There are 2... err, strings (?) that seem to hold the furry collar in place. And 2 straps that either attach his gorget to his breastplate (he wears his gorget over his breastplate, probably for the same reasons American superheroes wear their briefs over their pants?), or these straps prevent his... err, tunic? Red curtain thing? That stuff he wears over the breastplate - from flying into his face when he fights. His armor is shockingly impractical, which strangely contradicts with the statement that he's a practical man

Hmm, I think the straps go underneath the red...jacket-thing, so probably to attach the two bits together.  Oh dear, it looks so stylish, but it confuses me

It's not always about practicality. His armor is very distinctive, which would have an advantage on the battlefield of encouraging morale. If you can see your leader, recognize him instantly, and see him fighting beside you...man, that's some heady stuff, right there. Encourages loyalty, comraderie, and the love of your soldiers.

Well, it definitely motivates me  :P

I'm sure it would be fine to take the time off, just explain that you have a world to save and that your people need you.
This is the first game I've ever pre ordered and I have sadly booked time of as well. The looks I got when I explained that I "wasn't going anywhere nice".

HAHAHA if I had my old boss I would but my current one... well I can't incriminate myself (I have been caught out before on my LJ & it was a sh!t storm afterwards).

I... er... don't *cough* feel... well....

That's what I mean. It's just a theory but it looks like he may have removed the sword of mercy insignia from the breastplate, in The Masked Empire novel the warriors were always removing the insignia from their breastplates for various reasons, which I think is what Cullen has done to his.

However, looking at the discoloration up close it seems to be in the pattern of the Inquisition symbol... meh, I dunno.

You mean he cut a piece of armor off and attached another one with no templar sword on it? I don't know. Would be cheaper and easier to just get a new breastplate :)

That thing Gaspard did in TME probably comes from the lack of understanding how the armor works. I assumed he just changed the surcoat. :) That's that coat thing Cassandra wears on DAI screenshots. And that's why I will marry her - she knows how to dress for a battle

Armor can be both distinctive and practical. Armor must serve a purpose. If it doesn't - it's a bad armor :) I just can't imagine Cullen staying away from a battle because his armor doesn't do what it should. :)

Ok, I think I'll drop that topic before I annoy you guys. After all, we don't play BioWare games to see believable armor :)

No, I mean literally just took the Insignia off, like unscrewed it or whatever it is they do remove it. I dunno if that's the done thing in real life, but that's what they were doing in the book.

Anyone know if there has been any information as to when we get the advisors? I would think that they going to be available at the start of the game, but I don't know for sure.

I don't think anything's been said specifically about when we'll meet any of the Inquisition members. But close to the start of the game would make the most sense to me.

According to the devs and stuff Leliana and Cassandra recruited Cullen and Josephine in at the start when they were still the fledgling Inquisition, so in theory they'll be there the minute we pop out of the Fade and Cass drags our sorry arse back with her.

See, that discoloration could be from where he took it off... but it also kinda looks like the Inquisition symbol if you zoom right into it.

Yes, they don't do that in real life. They just paint something on their shields, change their surcoat, or their banners. Do something that is cheaper than to pay a master to rework your armor :)

Looks like they will be there from the start. Like our advisors in Awakening. Funny, the Inquisition seems to inherit the most from the Awakening :) Which is a good thing, because I loved it the most :)

It's probably not the Inquisition insignia seeing it just appears to be tarnish. So it definitely could be where he removed the Templar insignia-- though why remove that while keeping gauntlets with the insignia on 'em?

Cullen, pls.

(And damn does Cullen's arm look uncomfortable there.)

I wonder if that image of him raising his sword is from a cutscene/quest? Or if they just positioned him that way specifically for the picture? Seems to be in our Skyhold so maybe he's giving a motivational speech to his troops or something?

If someone does call the Inquisitor a turnip, I want Cole to get really confused.

Anything my Inquisitors do will probably have a fair bit of snark to it, since the lady pressing the buttons can't resist getting a few digs and one-liners in

Apparently. Think it was introduced in TME. Of course, I find that even more insulting.

Inquisitor: "Cole... why are there turnips in the fireplace?"

Cole: "... I thought you'd like them?"

Inquisitor: "Maker, what on earth gave you that idea?"

Cole: *Shrugs* "Well, everyone always calls you a turnip, so I thought maybe they were your favourite flower"

Inquisitor: *Laughs* "Turnips aren't flowers, Cole... c'mere you crazy kid!" *Ruffles his hair*

I feel Cole might end up taking up a permanent companion slot, which is a potential problem because I like everyone-- and leaving Varric! Gasp! How could I! And I need a tank and... and... and...!
