It must just be the DA fandom on Tumblr. All my experiences on Tumblr have been super fun and welcoming to all. I'm mostly there for the anime fandoms, though.

In my mind tumblr's DA fandom is simply the same as ours except they're not moderated, and not exposed as much to the Devs as we are. There's plenty of fans there who're fantastic, and we've got to give them props for all the art and comics and gifs they make that we use.

Probably is. Idk why the DA fandom seems to be so volatile. I always expected it to be such an open and honest group of people. O.o

 

Yeah... now that you mention it, the worst experience I had on tumblr was with a girl who was ranting about Fenris being dark-skinned and also a slave. I really tried to engage her in an interesting and civil discussion but it was like talking to a constantly exploding bomb in human form.

I deleted my tumblr blog because of things like that. At first I really enjoyed it, but people started getting outright nasty. The problem was, I was auto-following anyone who followed me...big mistake. I think I would have been fine if I had been more careful. Some people just like drama I think.

 

I actually went to tumblr from BSN, because the fandom here became intolerable to anyone who actually enjoyed DA2 despite it's faults. Now it seems as those people all went to tumblr and left BSN lol. I do miss the fun side of tumblr though.

Anyway, I was wondering what you guys think about Cullen's past. Are there any prevailing theories? The youngest of a noble family, not able to inherit and needed to find a suitable profession? A peasant who was accepted into the order for his fighting skill? A devout young man from a decent family who just really, really wanted to be a Templar?

 

I've been curious before, but the size of your thread scares me.

Anyway, I was wondering what you guys think about Cullen's past. Are there any prevailing theories? The youngest of a noble family, not able to inherit and needed to find a suitable profession? A peasant who was accepted into the order for his fighting skill? A devout young man from a decent family who just really, really wanted to be a Templar?

 

I've been curious before, but the size of your thread scares me.

 

I think we all have our own head-cannons on what we would like his childhood to of been like. I personally like the idea of him being some farm boy that wanted more from life than being stuck where he currently was for the rest of his life and had a misguided ideal of the Templar Order. Like he wanted to be some gallant noble knight that protects mages and people alike and sadly it just wasn't like that. Though now that it has been confirmed that he has a last name, my dreams of him having a nice simple childhood may be blown out of the water. What ever his past is I hope it was a pleasant one--after all the crap he has been though I think he deserves it. 

 

And don't be scared of how fast the thread moves, stay with us.....*ties you down to a chair*......sorry, was that creepy?

Actually I am friends with the Dragon Age Confessions Mods and they had to take the weekend off because of the crap they received when it was announced Cullen would be straight.

 

She has every form of submission shut down but asked me to monitor the blog when confessions post.

 

She received a ton of hate hoping Cullen would be killed off since he is not Bi...She got submissions saying all straight people should die and other assorted hate. They decided to take the weekend off.

 

She has a very strict policy about posting any sort of hate toward the any of the fandoms. Its never allowed. 

 

It finally got to them.

 

Tumblr needs a feature to ban people because blocking is not enough.  But yes there is a very volatile sect of the fandom that can go overboard when they dont get what they want.

But seriously, I like the idea that he was a simple farmboy, too. It's kind of an everyman background that you don't see with many DA characters. The closest we got was Alistair, and he turned out to be a bastard prince.

Tumblr is just scary. I had a blog there for a while and it was fun but... when I tried to participate? It stopped being fun. And then there's the questionable content... So I left and haven't looked back.

So far, there are lot of personal theories and wishes for what kind of backstory Cullen can have. There's no consensus about it - not even close! I like to imagine he was a street urchin who got into trouble and was made to work at the Chantry for a summer to make restitution for his wrongdoing. His time in the grand shiny cathedral and the noble knights stationed there hooked him into wanting to stay so he joined the Templar Order's "prep program" or whatever to become a knight. But he never forgot how to pick locks and pockets...

 

See? It's all very subjective around here. We'll know for sure in a couple of months though.

They have 12,000 Followers and work their assess off to maintain it. They even had a giveaway.    They delete all the racists and homophobic submission but this was the first time they recieved heterosexual hate.

 

These people weren't even anonymous. They were Tumblr regulars. 

 

I agree there are some really troubled people out there.
