Admittedly if he's too special snowflake, I'll lose some interest in him. Seeing his story is focused on what happens AFTER he joins the Templars, I kind of hope he's from a normal as dirt family that had no issues whatsoever. Just so there's more emphasis on his growth/what he's been through as an adult than on where he came from. 
 
If his story gets TOO brutal, he runs the risk of being Gary Stu'd something fierce.

That's a big worry of mine too. Personally, I quite like the idea that he was just a boy with dreams of knighthood, which would explain the naive, callow boy we saw at the beginning of Origins. Proud to be a Templar, proud of the ideals of the Order, but perhaps a little too idealistic.

I will be a little sad if the Inquisitor-- at least the human Inquisitor-- isn't Ferelden. I just need Ferelden in my life. I want the option to make fun of accents like Hawke did in MotA. I will miss Hawke so much. So, so much.

That's a very good point! I guess too much angst would also take away from the hell he experienced within the Templar Order.

Wow, I haven't noticed that before. That is one big ass lion. But it wouldn't rule out the possibility that Cullen's lion helmet has some symbolic meaning as well. What I posted earlier fits too well with his personal background IMHO.

For the first time ever I might have to have more than one canon, because I love Cullen, Dorian, Josephine, Cassandra, Sera and their potential as LIs and I love ALL the characters in general, so which ever others end up LIs I'm sure I'll want to see their stories and just...

Oh my go I know right? I love Carver! I was telling @anarchy the other day that she had to be nice to him because it is a way better sibling arc than you will ever get with Bethany. And it also helps that he is very easy on the eyes   

 

So will I. I have never played a male protagonist before but I would rather have Josephine with a Male Qunari than anything else    Then there is Sera and IB for me and of course Cullen. I have never been interested in romancing more than one NPC.........untill now *gives Fernis' smolder look*

I agree,this sort of background is risky and difficult to handle without turning a character into a mary-sue/gary-stue.Unless it's handled really well.

 

Seems I missed Eric's come back and some interesting dialogue theories about Cullen's past.

Personally I'd like to see some plot-twists about him,because I like to be surprised by character's whether it concerns their background stories or their evolution arcs.Cullen so far is the type of character that surprises me with his evolution arc,although admittedly I wouldn't like him to surprise me so much,to the point that he turns out to be a complete different character,from what we've seen so far.
I'm expecting for some things to turn out differently than what I expected,now that they elaborate on him and his background and I'm really excited about how they'll handle his backstory,what I want is for him to be "recognizable".

Personally, I just hope it's something to do with the Chant and the Inquisitor just stumbles upon him in the Chantry or something. Not at a funeral or anything for us or anyone else, just something for himself and our characters happens to be in the right place at the right time. 

 

...I might just want to save myself from second hand embarrassment, though.
