I used to think it was black fox, but it was before I knew that it was supposed to be lion's mane. Can't see why it can't be a real lion's mane Surely they have lions somewhere in Thedas!

I hadn't thought about a lion at first, because they don't live where I live, and we don't hunt them for fur. But I imagine someone could kill a couple of lions to make a badass set of armor like Cullen's.

I can't believe I didn't think about it before, but what about sheep? Has that been said? Icelandic sheep can have black fur and it is long.

Yes, it has very long hairs, much longer than any wild canine I know, and the texture looks like a real lion's mane.

I don't think it would be a problem to dye fur in a world where they have magic! Besides, some lions have very dark manes. I think lionesses think they are sexier? Anyway, looks like Cullen fought a lion, and killed it. Explains his armor, explains his scar, explains why he's our Alexander the Great

I have a winter coat made of it, it's nothing like Cullen's fur It's quite soft. It looks like what Solas wears sometimes. Which suits him well enough. It's what peasants wear, lol. Not suitable for a knight

Sheeps wool makes me itch horribly my nan took up spinning and knitting a few years ago (she's like a storybook grandma) and she keeps sending me homemade knitwear. I almost never layer, and the itching is dreadful so I have a compartment in my wardrobe where jumpers go to be pulled out if she visits...

Lion's mane is also possible,my only doubt however is that if it was indeed the case,I don't see a reason for him to dye it black.
I assume northern Thedas might have lions.

I only buy things made of Merino Wool which is very soft but more expensive. But I don't itch when I wear it so it's worth it
