Back to the Cass/Varric traveling/recruitment thing.

My theory is that Varric is being taken to the Divine, via Cassandra.  He is somewhat a prisoner, though not in chains/manacles.  As they approach the temple in Haven, they see all Fade breaking loose, and Cassandra runs on ahead of Varric to do what she can/see whats going on, whilst Varric starts killing demons and the like.  We meet Cassandra when she finds us and puts her sword to our throat.  After blah blah blah, we go out and find Varric still killing stuff, which is when he says, "Watch yourself, its raining demons out here".

It's my theory

It's as good a theory as any at this point. :)

Spoiler

Waiting is getting exhausting. I wish there was a demo. It'd be a great way to fill up the time until release.

After absorbing the "fledgling Inquisition" idea a bit more, I still just can't see how Cullen can already be a part of their organization before they talk to Varric. Of course, they don't go talk to Varric to find out they are wrong about Meredith, etc; they think they know what happened. But, you'd think a thing like "my boss turned into an abomination, flew, and then turned into stone" would be something you'd mention to the Divine and her secret agents worried about Kirkwall.  I stand by my lengthy and annoying arguments over the years that there's just no way they talked to him already, or they talked to him and didn't believe him/didn't ask the right questions. None of that suggests Cullen is bosom companions with Cass and Lel at that point. Hmmm....

For the moment, voting for "recruit Cullen and his faction afterwards." <_<

What if that choice at the beginning of the game that deals with the mage templar war has an impact on rather Cullen becomes an advisor to us.

One of the things that I keep picking at in my head is what he did immediately *After* Kirkwall. Would he, in the absence of any other authority (because Kirkwall was a damn mess), take it upon himself to get information to the Divine? At least about Meredith, if not about Hawke.?

I'm stuck on the idea that he may have been one of the Knight-Commanders that Lambert cornered. And I don't know what that would mean for him, for the Inquisition. The insinuation is made that not all of the 15 agreed with Lambert.

It could definitely have an impact on him, but I'd be surprised if we could suddenly lose one of three "pillars" of our organization. Of all the Inquisition members so far, I'd expect those three to be the only ones you *can't* lose. But time will tell. Once they finally actually admit those three are all advisors. <_<

I am curious to see what he thinks about the war, tho. I see him supporting order... and neither side of the war seems to champion that. LOL

This scares me a little, though. What if the pillars are an "either,or" kind of thing? I would cry a lot. :P

I'm pretty sure Cass and Leli are who are start out with. We then have to recruit a party rouge and mage, so I'm guessing Varric and Vivienne. I imagine Cullen comes in at some point during the formation of the Inquisition and getting party members and such.

yeah, hard to say. I still don't find it plausible that he's been sitting in Kirkwall as K-C for three years and it didn't occur to anyone to ask him what happened that day. Minus that fact, I always figured he could be K-C, and could have  been strong armed into supporting the breaking of the Accord.

That's pretty much it. Even if no one thought to ask him, I can't see him sitting on information like what happened to Meredith. I would think he'd feel duty-bound to tell *someone*.

Hmm, could be. I mean, heck, we don't really know anything. But, when they described how we can upgrade our keeps, it didn't sound either/or. It sounds like you could use all three pillar styles. Similarly with supporting different playing styles... I doubt you'd be locked in to only using military strategies for the rest of the game, you know? So I'm hopeful we get all three.

I am also hopeful we get all three. Because if it *is* a choice, my natural inclination would be to choose Trade, etc, over Military.

This is why I'm looking forward to learning more about them. :)

Exactly. I mean, he could have gone off to tell the Divine... but then why would her Hands not know what happened?

I don't think that having to choose between pillars would really make sense.

How could you have a military without trade to supply it or intelligence gathering to help you plan your strategy? How could you have politics and trade without a military to safeguard your interests and information gathering to give you an advantage? What would be the point of espionage if you couldn't put the information you gathered to political or military use?

I just don't see how the pillars could be independent of each other and still function. I think they're called pillars because you need all three to support your Inquisition.

I do think it is probably possible to make your advisers so angry they would leave, but I think that would be if you're making consistently crazy or stupid decisions, not something that would happen in the course of normal gameplay. If anything I think they'd have to give the Inquisitor a lot more leeway than companions would because they're irreplaceable; I don't think the devs would design it so disagreeing with one of them cripples your gameplay.

I doubt we have to choose. If we did, than I would choose Military. Because, Pure military strength > Money. Also, Cullen.

Your logic soothes me, Hannah. :) You make sense, and now I'm not really worried about it. Thank you for that. :)

Hypothetical Plot Twist:

Cullen is actually a follower and you have to choose between him and one of the Mages, probably Vivienne.

More crazy hypothetical theories, brought to you by Funderly.

If that were the case, Vivienne would be out out out. I'd keep her mage staff tho. I love that staff.

That would be.....something. In that situation, I would hope it would be Solas instead of Vivi. I don't like that Solas guy, he seems shifty. icon_suspicious.gif?t=1403404350

With apologies to all the other comrades, if I had to choose between Cullen and any one of them, it's going to be Cullen. ;)

It would have to be either Cullen or Varric. We don't really know too much about any of the other compainons. But........dat Dorian tho.
