I don't think Dorian will be anti-Tevinter exactly. I mean, he's against what the people from his country are doing from what we can tell not his country itself. In fact he seems to want to save his country from the rubbish going on there and how it's been made into the 'bad guy' because of it. That indicated a love for his country, just not the government.

I am hoping Dorian will be moderate, though. So I'm hoping they'll get along. I will be somewhat annoyed if Cullen doesn't learn to make nice with ANY mage companion.

Actually, I'm hoping Dorian is as much like Rhett Butler as he seems to be.

Oh I meaned anti-Tevinter more that way as well, not "let's burn the country and everyone in it"-way. I just wonder if he wants complete reforms or not, he's still from Tevinter and probaply doesn't want the place turn out exactly like Kirkwall or Orlais either. He might still like mages to have more freedom, maybe he thinks blood magic isn't that bad or something else which would make him clash with Cullen and his views : )

It'd be nice them to get along though ^^

Cole's the one that intrigues me. We've never had a demon companion before... especially one that's actively trying to be good, rather than bad, lol! It just goes to show that even demons can behave completely unexpectedly, LOL!

I still think he's spirit but I think that debate would be never ending... well I will see what he's when I have played the game :P

And Dorian and Cullen will totally be friends, and they will talk about hair all the time, and everybody will envy their awesome bromance!

Now as far as looks go I am most excited about Vivienne. She really looks like a black woman. My oldest daughter (who is adopted like my other two girls) is black and I am always so happy when games include strong, beautiful black women who ACTUALLY look black. I love her eyes, her nose, her full lips and I especially love her dark skin. Black Skin of any color is beautiful, whether it's a more fair shade because a person is biracial or just has that pigmentation, a shade in between or has a much deeper tone it's always lovely - but because of the way our current society is (in the U.S at least) it's usually rare to find main characters in games and other media that have women with truly dark skin. Typically you will find news companies prefer to hire biracial or lighter skinned blacks because "It makes the general viewership more comfortable." Urgh! It's 2014 and there are still so many unfair disadvantages for minorities of any kind. Being gay and in the deep south I've had to overcome some tough things, but like any father I worry about the prejudices my daughter will face far, far more.
So, I love that she has very dark skin because maybe it's small and just one part of a game, but it's another piece in the world that says "look, this skin is just as beautiful as any other." So thank you Bioware. I don't know if you meant for any impact like that when you made her character but irregardless it truley does matter. :)

It's a big step for gaming equality, really. I love how this game features not only a black person who isn't just a color-tinted version of everyone else, but one that is so freaking powerful. And a woman. Man, this game isn't just going to be awesome - it's going to be revolutionary.

I think it means to try very hard, to do your best and a little bit more. Unless it's a slang for some weird sexual activity, like pretty much everything in English

This is no lie.

Actually, I'm hoping Dorian is as much like Rhett Butler as he seems to be.

You know, I've been trying to put my finger on why I think Dorian is so freaking hot and you just nailed it.

I was thinking about the character profiles. Looks like all the companions have some kind of an unexpected twist. What is Cullen has one too? And it's something radical? Like, we expect Cullen to be the same nice, polite, and usually calm guy, but instead we'll get a Dark Side Cullen, who is now angry at the templars, and the Chantry, and the Circle? What if he thinks, "I gave them my best years! I was loyal, I did everything that was expected of me, and more! And what did I get in return? Let's see: stabbed in the back by the mages, stabbed in the back my Knight-Commander, stabbed in the back by the Chantry, because I disagreed. Well, screw you all now!"

6Lbg7p7.gif

And the Angry Cullen is really angry and badass, he has his own team of lions, and they trade with Carta for lyrium to keep them going, and he only joins the Inquisition to prevent the end of the world. And our task #1 is to restore Cullen's faith in humanity. =]

You know, as much as I like our sweet, easily embarrassed, polite and dutiful Cullen, this sounds hot. Also, team of lions? WANT.

You guys move to fast for me to keep up @_@

Any ways...I would like to see this really. Although I'm totally ok with him being the only one who doesn't let events change him either. hmm so many options to be had! If only we would get an interview or something with the writer :bandit:  ahh..maybe one day...in October.

