I took it completely differently. Yeah, it was stated in a joking way, but to me it seemed like an acknowledgment that Cullen is a worthy character with an arc that deserves completion. Which, obviously, I agree with.  :)

I feel the same way about Cullen... he's spent two games in the background, and now he deserves his chance to shine a little. After all the crap he's been through, I want to see him find some happiness finally. I want to see him get the chance to be the one who gets the girl/guy in the end.

I didn't read anything at all into the fact a dev joked about. Just because you can laugh about something doesn't mean you can't take it seriously also.  :)

After watching the panel and seeing how lighthearted atmosphere it had, with all Mike Laidlaw's  and Jessica's jokes, I see it as a bit of teasing on his part. And the fact that actually he is in the 3rd game indicates that devs/writers thought that he brings something interesting to the table.

Hey, R2, thanks for setting this thread up. You really are Queen of the Cullenites!

Not a queen, a Culleesi.

(I am so sorry.)

It would be really odd if you found out that Cullen was the last mage companion.  Turns out he'

s been hiding his magic all these years and has finally come out of the closet you might say.

I must admit I'd freak out a little!Considering all the things we know so far about him and the DA lore in general...

Then again, how would you call  a templar mage?A Templarage or a magelar?

It's cause you wanna see Cullen in all his Frostbite-y glory, admit it  ;) Seriously I am so damn excited to see how he's going to look, I really hope they show us a glimpse of him in game soon. Even a blurry shot can hold me over for now!

I wonder if they have custom body builds for companions/romance options...

Another way to look at it is that in DA2 we had no interaction with the companions beyond the small handful of times when we had to visit their home hubs to chat with them, usually at the begin and end of each act, so if Cullen is a romanceable NPC then we're already used to it anyway, plus the devs said that in DAI they're going back to a more investigative conversation based way of interacting with your companions, so already we know his romance will be better than what we had in DA2.

This is true. Good point! I'm starting to feel better.

"Cullenites," MLaw said, patting our shoulder awkwardly. "There's ... there's something the devs have to tell you." He shares a long look with MDarrah, who nods decisively in encouragement. "I know it's been three games now, but I'm afraid... well ... "

As he trails off, DG gives a explosive sigh and steps forward. "Cullen's not a love interest!" he exclaims. "There I said it. Deal with it."

My likes are on cooldown and you made me laugh out loud dear R2

Oh well I'm sure if I knew anything about it, I'd be laughing my head off right now. Now excuse me, I'll just crawl into a GOT-less corner and play with my socks.

Probably not, just for different races per usual. I'm not so much thinking about how his body will look anyway, I'm really interested in seeing how comparable he is to his DA2 and Origins looks.

Wasn't he the one that started the whole, "We forgot the romances!"? Or was that DG... (that would be typical of him  )

It could be that, but he could also just be an extra 5th romance, like Sebastian was in DA2.

Maker, Sebastian was the hottest guy in DA2 but the absolute worst romance. I can only hope they won't make that mistake again. :/

I think more body types in general would be very welcome. Seeing Mama Leandra with the same body as any of the young fit women in the game was just weird.

Oh wow, I'm late to the thread. This is my first post, gotta say something intelligent... Umm... Hi everyone! :D

Yay for Cullen being a romance option! You guys should have seen me yesterday when I heard the news. Man, I probably kept my neighbors up all night with all of my squeeing.

While on the topic of Cullen's romance, I'm confident in the devs ability to provide us with a fleshed-out, well-implemented Cullen romance, NPC or no. I have yet to be disappointed with a single DA romance.

I look forward to Cullen's inclusion in DAI, I hope he's a companion, and I know I will enjoy MANY playthroughs full of Cullen lovin'. Aw yeah.

"In other news, Bioware employee, and popular Dragon age dev, David Gaider, was mauled by a crowd of what people have been calling "Cullenites", more at eleven."

I already had a headcanon that Templars were just another form of hedgemage. Can't connect with the Fade like a full mage but still has latent abilties. The chantry just hides by saying that the ineligible don't have the "discipline" to be a Templar. The lyrium just makes their abilities more potent and Alistair says that a Templar doesn't NEED the lyrium to use their anti-magic, it is just easier and more powerful. Just like a regular mage and using lyrium. =p

The templar needing/not needing lyrium to smite people thing is iffy.

I believe what Alistair said in the game was retconned in the comics: Templars do have to take lyrium to use their abilities.

Everyone (besides dwarves) is supposed to have some sort of magical abilities, but only mages can actually tap into it. I hope future games get into why some people are mages and some are not. Genetics seem to play a role into it but I want to know more.

So, in order for Cullen to be a companion, we'd need for one of these things to be true:

1) The Grey Warden needs to be either a rogue now, or completely gone.

2) Cullen needs to be a rogue.

3) LadyInsanity needs to have gotten some information wrong.  :D

Of these three, I think the Grey Warden being a rogue is the most likely. Not as likely as Cullen simply being an NPC, though.

There is another possibility. What if they changed up the weapons system, and rouges now can have a sword and sheild, but have different movements and abilities with that.

OR

Someone is a temp companion.
