If there's a significant amount of race-gating, it may in fact be necessary for there to be more than six LIs for certain Inquisitors to have even one potential romance.

I see your point, and I certainly wouldn't want their romances to be an afterthought! But that's actually the main reason I fear Cullen is straight; there's no reason to make a character straight (usually it happens organically as you write the character; you realize, oh, s/he's straight). So it's the less interesting characters who will end up straight... and I fear that's the NPCs in the eyes of the writers.

Yay the interview is out (was out shopping so I'm just catching up) I did read that he is the male only option, so happy for those who were hoping for that outcome! I don't usually play male characters, but I just might have to at least once to see how his love arc turns out 
So this just leaves Iron Bull as the only possible temptation to draw my Inquisitor's attentions away from Cullen. As a small woman in a relationship with a much taller man, the idea of pairing my female elf up with IB is wayyy too appealing 
I'm sure as soon as I hear Cullen talk all those traitorous thoughts will fly right out the window!

I can't be tempted away from Cullen on my first playthrough, but if Varric and IB are available then there's a clear incentive to branch out the next go through. That being said, I said that about ME2, and I just can't leave Garrus
I'm still holding out hope for Varric. It's his second time as a companion... I think he might have been Garrused.

Im pretty boring, I always play a female human. But these characters are all so interesting, I might actually shake things up a bit and ACTUALLY roleplay as someone who isn't myself. Things seem much more complicated than they were in the first two games X_X. I would hate to have to watch everything on youtube instead of experiencing it for myself since every character I play always tends to end up doing the same things xD .....*angst*
I do really love FPJ though & a lot of unrequited Vega feels that will bubble up I'm sure as soon as I recruit IB. At the very least, he is going to be all my Inquisitors BFF
