Well we've had the pictures and now the interview, so I suppose that's pretty much it until the games released Cullen-wise. We'll probably see the VA video and maybe hear about his sexual orientation. I suppose there's always hope for random screenshots.

I wonder if he really left the Templars due to a big crisis of faith or if it wasn't rather that the organisation was ignoring the bloody great demon spewing portals to hell popping up everywhere and he felt compelled to act. Six of one, half dozen the other, I suppose. He's with the Inquisition now and there will be some backstory to account for it.

I'm rather relieved to read that DG confirmed equity of the companion/advisor word budget - phew, I hadn't heard it before and it seems to indicate Cullen will get as much attention as the other LIs. I'm shipping Cassy and Cully, when my Quizzy is otherwise occupied. They'd make a cute, slightly terrifying couple

I don't think Cullen left because of a crisis of faith. More I think, it's because the order left him. They pulled away from the Chantry todeal with the "mage problem" and left Thedas open.

I'm seconding the private life thing. We see some of it in DA2, but ultimately, we only see Cullen on duty. We know he's shy around sexual women (the mage Warden initiates, and he's awkward with the brothel), so what's he like around more professional women, or dudes. He a drinker? Templar!Carver mentions they turn the Chant of Light into a drinking song. 

Does a female Hawke count as a professional woman? If so, well, he was pretty dutiful focused on his duties in DA2. But by the looks of his smirk, he's ready to loosen up a bit, eh?

He really is one of the few characters you see grow across 3 games

 

Definitely, that's one of his best selling points. Maybe it's not a very spectacular character development for some, but there's something that puts him above the others: he developed it without PC input.

-Mage Origin: He had already a crush on a certain female mage even before the PC talked to him. Everybody knew. His crush was his alone.

-Circle quest: He was saved by the Warden, but he had a great hate for the mages because of the torture he experienced. The PC couldn't convince him otherwise. His hate was his alone.

-DAII: From being Meredith's right hand to turning against her, Cullen did it by his own judgement. No persuasion check by Hawke or a rousing speech to make the PC convince him to change sides. His decision was his alone.

 

For what I've read in the character profile, it seems that Cullen is already an advisor and one of the key people in forming the Inquisition, so I don't think we wilol recruit him; he will be there already. So another decision of his without PC input.

I love a man who can think for himself. I think that he will challenge the Inquisitor to look deeper, and find the truth in things, whether they be good or bad. He is probably going to be the most HONEST character in the game.

Very satisfied by the interview, since as everyone here, I want to know more about his past and motives, and also I'm looking forward to spend some relax time with him (I'm sure he wouldn't say no to a pint !).

[DA]: What did you enjoy most about writing him?

 

[BB]: Cullen's been through a lot. As a result, he takes his new position very seriously. Your soldiers depend on him, after all, and he will do right by them. He expects a lot of the Inquisition and of himself. Some of my favorite parts to write were the moments where he lets that drop a bit—the moments where you see him relax and he can be the person behind the soldier.

I always imagined that he lived in a town where there were Templars stationed, and he got to know one or two of them. He liked them, and they were kind, and kind tothe mages they found. SO he wanted to grow up to be like them.

Right now I'd go with either the "raised as an orphan in the chantry" theory or  the "poor farmboy wanted to be a knight but perhaps didn't have the means,so joined the templar order instead."one, but who knows they might surprise us with something else...

Don't know how Mello would draw it but now I am seeing Cullen slowly bringing the cone to his lips...taking a long slow lick from the bottom to the tip whilst looking   provocatively into your eyes...he's really working it then...oh dear the whole top of the ice cream pops off the cone and into his lap.....

Yeah I always thought of him thinking that being a Templar would be better than the life he currently had. His family would have held a strong sense in the andastrian faith and I could imagine him spending his younger days playing at being a Templar and day-dreaming about true knights and waiting for the day he could be one himself.

LOL Well, it's been very hot, here, and I LOVE ice cream. SO I just kinda always imagine him eating it very delicately, but it starts to melt for him too fast to keep up, so he starts to panic a little bit.

But I don't think I can draw him so provocative. I know it's for fun but well, it's not... like him.
