Maybe! I'm not about to say it doesn't have a mundane explanation, of course.
It sounds like, at the very least, there might be some kind of possible travelling through that rift.
I thought the same. Sounded as if Leliana was referring to the rift with her lines: "An hour? That's impossible. You must go now" and that the Inquisitor should travel through the rift. I'm very curious about this. I just hope that the rift doesn't lead to the fade because there are so many other places that could be explored. Ah. All those possibilities *g*.
I'm kind of having a feeling that Cullen -mentally wise- maybe put a lot of what happened to him at Kinloch, past him. I think he may actually be quite mentally strong and be able to handle a situation like this because there is really nothing left that will surprise him anymore. Iron Bulls story is heavy laced with PTSD, so I was thinking that maybe we won't have to worry about Cullen so much. I can't see them doing the PTSD for two NPCs. *shrugs* I guess I'm just really confident in his ability to just do what needs to be done.
I'm not sure you can just recover from PTSD like that. I think Kirrahe once wrote a very interesting post about that, and I consider him an expert in that area, which kind of made me think Cullen shouldn't be ok with romancing a mage after what happened to him. It's quite possible that putting Cullen in a pink bubble again will bring back everything, and he will go back to that poor tortured guy from Origins. In addition to that I just don't want Cullen to get hurt
I mean, I don't care about Leliana. At all. But seeing her in that dungeon made me feel really bad for her, and I realised I will try to prevent that, because I don't want my character's friends and colleagues to suffer like that. Now imagine Cullen in her place? That would be really heartbreaking. Maybe it would end the romance too. But worst of all is that it would put Cullen into the same situation that nearly destroyed him before.
I agree with Gala about the PTSD. I don't think you can put it behind you just like that. Even if you take into consideration that three years have past between DA 2 and DAI and even more years between DAO and DAI, the memory is still there. That doesn't mean that Cullen can't have changed. I think he learned how to deal with his job and how to master his current life situation. It's not so uncommen to suppress bad memories and maybe he did exactly that to cope with everything. I would even be a bit disappointed if his torture won't be addressed at all in DAI because it would smell a lot like "retconning". That doesn't mean that Cullen should completely lose it but if he ended up tortured by mages again... well, his relationship with the Inquisitor might be much more damaged than Leliana's.
That being said, the Inquisitor hasn't seen the E3 demo and can't know what will happen
. Personally, I avoid meta gaming and will make my decisions based on the facts that the main character has. If Cullen seems like the right guy for the Redcliff mission, I wouldn't put him in a (proverbial) bubble and sent him in. Of course, that depends on how much he reveals about his past and how my Inquisitor judges his character.
I am not even sure if Cullen would like it to be spared. If he knew the Inquisitor would rather send Leliana or Josephine because of his PTSD, he might take terrible offence in that.
