I was just questioning this on that other thread but I wanted to ask your opinions.
Why do you think people get so legitimately angry over the large amount of Cullen love? I was saying that I get not understanding a huge fanbase for a minor character but I've seen people get truly mad about it. Like, "how dare you appreciate a minor character!" That kind of mindset just makes me scratch my head so much.
I don't understand the hate at all, since some of Dragon Age's most memorable characters tend to be those with only a minor role, limited dialogue and nearly no impact on the story.
Wade and Herren, Denerim and Vigil's Keep's resident blacksmiths / bickering gay couple.
Dagna, the adorable Dwarven bookworm interested in magic.
Bodahn and Sandal, the Warden's merchant and Hawke's beleagured butler.
And even for a companion, who would have imagined Varric being so popular despite not being a love interest? Especially when you consider that aside from getting Hawke on the Deep Roads Expedition and indirectly being one of those responsible for everything that happens, Varric has actually very little impact on rest of the plot after Act 1? He's basically a minor major character, yet is probably one of the most popular characters in the series, much like Tali and Garrus became the breakout characters in Mass Effect, yet were basically extras in the first game.
It's a tad hypocritical of people to throw vitriol at Cullen for being no different than some of the other popular minor characters.
