Exactly, every one is entitled the their opinions, their likes and dislikes.  But so many of these threads end up being a defend your reasons for liking/hating such and such. When really there is no need, its no body elses business but yours and whether you like someone or not has no effect on how their game is going to be played out.

The devs put in who they like and who THEY feel will add to the game and all this, they are just put in for fan service, is a load of Griffon droppings.

What it really boils down to is I don't like this person and I don't want him in my team, so he has no right to be in the game.

Couldn't have said it better m'self.

Not gonna lie - I expected sparkly text and rampant fangirling when I came here. Having participated in the Twitter hashtagging, where we are, perhaps, slightly rabid, I didn't expect such an engaging conversation. You all are seriously awesome and I love how we discuss theory and game history in addition to all of the Cullen love. I've learned so much about my favorite series since I've started lurking.

So, basically, these jerkfaces have no clue what they're missing out on.

I'll be honest I don't pay much attention to those threads and it's fine if some of you guys do, but the only line I remember reading that really set me off was
"Why do people like Cullen?" And someone's response was "Eh because they're women, they like anything." That is such a chauvinistic, back handed, dismissive and disgusting way to look at it. Even if he was joking that poster said so much about his personal character. It really irritated me and sort of struck me to the core about how unfair some men are when it comes to things like YOU women expressing personal opinions and preferences! GASP! And that because you are women those opinions are inherently wrong and that you aren't intelligent enough to realize you are wasting energy on liking something stupid!

People man. Sometimes. I am kinda ashamed to admit this but I do hope he is a companion not only because I really hope for it....but also so everyone saying he is nothing but a fan service NPC who has no chance of getting in is proven wrong.....

But on a WAY more positive note I really hope tomorrow we get a follower Friday. I'd imagine you all already know who I hope it is, but really I'm excited to see any one :D

Uhhh, what?!

Lemme at 'em. I'll put them in their place. Shortly after, what, putting on my shoes and getting out of the freaking kitchen?!

Folks start waxing eloquent about why someone else (namely the predominantly female, probably mindless, folk they imagine are his fans) might like a character, and it goes down hill from there pretty quick.

This always makes me giggle... knowing how many in this thread are actually highly intelligent, educated professionals. We're talking bona fide scientists, teachers, mental health professionals, etc. Probably the same people who they'll be looking at to save them when the zombie apocalypse comes.

Or in other words, Cullen being a love interest is a gift. Unfortunately, some people will use that as an excuse into indulge in the G.I.F.T.

I guess so. I'd definitely say we've been fortunate that they decided to make him an LI for those people who want to romance him.

Of course, if he turns out to be a romanceable NPC I'll still be a little disappointed because (for me personally) romancing him is only a small part of what interests me. The biggest thing was that I wanted to take him out into the world and experience the different thoughts/reactions he has to things since he's served in the Order for so long that it's likely narrowed his mind, lol.

Yes, this is how I feel. As a romance, we get to experience Cullen emotionally. We get to learn about how he feels, how his personality is, how he takes flirting, how he reacts to being in love. And these are all fascinating parts of his character and I am overjoyed that we get to do that. But, I also want to know how he reacts under pressure of combat. Is he pragmatic, leave some to die so others might live? Or is he idealistic, still, after everything? Does conflict with blood mages bring out the worst in him? Do Red Templars? Does he associate red templars with Meredith? Does he warn them of the dangers?

As I said, getting even half of that is... honestly, more than I expected. How did Wrex put it? Better than I feared, worse than I hoped. I am content with this. But I am human, and thus, I want more:P

I agree, romance is nice and all but I believe that you truly get the opportunity to know a character when he/she's a companion...Still as far as I'm concerned,I find no room for negativeness in the current situation,Cullen's in,he probably has a big part and he's a LI,this is much more than I expected!

I figured it was because this guy is pissed that Cullen is getting all of the attention from ladies and he isn't. Henceforth, jealousy ensues.... Seems the most logical answer... Still, it is unwarranted to make such a nonchalant remark... *shrugs*

I guess at least we'll likely get one quest with him, even if it is just a recruitment/encounter quest of sorts.

I have this feeling I'll be making a hard save there, and just replaying it over and over.

CULLEN: It feels like we've... done this before.

INQUISITOR: No, no, no... Now say that one line again. You know. In that way. [SQUEE]

So I'm guessing that if Cullen is apparently a "fanservice", every cameo ever has been a fanservice, returning companions in ME were fanservice, upcoming characters from books that appear in-game will be fanservice, and every LI is a fanservice. So I guess bioware should just remove all of those....sooo no game then?

A huge part of what makes bioware games different is that they do care about the fans. They put those little tidbits in to make fans giggle and smile, but at the same time the bigger cameos or dialogue are clearly important. If bioware put Cullen in the game..THREE TIMES..they clearly think he's important to the story, just like they think morrigan is important to the story for DAI, which is why she would be appearing again. Not because they wanted to do a "fanservice" to morrigan fans. All these trolls are basically insulting the bioware writers more than anything, which IMO is pretty shallow. Everyone is entitled to hate a character, but that doesn't mean you need to post a new thread simply to rage at the fans and writers.

Sorry, just wanted to share my opinion :3

So, last night I was working on memorizing a long list of chemical reactions and their mechanisms, and checking in on the Cullen thread every 5 reactions or so as a study break. When I eventually got to bed I dreamt that I had a brilliant mnemonic for remembering how all the electrons were moving, using Cullen's shifting opinions about the Circle / the Order as an analogy (in the dream I drew a little schematic in my notes of electron-pushing arrows bouncing down his nose). The kind of thing that makes PERFECT sense at the time and you wake up to realize is total nonsense. This is the only dream I have had about Dragon Age to date, which is kind of garbage.

And I am so looking forward to hearing about the VO session today or tomorrow! Even if it turns out he can't tell us anything. :)

I'm hopeful that a VO session would be during business hours. So... once 10am Edmonton time hits, I think we should start watching the GE twitter feed. I'm sure he'll tweet us from the booth, like he did last time.

Y'know, I don't think I've seen a single person complain that Morrigan's return is just fan service.

It does make me chuckle when you see certain individuals hate on Cullen and scream fan-service, only to find them moments later in a Morrigan thread squeeing and cooing over her, going on about how they can't wait to learn about how his and Morrigan's son is getting on etc!

LOL That may be the most awesome DA dream I've ever heard (sorry Lola! ;) ). Too bad it didn't actually help you with the memorization. A Culleny mnemonic for chemistry would be rather memorable, I imagine, like for the rest of your life instead of just for the test!
