The one in Denerim? I remember him too, it was actually pretty sad to talk with him : /

Yeah, it was. Him and the elderly lady with dementia in ME3 just... they're one of those little details that just hit a raw nerve with me more than any of the major plot points. :c

Or that poor elderly cleric muddling up the Chant in front of the Denerim Chantry.

It does make you wonder how these poor people are coping with the Mage-Templar War, since elderly care wouldn't be a high priority for most of the Order or the Chantry now that both organisations are coming apart at the seams?

Theoretically speaking, there could be a Bethany/Caver situation.

I hope not, especially if it's dependant on class....I nearly always play a mage so I hardly ever had Bethany, as much as I love Carver a switch would have been nice sometimes, without having to play something I don't like.

And I want to Romance the pants off Cullen as much as a rogue as I do a mage ...

I wanted to touch on this particular subject, since I work in an adult assisted living home for the elderly. I can picture these poor Templars, older and their minds addled from lyrium, much like the people that I have to care for who have dementia or Alzheimers.

I never realized this before. I might have happened across it in the game, but forgot about it over the years. Anyway...

Imagine as an Inquisitor, for some reason, you have to go to one of these monasteries where Templars are "put out to pasture", and you have Cullen with you. Some of these older people are sitting quietly at tables, others are speaking softly to themselves, stuck in a loop from a time long ago, and they think they're speaking to someone who isn't there. And one is suddenly set off into a screaming rage, because something they see suddenly reminds them of a horrible incident with a mage, and the nuns have to rush to restrain him and calm him down, so he won't hurt himself, or anyone else that is there. These nuns have to dole out small portions of Lyrium, feeding the old templar's addiction, because to take them off of it entirely would be too cruel. Some of these old templars are so far along that they can't feed themselves, they have to be fed by the nuns; and they can't tell when they have to go, so they have to wear cloth diapers like a baby. The nuns have to change them when one soils himself.

What a bleak future indeed. I hope there's some way to get Cullen off the stuff before it's too late.

:crying:  You're ripping my heart out.

Another day, another I hate Cullen and his moronic fangirls thread.  You think they'd all get sick of it after a while.  Still, I've never been disliked in such good company before.   :)

I haven't gone into that particular thread, but something to consider: creating a thread specifically to comment upon or encourage comment upon the fans -- as opposed to the game or a character -- is really against the forum rules and philosophy. If that starts happening, I'd report that bad boy. It always seems neutral. "Why do people like Cullen?" But what it really says is "Why do THOSE FANGIRLS/CRAZIES/PEOPLE NOT LIKE ME/WOMEN like Cullen?" Folks start waxing eloquent about why someone else (namely the predominantly female, probably mindless, folk they imagine are his fans) might like a character, and it goes down hill from there pretty quick.

Allan has warned them, so he's watching it.  He pretty much read them the riot act. There are some reasonable people on there who aren't actually fans of the character but who also think the Cullen hate is silly, so I think they're saving the thread atm.

On Lyrium, the reason it seems familiar is because we've discussed it many times now in the last few weeks.

For reference again, David Gaider on how lyrium is needed for templar abilities, and without it, you lose the ability: http://swooping-is-b...om/1286233.html

Also, in comics, Those Who Speak #1, Alistair says he "[got] back into practice" with his templar skills.

Whether you love or hate him, he is discussed ALOT! Which to me means there is a big interest in him, one way or another.

I am not sure if all these hate thread creators realise they are actually strengthening his popularity.

I dunno that that really happens. The biggest problem around these parts is folks started to hate him partially because they heard about him so much, tending to blame the fans when in reality the haters talk about him here much more than we do. There are reasons we have 4000+ pages of discussion thread NOT in the main DA:I forums, and this is one of them.

Nevertheless, the devs have said time and again that they'd rather their characters be talked about and be divisive than be ignored. So while I wouldn't call  Cullen "popular," he's certainly hard to ignore!  :D

Well, I didn't know much about Fenris, but I hated him with a passion...just...first impressions I guess? Not to mention his constant complaining and whining....

True, perhaps popular isn't the right word. Though I mean popular in the way that no matter what is thought about him, he is talked about one way or another making him a popular person (of discussion). Which in turn draws more attention to him. Maybe famous/infamous is more a correct term :)

Like poor old Sebastian and Jacob Taylor. While they don't do anything that makes them hateworthy, the size of their threads on these forums make it rather obvious that not many people find them particularly interesting, compared to the other companions. They suffer from the worst fate that can befall a character, short of being seen as The Scrappy, the fans simply found them dull.

Which makes me wonder why people are so content to throw hate at Cullen, who people actually like to talk about? Isn't the fact that we're paying attention actually showing that he's a character we want to know more about and see more of?

If there's one thing you have to accept as a Cullen fan is that some folks hate him, and that's their prerogative. It's the fan hate I can't abide.

Isn't it odd how so "boring" character is debated and discussed so much? ^^;

What character would you like to see make an appearance in DAI?

I would want to see Isabella and Merrill return. Lol all I can see is Merrill joining Isabella and becoming a pirate

Merrill: what's this curvy sword called?
Isabella: what type of curvy sword are you talking about?
Isabella: there's the cutlass with is the sword while the other is-
Merrill: I got the information I wanted I don't need to know what the "other" type of sword your talking about.
Isabella: aww I was looking forward to showing you a picture of it in my book

And this is where and when you know good writing is being done. If a 'minor' character can strike a cord with someone, any cord, you know the writers are doing their job. If he was an unnoticed character, then they wouldn't have used him in this new game. But because he has so much buzz about him, regardless of what kind, it shows that people pay attention.

If you love him in game, there's a reason to use him. If you hate him, there's still a reason. It means the writers, voice actor and art directors have struck a nerve with you, so job well done.

I think had there not been so much discussion about him, they probably wouldn't have used him at all. So in a way, I like to thank the haters  just as much lol

Confession:  I posted a joke once about having a murder knife for Sebastian if he shows up in DA:I.  I am now sorry and take it all back.  Well...kinda'.   ;)

Have to disagree with you on Jacob. He practically screams "HATE ME!". But I really liked Sebastian. The only thing I have with him, (other than the romance), is that the only piece of speculation you can really do with him surrounds his Anders tantrum, whereas Cullen has his lyrium, his mages, his internal struggle, all of which could be taken in many different ways.
