The same would be true of a warrior Hawke who has the Templar ability.

 

From the Wiki:

"The strong arm of the Chantry, templars serve as guardians of the Circles of Magi, hunters of apostates and maleficarum, and rarely, as a standing army at the command of the Divine. Through ingestion of carefully prepared lyrium, templars gain resistance to magic, including the ability to interrupt spells. Though the Chantry controls the lyrium trade, those with the right connections can acquire enough to emulate the abilities of these vigilant warriors."

 

So it sounds like yes - our poor Templar Wardens, and Templar Hawkes are utilising Lyrium to "emulate" Templar abilities.

Ok, I've gone through the comics again and all I could find was a reference from Alistair saying that he'd resumed practicing his Templar abilities.

 

There is a section on the DA Wiki which references this whole thing and says that Alistair took lyrium as a recruit.  Which I remember reading somewhere, I swear it but that's all I can find quickly.

Notes

Contrary to the dialogue in Origins, Alistair took lyrium while being a templar recruit. Even though he stopped taking it, he is able to use templar abilities for a long time afterwards.[4] He also doesn't seem to suffer from lyrium withdrawal. Alistair resumed practicing templar abilities after the events of The Silent Grove.[5] It is not known whether this means that he started taking lyrium again.

A little bit of unsolicited advice about the age group which you may take or leave: Most groups of teens do have their ring leaders in my experience, and obviously I would suggest keeping a careful eye on those ones, especially in their interactions with peers who are follower types. However, I would also bet that in your group you have at least one or two quiet instigators who are very good at not appearing be the ones who started the issues but will stir issues up nonetheless. If you spot that happening, don't doubt yourself about what you're seeing and don't hesitate to call them on it - it'll happen quickly, so go with your gut and don't let them get away with it, or the group dynamic can get out of control very very fast.
 

That is useful information! I'm used to working in sessions that usually involve a single person and myself, or groups of adults and the way they behave and the overall dynamic is so different lol!

Also... Kirrahe, I assume you just naturally understood this given your own job, but for anyone else who might not have... I apologize if it seemed that I was being negative about my residents. I care deeply about them and would choose protecting them over my own personal safety any day. However, I would not be able to keep them safe if I was naive about their issues or gave the benefit of the doubt to potentially problematic behaviors. I just didn't want it to come off as I don't like them or something, because that could not be further from the truth. I like them a lot but sometimes I have to protect them from themselves.
