I think gating has a tendency to result in a "this kind of person likes A and that kind of person likes B." For example straight men tend to get the "no-nonsense, prickly, job-focused" type (aka Ice Queen). Miranda, Cass, Morrigan. I'd love one of those because that's how I'd like to play my Warden, Shep, or Inquisitor. I tend to get character types that I don't like when I play as a woman because the devs seem to think mine's a male fantasy. At least if it's ungated, I can play f/f. Not that I wouldn't mind a straight man who believes in both "greater good" and not visiting every tavern in Thedas.

 

Yeah, I've noticed this too, actually, though I don't think the devs choose who will be what kind of romance based on that stereotype. Thankfully Josephine and Sera seem like two completely different characters, so there's differences there. Same with Cassandra and Josephine, Cullen and Iron Bull, Iron Bull and Dorian... and whoever the race-gated romances will be are different again.

Well, sort of, anyway...

 

It seems like the romances will have custom animations this time, depending on race, so how do you imagine the romance scene will go with Cullen with the different races? Fun exercise time; come up with scenarios!

With a human: boring kissing.

With an elf: spiderman kissing.

With a dwarf: lady Inquisitor makes a random companion to go down on all fours, and uses them as a ladder to reach Cullen's face for a kiss.

With a qunari: lady Inquisitor grabs Cullen, throws him across her shoulder, and heads for the bedroom

I'm hoping Cullen will be "the one" so to speak. I've kind of accepted I'll be bouncing between the two advisors on my f!Inquisitor playthroughs. So Cullen might get two playthroughs after all.

Yes, in general (Noble, dalish, Vashoth and surface dwarf). I want more info on those.
Plus, the mage one isn't explained yet, though I think he/she likely was a former Circle mage.

It was kind of explained in Ladyinsanity's report about the romances. The game checks what you did: did you flirt, did you make your intentions clear, etc.

I think in BG there was no approval, it was more about the options you pick. For example, you have 5 options, 2 end the romance, 2 continue the relationship, one is a neutral "investigating" option.

I hope they don't give us too detailed background since I have already done some for my own inquisitors. I wouldn't want to change them too much

 

I also wonder if qunari mage is supposed to be circle mage as well? I think every elf is Dalish this time around no matter of class. Maybe qunari mage will be apostate?

Hmm, so I'm guessing since the Qunari origin is Vashoth, a Qunari mage would be sent to the circle as well?  THey must've had a lot of abuse from the Andrastians in there, even if they're one themself! Hmm, I think a Qunari mage will be my second PT.  Exciting times!

Well that's what happens when all mages join the Circle. They're disinherited and banned from gaining political power in the traditional sense. It's the law. Unless you mean the rest of the PC's family resent them for being a mage.

Thanks for clarifying that! That sounds reasonable. I wonder if the mage elf will also be circle or if they just stayed with their clan. 

 

It was said that it won't be a playable background, but each will have a different reason for being there (at the beginning) right? I wonder how that will play out with the Qunari or Dalish elf.
