 Good morning!

It took me a while to it to finally sink in regarding which of your siblings makes it through the prologue -- and why. DA2's writers wanted to make sure your Hawke has a vested interest in the Mage/Templar war.If your Hawke is a mage, there would be no counterbalance to the conflict if Bethany survives. Likewise, if your Hawke is a rogue or warrior and Carver lives there wouldn't be a compelling reason to support the mages.

I always found that simply being Hawke made it more difficult to support the Templars and not feel like you were doing something wrong. Your father was an apostate mage and  your sister is/was one. So even if Hawke isn't a mage it just feels like he/she is going against the family and the people closest to them. It doesn't help that you hang around with mages either. DA2 gave us lots of good reasons to support the Templars (at least a bit) but I felt like we were playing a character that really wasn't written to support them. Hawke either had to be very middling and just support the Templars when forced or he/she had to be a total psycho for it to make sense to me.

Maybe I feel like that because in real life I would probably support the mages. I did play pro Templar Hawkes but my pro mage hawkes just felt more realistic. That wasn't the case in origins where I felt like I could play all kinds of different viewpoints.

Good morning, everyone!

So, kind of like being your own Magic 8 ball? ;) kidding ^.^
----
@PotatoCat Have you read Asunder? From what I've gathered, Cole is a bit polarizing because of the novel. Or, more specifically, the ending of it. I've added the book to my reading list, but I'll have to make it a point to read it before the game comes out. If you haven't read it, we could start a DA book club! :D

I'm nearly half way through. I have some time tonight, so I'm looking forward to reading some more. I don't like Cole as of yet. But then again, I don't like Rhys either and he's in nearly every Cole scene I've read and heavily referenced in the ones he's not.

As for the book club, it's getting harder and harder for me to not read TME, so I'd love to have a book club for that one! Lol

@Potato Cat: You know I was absolutely turned off by Iron Bull when I first heard about him? Same with Sera. I mean I was waiting for more info, but those survey leaks really didn't do them justice and I now understand why the devs were so adamant to explain why information might have changed. After his appearance though I've been a bit more positive and then learning he's being voiced by FPJ who is also going full Connery just made me instantly want to make him a mainstay on my team.

I don't recall that part about the first enchanters, so I'll have to re-read it. My initial guess that those First Enchanters that couldn't attend probably sent representatives, so there were still a total of 14 or 15 or whatever.

The "official" 14 mention was one of the DA:O load screen factoids. There are 13 listed in the wiki.

One explanation could be that some of those attending were also retired First Enchanters who still opinions still carried great weight, which would explain why we've got 14 "official" Circles and nearly 20 attendees?

For example, presumably the leadership of the Starkhaven Circle is still around and operating, even if the Circle itself was destroyed as of 9:31?

Personally I kind of regret reading the novel before the game, while it gives an insight into the mage-templar war, it'll now be difficult not to meta-game with all the information I have about Cole. For that reason I still haven't read my copy of TME yet, apart from some parts where one of the characters, mentions the ancient elves.

I honestly don't know. Everything he does just seems to get on my nerves though. I like Adrian, even though I disagree with her strong views, and I like Evangeline too I suppose. All the other new characters I don't like however, and it's only Lambert I'm vaguely interested despite my dislike.

What we really need is Leliana Cullen and Scribbles doing this.

 roxbury-guys.gif

Yes Yes... someone do this... Please! I'll feed your Halla for a month and brush his mane

Hopefully I will be able to modify this gif a little tonight ;)

But don't touch my Cullen's mane, I will brush it myself!

How about you Lola, any companion reveals/LI reveals that your particularly fond of that you didn't expect? Same question to everyone of course.

You mean, besides Cullen  :P

Some, not all lol.

BTW, LolaLei, how was the meet up in London?

Also, on the subject of siblings, while I personally like Bethany slightly more, it seems like her character arc never goes anywhere. Either she joins the Circle and her family's entire struggle winds up being for naught, or she joins the Wardens and is miserable. At least Carver has a satisfactory conclusion.

