I have to admit, I can only see the lovable goof from Parks and Rec when I look at that guy. And I DO love that guy; he's totally my type (I love fluffy guys ) But I definitely can't see Cullen because of that.

That's what my son told me like 5 minutes ago.  Apparently, that will influence the impression.

Long time lurker.  Posted before in the v2.0 thread and went back into hiding.      This thread seems to move a mile a minute, but you never know what you'll find here.  Rather read the posts here than on the other boards, though.  The hostility ...   .

 

Anyway, I wonder if Cullen will be customizable and if there will be select battles that he participates in.  In one of the images, his sword is clearly a two-hand, but in the other 2, we can see a shield (the close up one his shield is slightly visible).  So makes me wonder if he participates in that big castle battle we see even if he's just an NPC.  If that's at Skyhold, he'd have to partake.  So would be cute if he mentions the fight alongside Hawke in DA2 during it.  Wouldn't make much sense for him to swap weapons or even have a helm if he didn't fight at one point or another.  There's also the possibility when we first start off, we have Cassandra and Cullen chasing us around ... and maybe Varric until we get our next companion or we reach Skyhold.  Until we get Skyhold, Cullen has no where to go ... although I'm sure most of us wouldn't be opposed to him sleeping in our tents.     So makes sense for him to chase us around until the story gives us more companions.  In DAO we had temporary companions after meeting Alistair ... until they died.  Since there's an image of Cullen, Morrigan, and what looks to be the inquisitor, maybe our starting party is Cullen, Morrigan, and Cassandra.  Then Cullen later drops out for Varric who I'm sure will join early on and Morrigan drops out for either Dorian, Solas, or Vivienne.  Wishful thinking at any rate.  

 

I also can't help but wonder if he'll use his helm as a way to hide himself blushing if the inquisitor flirts with him.  If he still has the hint of the awkward young man he was in DAO, the inquisitor (his boss technically) flirting with him might cause him to be flustered.  Would be funny if he then puts on his helmet to hide his face so the inquisitor has to convince him to remove it ... or forcibly takes it off.  He might be more mature when it comes to the Templars and mages, but as far as we know, he hasn't had much of a relationship with the opposite sex.  He could still be awkward in regards to that.

I was also wondering about whether or not we could "customize" his armor. I'd love to see him in something different... That furry collar is nice, but I think it hides too much. In fact, all of his armor hides too much. I just want him in my skivvies when we're at the base.

 

Edit: Oops! Freudian slip! I meant, I want him in HIS skivvies! LOL!

Only discovered too late that this wonderful thread has compiled a Q&A that clears up all the frustrating things I constantly try to point out to people they get wrong about Cullen. Oh well, anyway - I spent months putting it together might as well link it! It's more in-depth about his role in Origins and how (I feel) it was meant to be interpreted, but if you'd like to sit down and have a long read about my analysis of his role/character in Origins, have at it! I probably need to fix my username but this is Shutterbones/Tys for everyone else that knows me. I've been lurking the Cullen threads for a loooonnngg time. (though have fallen out of the discussions in the past few years, admittedly)

I've read in another thread that Cullen is a Knight-Commander now. I didn't know that. Last time I checked he was still a Knight-Captain in DA 2. So, I'm wondering where and why and how he got promoted? Does anybody know?

 

I'm assuming de facto "field promotion" when he relieved Meredith and then she was killed, and he still just defaulted to that position while working to rebuild the city. I would assume that by the breaking of the Nevarran Accord he was already part of the fledgling Inquisition and thus was not counted among the Knight-Commanders involved.

 

 

So, between this and his line about the qunari in DA2, Cullen clearly has issues with followers of non-Andrastian religions. How would you expect this to be brought up in DAI, if at all?

 

I'm of the perspective that both of those things are very situational. Oghren was being insensitive and minimizing when Cullen had just been tortured, and the Qunari in question were a hostile occupation, not just friendly foreigners minding their own business.

 

It's possible he has deep racial biases, but to me it seems like "heathens" is more a default insult when he's upset. When he's in a more neutral position (for example, a dwarf Warden who isn't antagonizing him) he doesn't seem to do that. We'll have to see, I guess.

 

Would you guys rather we recruit Cullen or that he is there from the beginning? From the blurb it looks like it will be the latter. I think it will be nice to have him already there.

 

Ideally I'd like him there from the beginning and then to have a quest related to him later on, for maximum time spent with Cullen and opportunities to develop the (romantic or otherwise) relationship.
