Denny and Cole do seem to have a few things in common, don't they? Although instead of a spirit, my friend had a theory that Denny is a Promethean from World of Darkness (artificial semi-humans built from human corpses), and all evidence seems to bear that out.

I feel Cole might end up taking up a permanent companion slot, which is a potential problem because I like everyone-- and leaving Varric! Gasp! How could I! And I need a tank and... and... and...! 

I want to have 12 companion slots, lol. And bring the advisors along too! Ah well, at least it's better than Baldur's Gate, where we could have only 5 companions. I never knew who to choose! At least now we can have them all at our base, and chat with them, and possibly hug some?

Well, to elaborate, they still look completely human due to a magical disguise, but they don't quite understand humans or how they interact. They also tend to have imbalanced emotions due to the alchemical humours used in their construction; my personal belief is that Denny is one of the Galateids with an overabundance of sanguine humours.

 

They also screw with peoples' minds in various ways when they hang around people for too long, and that effect might have caused at least some of the random idiocy in the movie.