I would love it if they'd do this, as I would totally expect to have his faith damaged in some ways after DA2. Sadly(?), since he's not a follower and *is* a LI, I can't help but question that he'd get that many words spent on his development.

Wow, R2, cynical much? :?

Isn't this exactly what Justice was in Awakenings, tho?

Justice wasn't a demon. He was initially a spirit with noble intentions, who was trying to free the souls the Baroness trapped, but her spell pulled him into the mortal world against his will. For the most part of the game he was confused about how he felt about it. To me it looks like he had the dynamics opposite of what Cole has. Cole starts as a bad guy, but eventually he learns to be a better person, and now he's trying to help us save the world.
Cole also doesn't seem to need a body, so he's a very unusual spirit/demon/being.

I don't really think Cole was ever a 'bad guy', unless you want to paint him with a very black and white brush? I mean he did murder people. That's pretty bad in a straight up black and white sort of view, but his motivations for such things were much more grey. That's what makes him so interesting, though.  :wizard:

I don't get how he doesn't need a body...Every spirit/demon so far has had to have one...and his body looks a little messed up (his eyes are yellow and...gunky, he really needs a tan, his lips are blue). I'm thinking like, he is possesing a body where the conciousness has departed (like Kristoff, but alive form) and the body grew up WITH him or something.

I HAVE BEEN WORKING ON THIS LINEART FOR LIKE 3 HOURS AND IT DOESN'T EVEN HAVE CULLEN IN IT. WHAT'S WRONG WITH ME.

My point was that Cole goes from that selfish scared murderer to a person who risks his life in an impossible battle he can't win to protect his friend for a time.

Justice goes from a guy with good intentions to someone who blows up a building full of innocent people to "prove a point". Whatever that was. To me it means that Justice has negative dynamics, and Cole has a positive one. Simplification makes it easier to see a general direction.

True, true!

And... that's actually a rather interesting contrast.

Hmm.

Not full of innocent people, at least not from anything we could see in the cutscene. Elthina's guilty of vast amounts of criminal negligence, and the rest are templars.

I just see spirits and demons as one in the same, just with different personalities and such, like people. Even PWeekes called Cole a spirit.

Marrill actually talks about this. I see it as a Chantry construct... a possibly dangerous one. By completely separating Demons and Spirits, it puts a subconscious idea into peoples' heads -- especially the mages in the tower who are taught the Chant -- that they don't have to be as wary of spirits. I think a healthy dose of caution around all fade creatures is the best way to be, though.

...Saying that, I still want to hug Cole and look after him. Poor baby.

My point was that both are Fade creatures, ie demons/spirits/pick your term, and so we've had one as companion before. Doesn't mean the story will be the same, nor that character arcs are the same. BW is pretty good at not repeating itself.

And how many times have we heard the phrase "I come in peace" from various stories only to have the 'good' entities are actually just leading naive people to slaughter? I agree on your view here because you just don't know the motivation behind a helpful spirit. What are they gaining?

Didn't one of the writers (DG?) said that Merrill was wrong, and spirits and demons are very different indeed?

I wonder if we'll get anything today, since Jessica and some of the DA crew are flying today....

...OR, better yet, I wonder if all these Twitter questions are because she's NOT the one doing it today. And Aaryn/Allan are sitting here going "...WHAT DO WE DO?"

Well, to be fair, he actually says this:

[DA]: So, Cole is definitely a demon?

[PW]: Welllllllll… he's definitely somewhere on the Demon-or-Spirit Spectrum of Fade Creatures (which I really hope exists somewhere). A lot of people will always see him as a demon. He would rather be a spirit. He's trying.

I'm just playing devil's advocate here-I'm interested in seeing how and why Cole shows up, and in what context.

I wonder, with all the Fade tearing and getting sucked physically into the Fade and all, with all the demons falling out of the sky and everything, if we (and Thedas) are going to find out that what we thought we knew about demons and spirits and the Fade is either wrong, or only a tiny part of the actuality.
