Admittedly if he's too special snowflake, I'll lose some interest in him. Seeing his story is focused on what happens AFTER he joins the Templars, I kind of hope he's from a normal as dirt family that had no issues whatsoever. Just so there's more emphasis on his growth/what he's been through as an adult than on where he came from.
If his story gets TOO brutal, he runs the risk of being Gary Stu'd something fierce.
That's a big worry of mine too. Personally, I quite like the idea that he was just a boy with dreams of knighthood, which would explain the naive, callow boy we saw at the beginning of Origins. Proud to be a Templar, proud of the ideals of the Order, but perhaps a little too idealistic.
