Okay. Last crazy theory of the night: He's Ser Gilmore's older brother.

The one thing I definitely don't want is for Cullen to be another Theirin boy. Nope, nope, nope. A lot of people have pointed out physical similarities between the two and I refuse to achnowledge it

 

Maybe being ridiculously good looking is a Fereldan thing?  Seriously though, maybe the whole blonde-chiseled cheekbones+jawline is the Ferelden look or something.

So, the Inquisitor goes to the ball and for whatever reason, Cullen ends up having to come along-- either because he's an advisor and all the advisors have to go because they're the face of the Inquisition, or because they suspect something might be going on behind the scenes and he's coming along to investigate/help keep an eye on the Inquisitor, who has to entertain all the nobles and important people at the ball to gain support for the Inquisition and won't be able to pay as much attention. Either way, he's vaguely uncomfortable because he's out of his element. Cue interesting/awkward banter and conversation! Bonus points for dancing! 

 

And I don't mind.    I'll read anything you've written. I love all of what I've read of your work so far!

OMG. I just had a thought: Cullen being a Chantry boy. What if he's the product of two mages? Or a mage and a Templar? What if he's GREAGOIR'S SON?!

 

Product of two mages would be ok, but frankly I really hope he isn't the son of somebody we know or has some other special background like Alistair did.

 

I would really prefer it if he was just a normal kid with a normal and loving upbrining, who had a strong faith, admired the templars and joined the order because he felt the order was something good.
