We should keep a count. Days gone by without people making a hateful Cullen thread: 0
Someone should draw a calendar
Or even better, a Cullendar
I'm glad you posted first, because I could only think of the other one and was trying to think of appropriate wordingCirclejerk:
“Circle Jerk” is a pejorative slang term referring to a positive feedback loop which occurs when an idea, belief or meme that is already customary within an online community becomes re-iterated and rewarded in a perpetual cycle, giving rise toredundancy, clichés and karma whoring. This phenomenon is typically observed in communities consisting of self-contained forums devoted to specific interests, beliefs or subcultures.
It also means something else quite filthy, but I better not post that one in here!
I tried to have an actual conversation with him and he ignored me so, men. I don't actually care what he says about Cullen after all, he is a fictional character. But he doesn't need to call us --the real people-- obnxious and this thread a "circlejerk"--what does that even mean?
Mm, that was my point. You, especially, are always happy to have civil arguments when it comes to Cullen and they're always really good to lurk around. What's insulting you guys going to achieve? Other than you guys feeling attacked (because you're being attacked) and wanting to defend yourselves.
Oh well, it's probably better they ran off. ![]()
Now I'm wondering what the other one is, I have a curious mind I tell ya........ Oh, no wait, I got it
Naked men in a circle... you can probably guess the rest based off the name! ![]()

If we had 2000+ pages of that sort of thing, I'd be realistically expecting to have earned some money by now
Shhh, don't! The next thing we'll know Eric will have made a batch of them!

Yeah, yeah lol when I actually looked at it I was like "ohhhhhhhh"Naked men in a circle... you can probably guess the rest based off the name!
Naw thanks
It never would have lasted long anyway. The other threads that are about not liking Cullen aren't just "I hate him and his fans are idiots for liking him," they actually raise points about why they don't like him so they can discuss their mutual feelings. That person just wanted every post to say "I hate Cullen."
Honestly, the hate doesn't bother me anymore.
I think people who dislikes him (or any character) that much that they feel the need to make threads about it to attack fans clearly have some sort of issue going on in their lives that needs addressing. I mean, it's one thing being sick of constantly hearing about a character/person all the time (especially if you're not keen on them), I totally get that! Who doesn't like a good bitching session every now and again. BUT needlessly trolling and/or being spiteful/nasty/aggressive about a character and his/her fans is a big indication that they clearly have a few issues within themselves/their lives that need addressing.
Why bother trolling or attacking people? If you're bored go do something constructive instead, and if you're just that much of a foul, horrible individual that you have to attack and insult people to make yourself feel better then it might be an idea to go sort your head out, and start fixing your own problems/issues. Quit hating on the internet, take your balls out of your purse and join the real world.

Just to clarify once again: the purpose of that thread was the exact opposite of attacking Cullen fans. The original first sentence made this very clear; trigger warnings abound that the thread was only meant for dissenters--a place where people like me could blow off some steam. I felt it was appropriate seeing as how this thread is almost entirely positive. I went out of my way to not offend anyone...and yet, here we are now. BioWare's audience has became inredibly soft in recent years; both figuratively and literally.
I miss the days of Baldur's Gate and Knights of the Old Repbulic.

And yet here you are poking the hornets nest with that final sentence.
If you're referring to my post above, I was talking about people who attack/insult fandoms in general. Clearly there was some intent on your part if you feel that my post included you/your thread in the mix.

There's literally nothing to add to such a discussion though.
I hate Cullen. Okay and so? Now what? We can cite reasons why we hate him and plan to leave him out of our playthroughs and that's it. No point in dwelling on it more as I'm sure you'd rather focus on the things you like in a game. (Because games are fun and all)
Keep in mind that the Cullen thread is so big because the other fanthreads had to restart due to their OPs leaving or otherwise. Just like in the Varric thread I like dwelling here and chatting about other things.
Also, keep in mind that this thread is so big because it's treated more like a safe haven. It's a pleasant place to chat about DAI in general, especially considering the rest of the forum is so volatile and poisonous.

I can understand how you might feel that way, but the proof is kind of in the pudding. You directly called people liking Cullen obnoxious. That is insulting Cullen fans. I don't believe anyone was annoyed with you until that point, even though your opening post was a bit snippy. I can count about 2 posts before you called them obnoxious that could maybe be construed as intolerant of your opinion, in fact, there are multiple telling you that you're entitled to it and asking to have a discussion with you on why you feel that way and asking you to come back after you left. All you had to do was say (nicely) "Sorry, I just wanted a place to vent away from Cullen fans. Maybe we can discuss properly another time, in the mean time, if you don't mind, I'm going to complain about how I don't like Cullen here."
Your thread is still active, I'd recommend going back and continuing on, but it's your business.
*edit* Allan's closed it now anyway, and I don't really blame him. *shrug*

You still aren't getting it. There are--as pointed out--many threads debating the validity of Cullen; my thread's purpose was absolutely intended to be negative. Is that really such a bad thing? Where is the rule that says all threads must be positive? I was very straightforward about my intentions and I knew that the thread would likely be a small group of people agreeing with me, if any, but instead everyone from this thread hopped in to tell me how much they like Cullen. Yeah, you see, I already knew that...from the obscene and-honestly kinda-impressive over 2,220 pages this thread has garnered.

Nothing wrong with disliking Cullen and wanting to talk about that. However, it's entirely different thing making a thread to be negative about his/any characters fans, which is exactly what you done.

I said that the love and adulation for him was obnoxious, not that the fans themselves were obnoxious. I never said anything directly bad about his fans (nor would I) and I'm getting quite anonyed that I keep getting accused of that.

If your thread exists to denigrate fans of a particular character, yes it is such a bad thing.
If you have issues with Cullen as a character that you'd like to discuss, feel free to do it. I'd wager you can probably even do it here. But I *loathe* the term "circle-jerk" and if your position contains anything like that, it's not necessary.
I don't care much for romances and as such don't entirely understand/relate to people that love them so much. But I'm not going to talk down about them because they really like something that I don't care for.

I said that the love and agilation for him was obnoxious, not that the fans themselves were obnoxious.
It's very difficult to disassociate the two. If you find the love and adulation of him obnoxious, there's an exceptionally strong implication that "if only those people stopped loving and adulating him things would be better."

I understand that, but intent does matter.
How can we be fans and not love him?
Surely there's an NPC you must like. Why not visit their fanthread...?
