Perhaps not.
It feels just a tiny bit creepy to me. At least those who wanted to romance Cole would presumably be interested in seeing him as something of an equal.

Probably. Sorry, I'm on edge regarding Vivienne and LI ratios, and not feeling playful. So I may have missed that.
CULLEN: [PINCHES BROW] Again, please, explain why you were putting the turnips into the fireplaces?
INQUISITOR: [TRYING NOT TO SMILE]
COLE: Well, some of the soldiers were saying it's so cold here that even the turnips were freezing...
INQUISITOR: [PUTS HAND OVER MOUTH]
CULLEN: [CLOSES EYES BRIEFLY] And?
COLE: [SHRUGS] Well, the fireplaces are warm, so, I thought I could... thaw them out.
INQUISITOR: [SMILING] I think the turnips will be okay. They can take the cold better than most.
COLE: I just wanted to help.
CULLEN: [LOOKS AT THE INQUISITOR]
INQUISITOR: [RAISES EYEBROW POINTEDLY]
CULLEN: [SIGHS] I have some letters that I... would like assistance in delivering... if you're interested, Cole.
COLE: [BRIGHTLY] Of course!
You're going to laugh at me, but I don't get the turnips reference.

Nah, it's okay. Hopefully that'll get settled by the end of today. For the better. (Fingers crossed for bisexual Vivienne LI.)

Mr. Weekes mentioned Cole putting turnips in the fireplace. ![]()
(It was turnips, right?)

'Turnip' seems to be a disparaging term that Orlesians use for Fereldens. In regards to Cole, it comes from his writer's interview:
[PW]: Cole remains a work in progress, yes. Anyone who allows him to join the Inquisition (and because there are people whose response to him in Asunder was, "Demon? LOL NOPE," allowing him to join is optional) is going to hear about some weird things happening, with no one quite sure who put all those turnips in the fireplace or why the battlements are covered with loaves of bread.
You're going to laugh at me, but I don't get the turnips reference.
Its what Orlesians call Fereldens as an insult.
Edit:
'd
Thanks, that clears things up a bit. LOL
When did Orlesians call Fereldans turnips? Is that in WoT?
Edit: I bet the Maker turned away from the mankind because of how unimaginative the Orlesians are!

Duke Prosper did in MotA, and I think a few other Orlesians did so as well. (The one who attacks you during the hunt, I think.)

Ah, I see. I need to get drunk some day, and try to play that again ![]()
Wow that's new. Turnips? I'd imagine something more resentful like kirkwalls "dog lord"
I love it because it's so unexpectedly bizarre. Like, turnip? Really?
Turnips are delicious.

Turnips are delicious.
But they're also round, dull, and very white.

I like Cole but I don't want to romance him, because he does seem somewhat child-like to me. It weirds me out to even think about him possibly being an LI. I can't sex up what I see as a child-like character and it's hard for me to understand those who do. I just don't get it. But maybe I'll feel differently once DA:I is released.

Spoiler'd because the images are HUGE.
This may have already been posted here (I don't think it has?), but you can have it again because it is awesome ![]()

I'm assuming it's a shout out to the American saying that refers to a rural person (& perhaps naive and uncultured) as having just "fell off a turnip truck." It's degrading, but in a humorous way. It's very mild. As someone who grew up in rural America, I have never been offended by it. But I am not offended by much...in reference to myself, anyway. ![]()

I thought it was cute.
But Xil's comment highlights something for me regarding Cole. There may be those who feel he is somewhat child-like and those who don't. For those who do, the idea that someone would want to romance someone who they perceive to be a child-like character may cause them to feel uncomfortable. Usually mixing sexuality and a child-like personality can provoke a pretty strong reaction in people but the disconnect between one party seeing Cole one way and another seeing him differently creates an inherent inability to relate to one another but the nature of what some might see as an exploitative relationship makes it impossible for them to accept that some people will just like what they like and move on. It might be part of the tensions surrounding Cole here on the forums. Maybe...? It's just a hypothesis I was pursuing for a moment.

I know... I'm just sort of sensitive to criticisms like this because Merrill's also gotten a lot of it.

Which confuses me to no end. Some of what she said was definite teasing/being playful, while other things she said was just culture shock. ![]()

I know. I try to be kind about my opinions or I keep them to myself. I know my personal feelings about a character aren't the law and everyone's entitled to do as they wish. It doesn't make someone a bad person to have a different idea of what makes a character child-like to them. Merrill does strike a little too close to having a child-like personality, to me, at times. But it was more in her mannerisms than in her cognitive reasoning, to me. In other words, it was superficial. Cole strikes me as truly not having a full understanding of things and being child-like in his higher thinking processes - he seems to see his own actions in a way that is disconnected from the full impact they have. For me, he seems to need guidance like I would give to my own children. So I just don't see him in a sexual way at all.
I know you've defended Merrill and argue against others who feel she is child-like and what I've taken from those exchanges is that some people feel it's their duty to make you feel like you're being a pedophile or something, simply for having a different opinion of Merrill than they have. Which is why I think people need to just stop and remember that not everyone sees things the same way and just let it go. It's really kind of sh!tty to be so hellbent on making someone feel like a bad person for having a different view. Merrill is of age. Cole is of age. I mean, such internet police would really do better to troll tumblr and the shota tag I was most unfortunate to search up because that's also the name of a character from Legend of The Seeker. *shudders*
Okay, I haven't laughed this hard in FOREVER.
LMAO!
That's priceless!
