all wet lettuce on her then you'll find her at the bar having a drinking contest with Iron Bull and Sera, although to be fair she'd do the drinking contest regardless!

lol I agree; I think my eyes would roll right out of my head if he pressed flowers or gave a poetry reading! But as I understand it, Alistair gives the Warden a rose; I think most players adore that moment, or am I wrong? :P Never done the romance, so I can only guess... :P

I like f*cking, too, but it's okay to have a small hobby in between all the f*cking and fighting and boozing! But I agree; I'm not into sap (except perhaps when writing fanfic lol). I'm just thinking about his character, or any character, and what sort of things can make them surprisingly interesting.

A one off is fine, plus Alistair was hilarious so he gets away with it. You need a big personality to get away with being a "traditionally romantic" character without it seeming cringeworthy.

Yes, I hope there will be some banter about that stuff.

Or maybe we will discover that Cullen was indeed very focused on his duty in the order, and he totally didn't have any interests and hobbies, and now he got out, and he's starting to learn something, and maybe even entered a padawanship, and now one of our companions is teaching him origami

Edit: I just want Cullen to have a silly soft trait to giggle about. That's all. He can even be a boss in the bedroom, I will skip the scenes anyway.

But also, in regards to the f*cking, the Inquisitor is gone for days/weeks/months at a time and Cullen isn't a companion so he can't come with her. I know what I'd wanna do after being away from my partner for that amount of time! Especially since she isn't a cheat, so it's not like she'd be shagging around elsewhere... Presumably/hopefully the same would apply to Cullen.

If he was gonna send her anything whilst she was away, lusty/longing letters about how much he misses her etc would be what my Inquisitor wants, keep the sexual tension building up ready for when she gets home.

Yeah I agree. Trust me, never read a single romance novel in my life  Again, my dialogue was mostly joking (I mean clearly lol) yet I also think it would be cool if he did have a hobby that was sort of unexpected. In all seriousness, I like writing romance, but I try not to let any of my characters fall into stereotypical roles. Besides, a character who is written as a white knight/Prince Charming character isn't even really a character; he's a stereotype, and that's bad writing. (Or he could be a parody, like the prince from Shrek II).

So, no, I do not want Cullen to present my inquisitor with an exquisite painting of a flower he spent days working on because he says it reminded him of my inquisitor's eyes LOL

But my inquisitor discovering that he does draw in his off-time, and discovering those badly done doodles perhaps at his desk, and then Cullen walking in... sorry, man, I just think that would be hilarious and cute lol

Oddly-shaped vaguely animal-like origami perched all over his office. No one has the guts to ask him what they are

Yes, yes, there will be f*cking! We were promised ME-like love scenes  I even think we will get sans-underwear love scenes. I'm kind of indifferent to the actual love scene; I'm fine with it so long as it isn't cheesy. I'm also fine with fading to black.

My inquisitor's gonna want him summa dat templar, definitely, but after they get down 'n dirty and are lying there breathing heavily, can't they, I dunno, at least talk or something?

Oh, I certainly wouldn't want a Witcher style sex scene or anything, those get awkward to watch LOL! I was just giving an example of what my Inquisitor would prefer out of him, not to actually be seen in game... Although, I wouldn't mind subtle hints and references to their bedroom activities in the form of banter, like when Zev offered Alistair sex tips, or Wynn mentioning that she overheard the Warden and Zev going at it in DA:O etc.

Yeah, if I'm supposed to take it seriously... ah, nope. For example, one of my least favorite dialogue choices in the Fenris romance is in Act 3, the diplomatic response to Fenris' apology for why he left in Act 3: "I understood. I always understood." Hawke says it so passionately that it makes me want to hurl. I almost always select the sarcastic response because it's so much better lol

And honestly, parts of the Anders romance also make me a bit queasy. There's that, "I've been lying awake thinking about you" line Anders has (something like that) that just makes me roll my eyes.

O.O I don't remember that banter. HA, I always wondered if the others could hear them (Warden and his/her LI); I mean, those tents are pretty close together LOL

Gee, how awkward for everyone else... I wonder if there was a lot of, erm, relieving of tension in people's tents when they overheard :P

I didn't mind Anders line about lying awake at night, but it felt weird because he'd had years to actually get with Hawke prior to that, lol! Had the game taken place over the course of a year and we'd actually seen the attraction and sexual tension build up then it would have had a better impact and not seem quite so cheesy/out of the blue.

When I heard that Anders' line, I thought, "Why didn't you just ask?" BioWare men and their imaginary problems, lol. I think if my Hawke were me, she would have never had any relationships with her team mates, just because it takes them years and years to confess, and I don't have that much patience. I mean, I can wait ten million years until my man returns home from military service, because I know he's mine, but waiting for a possibility that some hot guy may or may not confess that he loves me - no way, I'd find somebody else, who is more interested. I still can't believe Hawke didn't found someone normal in Kirkwall to start a normal relationship.
Anyway, if DAI romances are more like DAO/BG2 romances, then I think I will like them :) And I think in some interview they said that interacting on the missions will be important? For the romance? It makes me hope that Cullen will come along during his quests, and we will be able to have interesting interactions with him, and maybe learn something about his past.

Same, I'd flirt enough for them to have the chance to make a move if they're interested. It's at that point where they can flirt back or tell me they aren't interested. If, however they're gonna drag it out for months flirting and not doing anything about it I'll lay my cards on the table and if they still don't do anything about it then bollocks to them, lol.

I think my male Hawke whould start dating Keran's sister Macha. I liked her from the moment I saw her :) And she lived next door in the Low Town! Can't think of anybody for my lady Hawke though. Handsome and decent men are difficult to find in Kirkwall. They are either templars or with more issues than I find healthy :)

All the best men are templars, dammit! My poor Lady Hawke will never get married.

I didn't so much mind the LI dialogue in DA2 - I always did the Anders romance and even if the things he says are bit... overdone.... he is supposed to be this passionate man who does nothing halfway, for good or ill, so it makes sense that he would be very forward and unapologetic in his love for a person. Though I definitely agree there could have been more build up there.  But that's true for many things in that game, in my opinion.

What did bother me were Hawke's flirt lines.  Everything she said was just so... just... uh.  I could only really stand to play aggressive/direct Hawke, using the diplomatic/funny lines with my companions (RP'ed it that only Hawke's friends got see her softer side - granted, she came across as a total tsundere but it worked. Mostly.)  But every time that heart icon showed up it was like, oh God, dare I...?

I already have high hopes for the voice actress in Inquisition, but it would be nice if my character could say things that weren't completely lame or out of character.
