P.S. There was actually another letter from Cullen. A report to Meredith about Mage Underground.

I apologize if it has been already mentioned before. Just noticed you discuss one letter, but I remembered there were 2 letters from him.

 

"Until now, I have never served anywhere that the populace does not fully cooperate in hunting these rebels." - Soooo, he's served in other places beyond just Kinloch Hold and Kirkwall then?

I love that letter.
 
But I see it more as concern for Aveline, whom he likely respects, than proof of friendship with Hawke. I always felt Hawke and Cullen didn't interact enough "on screen" to have built up a friendship. I think at one point Hawke can say to Cullen that s/he's just "checking in on an old friend." I was like, huh? Since when did Hawke and Cullen become friends? 
 
So here I think Cullen was hearing these ridiculous rumors about Aveline, and not only did he think they were unfounded (and we know Cullen would be against things like rumors and dishonoring an honorable woman) but it also would, as he put it, quite simply be a headache for him if he has to actually DO something about it.
 
So he dumps it all on Hawke, in hopes of averting a crisis lol

Do we know if there was supposed to be more interaction between Hawke and Cullen? I know some of the lines in DAII had to get cut because of the time crunch. It really did seem odd to me as well that Hawke said that. If I remember right isn't that dialog sometime after Cullen brings Bethany to the Circle? So "Old friend" really seems odd in that case! If I remembered right, probably didn't.

That would make sense...My Hawke addressing Cullen as an"old friend" had me a bit confused considering that my first character was extremely pro-mage and opposed the templars at every chance.

Hmm, Greenfell could be a good call! Or... he's just considering his two placements so far to be a lot of experience.

I don't know if it's been discussed already, sorry if it has but I was wondering....If Cullen turns out to be an NPC romance, how will they handle his approval or disapproval to the inq. I know it's not going to be the same as in the other games, but I am sure I saw somewhere it will have a lot to do on how you handle situations. Maybe they have other ways too, but if he isn't going to be in a group with you, how could he form an opinion on you? And would they even implement a completely different approval system for an npc romance.

This is what confuses me and how I don't think an npc romance could possibly work.

 

In other news....I really hope the GW turns out to be Duncan...who somehow manages to escape Ostagar and avoid or hasn't quite reached his calling. Maybe he is close to it pretty early on and has time to make way for Cullen as a companion. I do a lot of reaching lol.

Yeah I suppose that could work, but it would get boring really quick if that's the only kind of interaction we could get.

 

lol yea its more wishful thinking than anything....though having a Larius type character in the group could be fun.
