Patrick Weekes @PatrickWeekes
Have gotten multiple questions about Cole. To clarify: we are very proud of his character arc, but no, he is not a love interest.
Patrick Weekes @PatrickWeekes
This is not an attack on people with developmental disabilities or mental illness implying they are unworthy of love.
Patrick Weekes @PatrickWeekes
Hopefully clear in Cole's arc that he is in place where could not healthily consent to relationship, so making him LI would be problematic.

Sometimes I think people get offended FOR other people without truly understanding what it is that they are getting so offended about. Some people just need to lay on the breaks and let things go unless it is extremely clear that there is an issue. Sometimes the things people make such a big deal about aren't really that big of a deal to those of which the material is directed to/about.
I personally will never understand why so many people jump the gun with a company that is obviously being as respectful as they are able-- yes, people don't always get it right, but there's no need to attack them for that. Instead try to discuss it! There's nothing wrong with conversations starting with "Thanks, Bioware, you're doing a great job and are including us way better than any other company, but..."
It reminds me of the mentallity over at Tumblr -- one part of Tumblr anyway -- where a section of the queer/trans* community have this graphic going around that says 'we don't need CIS allies that get offended when we tell them to go die'. It confuses me to no end. Why... would you tell people who support you to go die?? I mean if they're supporting you the wrong way, why not politely educate them rather than attack them? If they're true allies they'll want to learn.

I love this; very delicate and sweet way of explaining this without insulting any fans.

I think it's weird people are still banging on about a Cole romance.
I understood quite clearly early on that it wasn't going to happen and that his character was going in a different direction than where I'd hoped it would go. It could've been sweet, but romance is just not part of that character's story, and it's best if people try to move on from wanting that.

Yeah, it was explained, simply and plainly, why it would be inappropriate. The only real discussion I think you can glean from this is whether or not David was as clear as he could have been when writing Asunder. In my last reading session, there was a simile he used to describe Cole's frustration or something and it was something like 'like a child with their face pressed up against a window'. And to me, the way it was phrased implied he was older than a child to me.
