I am so boggled by all of this. I have gay, straight and bi friends and these words like 'bi-phobia' and 'bi-erasure' have never come up. i actually had to go and look up what bi-erasure meant. I'm kind of glad I live in a country where non of this is a huge issue. Sure there are still people that discriminate but they get slammed for it pretty quickly, it just isn't tolerated here. In my town alone, we have a woman on our council and she is openly cross-gender and no one cares.

I guess it just makes me sad that any of you - as well as anyone else - feels discriminated against because of your preferred sexual preference. That's what i have taken from all of this, though as I said I'm not used to speaking about such things so I could be making no sense right now.

Late, but...

They are fighting words. I take it you missed the Twitter fight between the writers over who was better looking. It got quite heated. Just so you know, Patrick and I were in Dean's corner, David and Karin in Sam's. Cori was the tie-breaker, and Dean won.

(Castiel was not in the running, and neither was Dad Winchester--that would have been unfair.)

And I had to jump through a few hoops get this for you guys, so... here you go:

True. I agree. I don't think it's fair to demonize those that did like the all-bi system. That being said, I'm more happy with the homosexual and bisexual representation in DAI.

Out of likes, sigh. But like :)

Allies are also important to the LGBT community, so thank you. Sadly it comes from all sides. I can't tell you the number of times I've been to pride events (which should be safe spaces) and gotten eye rolls from Lesbians when I say I'm bisexual, who say I'm either in the closet or just pretending to like other women for attention from men. Neither of which are true, and both very hurtful things to say, especially coming from people who should know how it feels to be discriminated against. Also, whenever people say I have "straight passing privilege" I flip out. That's not a thing.

ETA: I MISS YOU KIRRAHE. I also love Crowley. I love him even though he killed half of my SPN OTP.

I wanted to romance him. But it's okay. I'll just make a male Inquisitor for one of my playthroughs. Not a big deal!

This is what I'm confused about, since it's easy enough to explore and experience that romance arc.  All it takes is making a rather interesting male character, right?  I simply don't understand the angst.

I don't even know what "straight passing privilege" is! I'm 27 and I feel so sheltered right now. People like who they want to like, it's not as if any of us have a choice in the matter! That's the end of it, there is no right or wrong about it, it just is and EVERYONE needs to learn to accept that. *Huffs out a breath*

Gender identity is a powerful thing. What's easy for one person may be difficult, uncomfortable, or even impossible for another :) (Not that the situation excuses rude behavior or responses to straight or gay characters, of course.)

WTH is "straight passing privilege"?

Think of all the people who had to play a certain gender to romance Alistair or Morrigan. For some, it was perfectly fine, but for others, it was uncomfortable or not as fulfilling.

I am not good with terminology generally, but I've heard this bullcrap applied to me. It means that my being bisexual/pansexual doesn't really *count* because I can "pass as straight" because I"m a woman married to a man.

It's horsesh!t, and silly.

I personally don't mind having to play a different gender so I can romance someone imparticular. But you are right, not everyone feels the same way about this and some people have a stronger sense of gender identity as others and we can't judge them on that, just the same as we wouldn't judge others on their preferred sexual preference.

As well as that, I want everyone to have the same fulfilling experience as I when playing the game.

That will be me.....standing there staring at you in my badass STG uniform. We'll look at eachother awkwardly and you'll ask
"Who are those guys?" And I'll reply "My task force...I don't know who they are either."

then we'll all watch anime together and talk about great literature. It will be awesome! :D

But then it's like meeting someone in RL, who's orientation is different than yours or who expresses no real interest in a romance with you.  What's uncomfortable, to me, is trying to force that person into a mold they weren't designed to fill.  I suppose, even when it's a fictional character.  It makes the character seem more like a doll, rather than the unique character they are.  It's why I never downloaded the mods that "forced" a different orientation onto a character.  To me, personally, it just didn't feel right.

And maybe.  I'm just that comfortable playing either male or female characters.  Complete with racey orientations and not-so-traditional relationships.  Got a stinging rebuke from someone in a personal message once about one of my Fanfic characters, because they were offended his marriage was "comfortably open".  I was like, "Blah, he's MY character.  Go read something else."

That is awful.  As if yer merely pretending to love someone, even.  Puke-able.
