Right now I'm thinking Varric and Vivienne. I was so sure Solas would be a LI because of his VA but Varric just screams "story race gate." And also "late announcement."

But still, Grey Warden, almost certainly nearing his Calling...wasted romance potential. Unless it's like a Samara thing. But that's how I'd want the romance to be anyway!

I'm not saying he's a LI (if anything, I think he has bigger chances then Solas now) .
I don't care who the last male one (assuming Vivienne is one). I'm fine with everyone.

I could see Cullen as being race gated in the sense that he is religious. Dwarves. Elves and Quanari dont follow the Chantry so for a long term, serious relationship, he may well prefer sopmepone who shares his spiritual perspectives. He doesnt seem to me to e the tyoe of man who would engage in a sexual relationship with any female who showed an interest, so again, I would not be surprized.

I would think that the writers will determine race gating not on the preferences of fans, but on what makes sense given the character.

 

That would be a ideological reason rather than a race reason. Dwarves, Elves, and Quanari can still believe in the Maker and some, Dwarves and Elves that is, were shown to in DA:O. I can see him being class gated rather than race. A mage coming on to him could bring up some unpleasant memories although the drama would be so good.

I think the devs have said we don't have to be religious... which implies that we have the option TO be religious. So Cullen not liking you because you're "not" religious can't happen in this game since we can choose to be religious.

 

I am thinking race-gating has to be related to fear/prejudice and trauma. The whole "I'm just not attracted to that race" doesn't fly for me. If you step outside your comfort box, you can be attracted to any race, and the "races" of Thedas are all still basically human. 

 

So it would have to be like, Character X was tortured by qunari soldiers / human magisters / a clan of wild Dalish / crazy dwarves (I dunno lol) and that's why they just can never feel comfortable with someone of that race.

This is the reason why I can also see Blackwall as a LI.
For some reason the characters they haven't reveal yet are more ambiguous for lack of a better word,in that department,while the others apart from Cullen and Josephine because of their npc status,were more obvious.

I am so happy Iron bull is a romance, I really want him for my femQunari, couldn't see her with anybody else.  Lol but I am so tempted to make a dwarf for him too to see how that goes.

I hope it isn't plain ol' racism race gating them. This is a pretty big worry in the Vivienne thread, but I just don't see it for her myself. Probably just blinded by love though.

So, thoughts.

 

I'm starting to warm to the idea that Solas is gated against dwarves because they can't dream. It makes sense for his character, and won't make him look like a complete *jerkface.

 

My problem is that I can't think of second character to have a reason like this. And by character I mean a female character, in order to get Vivienne on the love boat. I mean, I think Vivienne is likely the other gated LI because of her status concerns, but that makes her look like an *jerkface. (Although I understand myself.)

 

Anyone have an idea?

Read a theory Solas could be race gated against dwarves since they can't dream. Vashoth Inquisitors too if you believe the Qunari.

Sera is a rogue,which means that the only thing missing is a mage romance option.
Which is either Vivienne or Solas.
This assuming that classes play a role in how romances are distributed.

Is it just race gated or class gated...She could be just for mages but then that cuts an awful out.

Could be Varric, didn't he say he wasn't into humans? I know he was off limits because of Bianca before, but 10+ years is a long time, especially if he has no contact with her. But I am thinking more Solas, only one elf romance and for females only? That gives male characters mainly human LI's and no elves...I can't see that happening.

Well the Fade is a massive part of Solas' life. And if I were him, I'd want to share it with my partner. Since dwarves and maybe qunari can't, share that, I think I would be pretty lonely to be honest.

It's such a vital part of his character, though. I could understand why he'd feel that was something he couldn't get over. Perhaps he wants to share his view of the fade with a lover.

 

Honestly, it's one of the few race-gating reasons that makes sense to me. Also, I just really like Solas. Like, lots.

It's just too hard to pick for me. They have left the remaining two LI's till last on purpose!

 

Varric being an LI would give us our first romance-able dwarf ever.

Solas would give us a male elf and a mage

Vivenne would even out the male/female LI ratio and give us a mage

 

So I think it is between these three and Blackwall is out.

I'm not saying I don't want him to be a romance; the race-gated LIs could have already been revealed *shrugs* I guess I'm just a romantic. The thought of Solas rejecting the love of his life just because they can't access the Fade is just sad.
