[MARY KIRBY]: Remember in Dragon Age II how Varric was being interrogated by Cassandra, who was working with Leliana and a large number of folks wearing eyeball symbols?

[DA]: Of course.

[MK]: That was the fledgling Inquisition. Divine Justinia V had questions, and Varric was the guy with all the answers.

Spoiler

D'awwww, poor Varric. It's cool, my Inquisitor will pick up where Hawke left off in the BFF stakes! I'll get him his woman back too, if the options there.

So that was the fledgling Inquisition after all! Which means the Divine must have already been dead by the time Varric got interrogated? Which also means that Cullen must have already been part of the Inquisition by that point!

*Edit* Wait, she was still alive? So the Divine had already started putting plans into place in case things went wrong!

Damn, Justinia must have had some serious foresight into this mess if she was already putting stuff into place.

She used to be a bard, plus she's in Orlais so I bet she's been playing the game for years. Sounds like she's been pulling also sorts of strings behind the scenes herself to safe guard things.

I'm pretty pissed we probably won't get a chance to talk to her what with the big boom.

I feel like she must have a spy in every major camp of Leliana's caliber, so that she can keep tabs on every major faction and organization in Thedas.

We don't know if there will be a brief section in which we get to talk to her before the boom.

We could, if the boom that makes you the head honcho happens after some sort of tutorial or orientation quest.

We're not supposed to talk about it, but he basically fucked us over. Turned out he was lying about all sorts of weird **** and then made a fake account pretending to be someone else, just to troll us. Said some really awful things to me and MD with this fake account... so I laid down the law.

AD??? Is that you? Figures I'd find you in the Cullen thread xD
I love your YouTube channel and I always watch the DA DnD, I was a huge supporter of #VivaLaBoris xD

Sad hearing about Alex.... But the mystery is solved I always wondered but we were told not to ask. He seemed sort of odd in the first few episodes, didn't think he'd mess up that badly though. Oh well, moving on. Looking forward to the twitch stream, I'm gonna wear my Venetian mask to match Scottish!

Sorry for the slightly-off topic post everyone else.

Whoa. Whoa whoa whoa. So... What was Cullen's role then? How could Cass not know what happened w Meredith if Cullen's already in Inquisition? Could this mean he's not in yet? Could that be how he joins? They go interrogate him next??

Tantalizing.

It could be that they recruited him after hearing Varric's story. Anything else is probably just a major plothole.

Dorothea wasn't a bard, she just slept with one  Or if she was, it was never really confirmed. Anyway, she seems to be competent at playing the game, so maybe she had some training.

Aww, Varric, I will always be your friend, please don't be sad.

Also, did no bother to ask Cullen what happened? I mean, he was there at the end of it all. If the Divine has already recruited him at that point, you'd think Cullen would have mentioned Meredith turning into a giant lyrium monster. Perhaps a bit of hand-waving will be required. Or Cullen hasn't been recruited yet, and he was Cassandra's next stop.

Yeeeah ... Or perhaps she goes back to headquarters after for a Come To Andraste talk with Cullen, who says, "Oh, you didn't know that?" *sheepish smile*

Every statement made by Cassandra should be prefaced with "bullshit!"  Just sayin'.

Seriously though, I love that girl  I will so make her my best friend in the game.  Whether she wants to be or not.

Inquisitor: Hey Cassandra, would you like Cheerios or Corn Flakes for breakfast?

Cassandra: Bullshit! I'll have the Cheerios.

Inquisitor: Saying "bullshit" doesn't even make sense in this context!

;)

I love Cassandra too. I think she's going to be one of my favorites, and I hope she'll be good friends with my Inquisitor. :)

I am sensing a make or break point with Cullen when Cameron said you get to end the mage/templar conflict one way or another.

Standing up against Meredith is one thing, standing against his whole belief in the need for templars is another....

Romancing him as a mage just got so much more challenging......

Being my mage Inquisitor just got more challenging, Cullen aside. ;) I mean, it does sound like it would complicate things with Cullen, but my more immediate concern is that given only the option to choose between supporting one of the existing factions, my Inquisitor would have to go against her own beliefs, first of all.

Ultimately Tempest (my Inquisitor) also believes there is a need for templars and circles. She'd like to see a lot of changes in how it all works, particularly in terms of preventing abuses, allowing mages to earn more freedom as they proven trustworthy, and ending the separation of families.

She's not at all comfortable with the idea of a complete mage free-for-all, though, because there are mages who can't be trusted, and those mages have a tremendous ability to do harm. Some mages need to be protected from themselves.

Because she's a mage herself, it wouldn't make sense for her to take the templar side if the extreme positions are the only options. It seems like as player, having only the two extremes takes away the option for a lot of characters. If you're playing a mage, it would be hard to justify not siding with mages unless there's some way to take a third option.

Plus... yeah, the Cullen romance. Possibly finished before it even started.

I just re-watched the interview to confirm this, but Cameron sort of alludes to that fact that choosing to side with the mages or the templars might be optional.  He says you can (emphasis on the word 'can,' twice) pick a side, and that if (and then corrects himself and says when) you do it will affect the scenes you see in game.  So it might be that you can potentially take a neutral stance?  Hard to say, yet.

I really hope it's possible to take a more neutral stance. It made sense not to be able to in DA2 because of the context, but I'd be pretty annoyed if we had to make the same choice again without any additional options. Surely in the Inquisitor's position versus Hawke's, it would be more realistic to have a few alternate paths that didn't involve your hand being completely forced by the story.

Oh, he won't get along with Cassandra. Interesting.

But... but... I always imagined them as forbidden lovers. :( I've shipped them for years!

*watches ship sink* :P

Maybe Cullen was on the run at that point, or maybe being interrogated himself? Or maybe the rebel Templars got hold of him???

Yeah, I would imagine Cullen being recruited later, after answering some awkward questions for his own Order about why he helped kill his boss and let a dangerous apostate mage go free. ;)

Hmmm, it makes me wonder. It took them nearly 3 years to track down Varric to get his end of the story, so where the hell was Cullen? The Circles had all rebelled by the time Varric had been interrogated...so perhaps Cullen is on the run then. Well, Mike Laidlaw talked about a multi-region, Cullen focused story arc, so maybe we have to hunt down the former Knight Captain.

Maybe that whole thing really messed with his head and he just disappeared for a while to get his head straight? Done some soul searching, etc?

For 3 years, though? And in such a way so that even the Divine couldn't track him down? That'd be hard to pull off.
