*mutters something about not having enough likes*

Sign me up for also super-excited for an NPC romance. Joker from Mass Effect was my first call to arms on the subject, which, uh, didn't work out so well for me. But I really like the dynamic of that kind of relationship--one of them going off to fight battles and right wrongs, while the other did something equally important, but probably not as dangerous, back at base. Granted, it seems that Cullen will also be going off to do epic things without us, which puts us in that worrying seat, which is so awesome. Ah, I can't wait to see how this plays out in game!

I'm just really excited about NPC LI's, guys.

Super excited about NPC romance over here as well.

LIKE

[SNRRK] Now I'm imagining Cullen just having this naturally gloriously beautiful hair, and it just boggles Leliana, Dorian, Varric, and Vivienne's minds, because Cullen is so completely practical and not-fabulous. Like, he isn't using his powers of fabulous to their full potential. Thus they spend their days trying to get Cullen to come over to the fabulous side.

See, the devs said that the advisors can't be in our party, but then we know we have some sort of quests with them... so are they being purposely obscure and it just means that the advisor (for example, Cullen) will come with us and fight with us but not be in our party (thus not being controllable) or does it mean that they'll literally just show up in cutscenes during a quest?

Did Leliana fight with us in the E3 demo at Redcliffe?

I think she did during the fight with Alexius.

Only in the cutscenes, but they kept jumping backwards and forwards and only showed a tiny part of the redcliffe quest.

I think it could be something similar to Mass Effect. All of yours companions went with You for suicide mission, but You have only two with Shepard and the rest were showing in cut scenes. have to admit that I enjoyed a lot by this situation. I imagine, that there will be a missions, where PC will need her/his soldiers as a support, and then Cullen will show up (maybe in a cut scene) with troops to aid PC and her/his team.

Y'know, I never thought to check that, lol. I suppose if they do then it'll be along the same vein as Cullen helping us in DA2 with Meredith and us helping him with Wilmod where he's fighting with us but not directly in our party.

I remember Alexius blasted her at the beginning, so I had assumed she was stunned and not fighting.

I think that, most times, the advisor will probably say, "Meet you there", and be there when you arrive at the quest's location. Perhaps there will be one quest, or part of a quest, where they tag along as an non-controllable combatant, the fifth wheel, but never in your party. But probably nothing more than that.

Makes me wonder how that "Cullen-centric" quest works that Mike Laidlaw spoke about... if that was even legit.

One of the developer said on twitter (I think it was Mike Laidlaw) that we will see the advisors a lot. So, I agree with RGS_Ines and Phate Phoenix. The advisors will travel indepently to the location and meet us there. You will probably be able to interact with them then, so I also think it might be similar to what they did in Mass Effect.

Probably more like a, "I need this done, desperately, and I only trust you to do it." type quest instead of one where Cullen tags along. That's what I believed when he first spoke about it, anyway. So it's Cullen-centric, in that it's about Cullen, but not necessarily that it has Cullen with you every step of the way.

Maybe so, but I'd also like to see "I need to do this, Inquisitor....but I don't think I can do it alone."

Because I'd be all over his needing ME. :D

Well, that would be alright, too.

(I just don't think it's very likely, if it's a longish quest.)

Agreed. I think there are two ways how they could have implemented Cullen's quest:

1. "When you want this ally/whatever then you need to do this *quest* for me".

2. A more personal approach. When you gain Cullen's trust, he might tell you something personal and seek your help with a problem he is having. Similar to Alistair's lost locket. You don't need to have Alistair in your party, you can find the locket without him. Since they moved away from the gifts it will probably be something else. But the quest will be designed in a way that you can do it without Cullen.

Happy 2000!

I'm sorry I missed it. But I wrote a little drunk one-shot, while being quite drunk, so I'm sorry if nothing makes sense, and everyone is OOC!

Welcome and have a cookie.

Posted in proxy by me but created by Ericander77 who is not available to post it himself.   :D

It's always nice to see this again.   But I thought Eric only added the cookies? I'm pretty sure there's a version around from before he joined the thread that had no cookies. I forget who did it though.

You know, I do think Cullen's face in this shot looks as if they tried to meld a bit of GE's visage with it... I like some of the other shots better, tbh. ^_^

Will we learn specializations from companions in #DAI or unlock them as we level up like in DA2?

Mike Laidlaw ‏@Mike_Laidlaw

Neither.

Interesting... So perhaps we'll have NPC tutors to teach us specializations.

...That's right. Didn't they say they wanted the specializations to be quest-locked??? Meaning, you'd have to go out and do a quest to get it?

specialisation stuff

By neither, I think they mean they are available from level 7 (or whatever level it is), no matter what. We could probably kill Dorian right off the bat and still have access to the Necromancer specialisation or refuse Iron Bull's help and still be able to become a Reaver, etc.
