So a day later, I'm still feeling happy and excited about Cullen as LI.

 

I'm not worried about whether he's a companion. It would be nice to know, and I'd like it if he is, but I'm not fretting. I'm confident that the writers will do justice to his story either way.

 

Did everyone hear what they said at the panel re: making Cullen a LI? "We figured, hey man, three games, let's give him a shot. You go for it buddy, and if you're a little awkward? Well, that's okay!"

 

Haha, that's cute! I definitely think Cullen has matured, but a little awkward? Especially at first? Yes please! That sounds like the Cullen we know and love.

 

I hate to think it, but I think Cullen's gonna get a lot of the flak over what happened in Kirkwall, if he even stayed w/ the templars that is. That guy doesn't need any more torturing, but I have a bad feeling that the Templars are going to putting a lot of the punishment and blame on him.

 

Yeah, unfortunately I think Cullen may end up scapegoated for what happened in Kirkwall. If they need a target for blame, Cullen is the obvious choice. I see him being in pretty hot water with the templar hierarchy at this point just because there's no one else to hold to account, with Meredith dead.

 

With the speculation going around that previous PCs might appear, I wonder how Cullen is going to react if he mets Surana/Amell again. The way he was talking about Amell in DA2 sounds wistful, I hope Cullen gotten over it.

 

I don't think Cullen is in love with Amell/Surana anymore. I felt like the wistfulness was more about how much more innocent he was back then and how much simpler his life was.

 

Frankly, I think it would be pretty silly characterization if he was still carrying the torch after all this time for someone he didn't even know that well. I hope it's mentioned, but I also hope Cullen has managed to move on.

What kind of romance do you think he'll end up being? Smouldering/hot? Sweet? Tormented/troubled?  All of them?

 

I cannot wait to get my hands on him. 

 

All of them, I think? I think Cullen has both sweet and intense sides to his personality, and I think that would come out in a romance.

 

I also think given Cullen's past there would be some level of trouble to work through, but I hope that's not the primary focus of the relationship. I hope he's done some healing and gaining confidence on his own first.

 

Hee, romancing Cullen with a mage. We can do that now! And he can't run away! Er. For long!

 

I'm totally throwing a mage at him too. Not a scary blood mage, but a nice mage who will be kind and understanding toward him. So naturally he will not be able to help but fall in love.

Presumably he'd have his own men to order around and stuff, so I'm hoping in those moments before the final battle we'll be able to find him with his men giving them a pep talk.

 

Omg, how awesome would it be if we approached him whilst he was giving his men orders and we start doing the usual goodbye conversation etc (like we always do) and then he just totally throws caution to the wind and makes out with the Inquisitor in-front of all his men *Cue wolf whistling and stuff from them*.

 

... mind you, I guess that might be a little too similar to Kaidan's goodbye in ME3, lol. Still, it would be totally hot!

Yes. Actually, I have this crazy fear that on Monday the devs will get back to work and say "We were completely misunderstood. We never announced Cullen as LI. That was speculation taken out of context."

Well here is what I think. When people really didn't have anything to talk about, they turned to hate. The trolls really came out and things got ugly. But now that there's actual information slipping out, people are too busy speculating to spew hate.

So the way the video recorder reported Mike Laidlaw's words regarding the Cullen romance made it sound like a joke, like a funny thing they're just going to stick in the game for the player's amusement. But then again, ML is a very funny guy, so he kind of jokes about everything.

 

I took it completely differently. Yeah, it was stated in a joking way, but to me it seemed like an acknowledgment that Cullen is a worthy character with an arc that deserves completion. Which, obviously, I agree with. 

 

I feel the same way about Cullen... he's spent two games in the background, and now he deserves his chance to shine a little. After all the crap he's been through, I want to see him find some happiness finally. I want to see him get the chance to be the one who gets the girl/guy in the end.

 

I didn't read anything at all into the fact a dev joked about. Just because you can laugh about something doesn't mean you can't take it seriously also.

I think if he delivered the news super serious and deadpan I'd be wayyy more worried   They always tend to be more lighthearted when talking about the romances in general, since it can be a bit awkward talking about your boning options to a large crowd of fanboys/girls
