And dammit. Now I want to play a mage. I love playing a mage in DA2.  The spells look amazing and do amazing things.  

 

This looks even cooler. And now that I've seen that outfit (Hello pants that don't look stupid. Hello awesome boots. Is..is that a duster?!), *sigh*. 

 

Sera makes archery look really cool too (My plan had been elf archer).  The choices. *sigh*

@lpmc94: @Mike_Laidlaw Sir, is the Energize ability for mages a talent that we need to purchase? Or do all mages have that skill automatically?

There's a good thread on the forums now asking you list the companions you're most excited for and I'd love to hear all your opinions!
Long post so it's in spoiler tags.

My list, (including them all together since they all have similar budgets):

Vivienne - she's just so beautiful and perfect! She's exactly what I want in a LI and a friend and I generally think she's bloody brilliant.
Cullen - been waiting for Cullen for years now. He's definitely one of the most interesting characters in my opinion, and his scar is certainly a big part in my attraction for him. Canon Inquisitor romance for sure.
Josephine - she's adorables and Antivan to boot! If Vivienne is not a LI, Josephine will definitely help heal the hole in my heart.
Sera - once again, she's adorable, and I've had her picked out as my bezzie mate since the survey leak. The only thing worrying me about her is the fear she won't like my Inquisitor.
Cole - I'm very interested in this guy now, which is weird considering I really did not like him throughout Asunder and my first two Inquisitors won't accept his help.
Iron Bull - the fact he's still Qunari makes me giddy, clearly a lot internal struggle here. Only let down by the fact he seems to be another 'shag all the things' bisexual
Cassandra - I'd be a lot more excited for her if I knew I could romance her. But she's still great, and this is still a relatively high spot in my list.
Leliana - she really surprised me in the E3 demo. The personality shift from Origins is really intriguing and I love where her character is going. I also didn't realise how much I loved her until I saw her in the demo.
Solas - now things are looking a lot bleaker. Honestly, the only thing keeping me interested in Solas is the new information that he's apparently Welsh, and I have a MASSIVE thing for Welsh accents. Other than that? Pretty bored by him to be honest.
Dorian - same problem. I'm not really seeing any huge character flaws apart from his idealism, which can still be considered a good thing. I suppose perhaps if he's blindly idealistic, but that would only serve to annoy me further to be honest. Only good thing is his relationship with Vivienne which sounds very much like me and my best friend.
Varric - never cared for him in DA2, don't really care now.
Blackwall - only so low because I think his true interest is all spoiler and hasn't been given away yet. Right now though, he's pretty much a generic paladin-type to me. But I know my opinion of him will no doubt change if Sheryl Chee is writing him.

Cullen: I'm just really psyched to see him in the game, hear him talk, finally to be able to ask him personal questions.

 

IB: Since I heard he is voiced by FPJ, he shot up in my favorite list. He'll be in my party ALL the time (just like Vega) 

 

Blackwall: Even though we don't know that much of him, I keep seeing that concept picture of him with Sera, Inquisitor, Cassandra in the Tavern and I just want to see that happy, carefree side of him so bad now. 

 

Vivienne: She seems to be the Morrigan of DA:I and I'm looking forward to her banter, she'll probably will be my other constant in my party.

 

Varric: Only because I seriously want to know why he is with the Inquisition. In DA2 he is so neutral and didn't seem to care about either side (Mage vs Templar) so why is he back now?  

 

Leliana, Josephine, Dorian, Sera, Cassandra, Solas: Just can't wait to meet them, know more about them.

 

Cole: Honestly, I might change my mind after I play the game, but he is just not interesting at all to me.

"Something, something and then when I woke up the sheets were cold as ice."

 

People who weren't mages before discovering magic? Sandal's prophecy about magic returning? The male voice sounded too old to be just a boy beginning to discover he's a mage.

Maric had a thing for elves, so I'm not sure we can definitively say that Maric is Fiona's child. Odds are good, yes, and I certainly wouldn't mind it, but there is a possibility that Alistiar's mother was really Goldana's mother as he believes, an elven servant at Castle Redcliffe. Because Goldana's mother would have to have been an elf if Goldana was, and both Alistair and Goldana seem to acknowledge that Maric had relations with the woman. A dev saying "Hence, Alistair" is not quite the same as a dev saying "Alistair is the child of Maric and Fiona."

 

I am not saying you are wrong. In all probability, you're right. I'm just saying that the part you quoted (can't watch the video because I'm at work) does not prove the case as absolute confirmation.

Goldana isn't an elf and I don't think it was stated anywhere that his mother was an elven servant, just a servant girl.   Alistair's story of his mother fits with what Fiona told Maric to let Alistair believe.

Maric only had 2 elven lovers as far as we know and Fiona was only a one/or 2 off thing. So I think the odds on him being her son is pretty high.

Altho Goldanna wouldn't be an elf if her mom was one, agree, I find that story unlikely. Given that we know of three of Maric's lovers for sure and only two of them were elves (and one just a one night stand), I'm not sure I would characterize him as 'having a thing for elves.' He always seems to get a bad rap for just having a sex life.

The Fiona mom thing seems pretty likely to me. Fiona's baby was born in Alistair's confirmed birth year, so seems Maric really would've had to hustle after the events of the Calling to knock up some other person accidentally to have a baby born at the exact same time. Occam's razor says Alustair was Fiona's.

Agreed. I no longer have any idea who they might be, however. Was pretty confident about Solas and the Iron Bull, but. [TOSSES UP HANDS] Who knows anymore?
