See, on the one hand I kinda wanna see Cullen in Leliana's place in that quest. I wanna see what his reaction is, how he handles it and what his reaction to seeing the Inquisitor (especially if you're pursuing a romance with him) is like. But on the other hand, I'm concerned that it would undo some of the progress he's made into not judging mages so heavily.

In theory it shouldn't make too much of a difference because he's seen both sides of the coin. He knows some mages are corrupt and dangerous, in the same way that some non-mages are corrupt and dangerous, but it's still a concern. Mind you, it sounds like the result of that quest was down to poor planning on the Inquisitor's part, so that torture scene might not even happen if we go in there prepared.

Ooh maybe it does have to do with our resources when we attempt that. Like if we don't have enough keeps set to that advisers specialty then they get captured. Story wise, I would like to see how much Cullen has grown, but my heart just can't imagine him strung up like Leilana. It starts pounding and screaming NO NO NO. So I probably wouldn't have the cojones to even attempt it. I am a sissy even if there would be a sweet romance moment when you rescued him.

I'm kind of having a feeling that Cullen -mentally wise- maybe put a lot of what happened to him at Kinloch, past him. I think he may actually be quite mentally strong and be able to handle a situation like this because there is really nothing left that will surprise him anymore. Iron Bulls story is heavy laced with PTSD, so I was thinking that maybe we won't have to worry about Cullen so much. I can't see them doing the PTSD for two NPCs. *shrugs* I guess I'm just really confident in his ability to just do what needs to be done.

I know they said he's still processing what happened to the Order and him leaving it etc, so there's probably still a little angst left there from that. As for his torture thing in DA:O, if he's still suffering with it then it'll probably the tail-end of it, like he's come to terms with everything that happened back then but occasionally he'll have the odd nightmare or whatever.

That's an interesting thought. Perhaps talking him down would indeed persuade him to help us instead of attacking. I wanna know where that portal leads? Does it take us into the Fade? Will it spit us out somewhere else in Thedas? Take us back in time??

I am super duper curious about it! And the game and plot in general, of course.

But this! This damn demo has made me more curious than anything I've heard as of yet-- I mean, I was always curious about the characters and plot, but Alexius, this Elder One, the portal, what all those hints of something mean...

*crabby hands* I want it.

I wonder if the option to not send in any of the advisors is there? Like, perhaps we could just say: "no, it's too dangerous to send any of you ahead. Let me deal with this."

All those eyes on the wall a creepin' me out, man.

Personally, I'm more curious about whether or not we can talk Alexius down. That amulet, after all, seems to be plot relevant... at least when it comes to this part of the plot, and I imagine Alexius and Dorian, together, can do what has to be done in far less time than the hour Dorian needs, which could save Iron Bull, Sera and Leliana/whoever is there in her place if it works out like that?

Well, we can leave Leliana to rot in the dungeon, apparently :) I hope that we can avoid sending her there at all. I have a feeling that no matter who we will side with, the Big Bad (Elder One?) will use the other party against us. For example - we side with the mages, Big Bad corrupts the templars and throws them at us; we side with the templars - the Big Bad uses the mages to make our life difficult. Because as it was hinted in the interviews - we suspect that someone is pulling the strings, urging the nations and factions to turn on each other. And if our enemy has such power, they will probably use it to make our life worse no matter who we side with.

I'm going to send him regardless of what they do to him if there's even a chance he'll do a version of Leliana's chant thing because of all the AWESOME.   :D

OK, really I'll reload if it's too horrible and have another advisor tortured instead.....I'm not inhumane.   ;)

Any Inquisitor who would leave Leliana (or anyone) to rot in that torture chamber is not clean enough to spit on. D8

(Either that or they forgot a rogue and there's no other option for breaking the door. Oops.)

Haha that's pretty much my stance on it. I will send him into any situation I think it would best for him to take care but if it ends up being horrible for him I'm gonna be clicking that reload button.

Well he keeps saying over and over basically they're all doomed and obviously isn't very happy about what's happened.  So maybe there is an option somehow to get him on your side enough to confront the 'Elder (incredibly creepy) one.  I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't a black and white killing fest.

How could the Iron Bull not be able to break that door down? He's the Brute Squad for Maker's sake

He says that he tried to undo it several times, so whatever he done obviously got out of control. The leaders of the rebel mage faction are supposed to be in Redcliffe castle, right? What if he was one of the leaders and he just took it too far?

I am really, really hoping it's not a black and white killing fest/boss battle after boss battle. I would LOVE some 'bad guys' that don't seem like bad guys from certain angles. Make my decisions difficult, Bioware! Make me fret! Make my poor Inquisitor feel completely torn!

I'm also curious about that option that says "we can still help him" when comforting Dorian about Alexius after we killed him. I mean, how do you help a dead guy, unless you bring him back to life with necromancy, lol!

Could well be Lola and Diregun.  I'm trying to remember but I think the responses the devs chose were all pretty confrontational.  They wouldn't have wanted to give too much away in the demo and a big fight showcases more of their effects and combat.

He was expressing a lot of regret for someone who's completely lost to reason.  He seemed more resigned to the conflict than enjoying it.  I definitely think there's more to the story to be revealed here particularly if he's a big Dorian background story point.

"Bones for Vix'thra, blood for the elders" :P

I'll send anybody in who volunteers to do it. No volunteers? Then the irreplaceable person with the glowing hand has to do it.

I hope there's an option to talk Alexius down, though. It's understandable that Lels is angry, but slitting the throat of his son pretty much the first thing you do is too aggressive an approach for my taste.

I wonder if they'd taken the option to tell Leliana to straight out let him go if she still would have gone all crazy on Felix

Maybe but I'm pretty sure that if we brought him back Leliana would just kill him again.   :P

Yeah, I suspect the others option would give story content away and they likely wanted to jump it straight into the combat too.

That's what I've been hoping for ages now! I always wanted for say the 'good' Templars to be pushed into the Red Templars or something if we're a particularly pro-mage Inquisitor. That way, there's more sympathy for them because we forced them to turn to red lyrium in some respects, rather than they all just be like Cerberus goons from the start. And now it looks like something like that is going to happen!

I'm not sure you can just recover from PTSD like that. I think Kirrahe once wrote a very interesting post about that, and I consider him an expert in that area, which kind of made me think Cullen shouldn't be ok with romancing a mage after what happened to him. It's quite possible that putting Cullen in a pink bubble again will bring back everything, and he will go back to that poor tortured guy from Origins. In addition to that I just don't want Cullen to get hurt :) I mean, I don't care about Leliana. At all. But seeing her in that dungeon made me feel really bad for her, and I realised I will try to prevent that, because I don't want my character's friends and colleagues to suffer like that. Now imagine Cullen in her place? That would be really heartbreaking. Maybe it would end the romance too. But worst of all is that it would put Cullen into the same situation that nearly destroyed him before.

Given how Dorian reacted to Felix, I can't see him being pleased with necromancing Alexius.