Sera I always had picked out as my Inquisitor's bestie for the simple fact she was an elf. Now I'm worried she won't like my Inquisitor much so I'll probably end up being really two faced around her like I was in Origins to get her approval up!

As for the FPJ reveal, I was worried when I saw him speaking in the Iron Bull voice in the flesh. It just seemed dead off putting and weird! But I closed my eyes and watched the footage again, and I can safely see it. Panic over.

Interesting. I haven't read Asunder yet but I was going to before the game comes out. But then again, I have already read so many spoilers on the forum here, so I thought: Why bother? I still haven't made up my mind.

Edited because of stupid typo.

This is the only thing putting me off reading TME, even though I'm desperate to now I've listened to Lady Insanity read the first chapter. It's already pulled me in more than Asunder has.

I highly doubt the Chantry let Kirkwall just hang in the breeze without leadership for 3 years. There are 15 circles and there were 15 KCs at Lambert's
meeting. Someone must've been representing Kirkwall. But maybe that's not what you're suggesting...

As far as we know, there are 13 Circles in White Thedas.
I with leadership you mean the Grand Cleric, then yes, they probably appointed one. I'm not sure on the KC. The Circle in Kirkwall was either Annulled or the mages escaped. The possible survivors of the Annulment would've been sent to other Circles. There wasn't technically the need to a full templar stronghold in the city anymore.
I'm not saying this surely happened, but I think it's possible.

I dunno, Bethany in the Circle provides a much more personal reason to defend the Mages at the end.  She becomes sort of the example of the decent mages that are threatened by Meredith's insanity.  Which Cullen finally realizes and pulls back from (so this doesn't go too off-topic  ;) )

Ironically, that design decision failed to invest me in the conflict, mainly because of the poor way it was handled. Both sides were presented as full of extremists, with little compelling reason to support either. Had there been a third "Screw you both - I'm outta here!" option - I would take it every time.

I felt the same way about the Orzammar quest line in Origins - Bhelen and Harrowmount were both fundamentally corrupt but you had to support one of them as king or else the Grey Wardens' treaty couldn't be honored. I compare it to being asked if you'd rather be shot or stabbed; you have to make a choice but neither one sounds attractive.

I already have that with Orsino and Alain.

It's a really good novel and I definitely recommend reading it,I don't consider it too spoilery unlike the masked empire.Of course it may change your first impression about Cole.

But while Orsino and Alain were nice on the surface, Orsino still covered up Quentin's twisted experiments and Alain (however reluctantly) joined a group of extremist mages (twice), so neither of them are exactly "decent" per se, unlike Bethany.

I know!!I couldn't resist reading some parts where Felassan describes the ancient elves, but still I avoided everything that has to do with Celene or Gaspard because,I want my Inquisitors to form their own opinion about them.

Page 337:
"This conclave, if it could really be called such, was nothing like that.
The White Spire's great hall dwarfed those present: fifteen firsrt enchanters, short four who couldn't make it in time, plus the Grand Enchanter. Other than that there was simply himself [Rhys], Adrian, and Wynne."
Page 411:
"Fifteen Knight-Commanders in one room, and not a single one had raised a voice in protest. They all knew what needed to be done. Those few that held private reservations would either remain silent or be replaced."

hmm. This could also be a good one for DG since it's his book. Maybe on twitter if he doesn't answer on tumblr anymore. Or ask both DG and BG?

Then again the date references in Asunder are all wonky too, referring incorrectly to Anders doing his thing "a year ago" instead of 3ish years ago.

I'd say Gaider (though I can't tweet him).
The second phrase isn't necessarily against the other though. It stated there are 15 KC, but we don't know if it means there are more of them.

Yes! :D For a second I read "TWE" (Damn dyslexia), and I was like, "I'd love to reread the Wheel of Time!"

Also, well, we don't have to like all the characters we get as companions, right? It would be nice, but I think that makes things more interesting sometimes-having to work with someone you don't like on a personal level, but need for your cause, etc.

I would disagree about "decent," but more to the point, Orsino's involvement isn't known at the time of the decision, so he still counts as such for that purpose.
