I'm not understanding you. ^^" So because a few out of a large population like him for that reason, it represents the whole population then?  I don't follow but I'll just stop there.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

You guys. I can't wait for tomorrow. I want to know Scribble's name, and I want to see Cullen, so it is a win-win.  B) (I almost said it's only tomorrow until tomorrow. My brain is not functioning right now.<<)

If a few out of a large population are fans for a certain reason, then saying almost certainly to "does that have anything to do with it?" is correct because it does have something to do with it.

Leliana may get an interview tomorrow too, so it is a win-win-win.

The person was wondering whether part of the reason Cullen's fanbase is so big is because of the Magi Origin thing.
Laidlaw answers almost certainly.
If even 1% of fans are fans because of this(which there is) then the Magi Origin thing is part of the reason Cullen's fanbase is so big and Laidlaw is correct in his answer.

Better?

Yes. I see your point, and agree that there is a narrow sliver of possibility that that's what the question was asking.

First of all...ew.

I meant why are we irritated due to the one comment? I don't think Laidlaw is trying slight us or insult us at all.

I don't think so either. But I didn't expect that sort of generalization coming from him, of all people. I guess male fans of Cullen weren't even considered since apparently there aren't that many of us.

If he clarifies it, fine. If not, fine. The world won't come to an end if he doesn't.  *shrug*

2. Mike Laidlaw is always silently laughing at us. Don't even kid yourself. Most people just don't realize it because he hides it with winky faces and heavy sarcasm.

Even though Laidlaw is my boyfriend and I <3 him...he's been banished to the couch tonight.

I think what bugs me most is that it's yet another episode of  "Why Do People [i.e. fangirls] Like Cullen?" Silly me, I thought we were past generalizing about the fans.

What I got out of it with the "Almost certainly." wasn't that he was saying anything at all like "All Cullen fans ship him with their Mage Wardens."

But to say that the Fem!Mage Warden fans had nothing to do with his popularity is to toss their opinion aside, maybe.

I know that's not the intent, and I know that we're so used to people assuming that's *all* we are that we all get a little eye-rolley.

I'm just saying I don't think the question was intended to be sh!tty (because he clarified in subsequent tweets with folks), and I don't think Laidlaw's response was meant to be dismissive.

I have a crappy headache and I'm waiting for the advil to kick in, so let me try to sum up this longwinded horse crap. :P

I don't think Laidlaw's response was dismissive or meant to belittle Cullen fans. It's not untrue. However, it's not a complete truth, just a small part of it. Twitter does not lend itself to in depth explanations. I know, I tried to explain Cullen's humanity and couldn't do it in 140 characters. :D

I've been around "silly fangirls." (female romance-focused gamer, so I can also call myself that). I got run out of a thread and had a romance ruined by them. You guys are not that. And actually I'm amazed at how flexible and tolerant you guys are.

This is exactly the point. Needing to understand the one monolithic reason why any diverse group of people does anything is annoying, particularly when that group includes you. Some folks liked him from the first game. Some from the second. Some neither and are interested in his future potential. But chalking it only up to the 'forbidden love' angle in DA:O flirts terribly close to the "silly fangirls" argument.

Right, I just wanted to point out that the conversation here, in response to the Twitter comments, seemed to be veering towards implying that those of us in the first subgroup you mentioned are automatically "silly fangirls", which annoyed me almost as much as the original post. But that part of the conversation seems to be over now, so, awesome.

EDIT: And everything looks bigger when I'm reading on a tiny phone screen, I guess. *sigh*

I get what your saying now, but I'm not sure that was meant. Oh well, like I said my brain is dead at the moment.

And yes! Triple win. I wonder how she's changed? The 'to the rare friend, she is Leliana' has certainly raised my interest.

Part of the problem, I think, is that we've heard that generalization before. A lot, from lots of people. (Not so much right now, but with Cullen news incoming, we're bound for another wave.) And it's not fun to see it being dragged out and given encouragement by a Dev. Do I think ML meant anything by it? No. I think he was being as non-specific as he could. I mean, it's not his job to champion the cause of us Cullenites, and Twitter isn't exactly a great platform to be overly complex. Also, to be fair, I'm pretty sure a quite a few Cullen fans got into Cullen because he was the cute Templar they could make run off by being too forward.

Everyone breathe.  Save your vitriol for the trolls that'll be coming once Cullen gets his own page on the Dragon Age site.

I personally was a little annoyed so I responded explaining my own reason for liking Cullen and how I grew to like him. Otherwise I'm not too worried about it.

Here is the Twitter list containing as many of the devs and Cullenites as I could think of: https://twitter.com/...enites-and-devs

If you don't see your name on the list, let me know.

I'm @ Kaibekay.

I agree. I mean, Cullen was interesting in DA2 because of his development, but without his crush on a mage in DAO, or his statements about his faith in the Order all the way back then, I don't think I'd find him to be nearly as complex a character as I do now.

Of course I never played a female Amell so his relationship with my Amell seemed to be one of friendly respect. And I am fine with that as my personal canon for Cullen (with him never having had a crush on an Amell) because I don't think that changes his character at all. At one point, Cullen was a young man who saw no real difference between mages and non-mages (and of course in a fem playthrough, enabled him to crush on a mage). But after what happened to him in The Pink Bubble of Doom, his viewpoint altered entirely.

Yet I can also see and respect how playing that fem Amell can have such a meaningful impact on how a player views the character, most definitely.

I think he should have either ignored the question or answered it less succinctly.

I think the sad root of it, is that to be considered a "fangirl" for liking an attractive (seemingly straight) male character, you are automatically considered a "silly fangirl", and it gets very irritating when some people just handwave and eye roll away your likes/wants/wishes/desires based on the negative connotation that goes with that title.  So, I guess its a kneejerk reaction to be defensive about it.

I fully agree with you. I found him to be interesting, but it was the way people analyzed him that made me a fan because he was actually quite a complex character!

I don't know. I'm sure Justina's death is going to hit her really hard though considering their history.
