"Have you seen my mother?"
"You're a nice lady. Like mother."
I always send him to the Chantry and then feel terrible when I have to go get his mother's amulet. orz
Yes, my point is that I actually agree with Cullen and kill the mages. My issue with him has nothing to do with his opinions, infact I find them more than agreeable.
It's been a while since I played DA 2 and my memory isn't the best but I don't think that Cullen really wanted to see all of the mages dead.
Ah, I found the video that Lost-in_Anarchy had linked in the "Cullen As The Military Advisor" thread.

That doesn't exist. Like the third X-men movie. (If you're me, anyway.
)
My issue with Cullen is that he was all too happy to go around killing mages until the very last minute when the Champion was threatened and he had a convent change of heart.
And before you tell me that he was just following orders...well, that's what the Nazis used as an excuse in the Nuremberg Trials.
He is an interesting character but I'm not a fan, and I'm not happy that he can't be dismissed.
You're ignoring that he was tortured, watched his friends killed in front of him and then on top of all that was forced to live with the people he originally trusted? Or that leading up to the end of Act 3 he actually mentions that he has doubts regarding Meredith and is one of the few Templars who can potentially defend mages by the end of the game?
It would actually be convenient to let Hawke die after all I mean he has a courtyard full of Templars when he defends the Champion and a super powered Meredith. Hawke is losing during the Mage ending and during the Templar ending we've eliminated anyone who could help us if Cullen didn't say anything.
Also excuse me if I come across a bit heated, don't mean to be. Just trying to reply quickly
All too happy going around killing mages ... *shakes her head* when was he happily doing something like that?
Cullen in DA:O was (let me guess) around 20 years or something. Then the Broken Circle Quest happened where his friends and at this point perhaps a part of his family, gets tortured one after another and then killed and then he tries to resist like - perhaps for months - and you find him there, broken, horrified and angry. Of course he wants all the Mages in the tower to die.
So after this, the Knight-Commander could have send him to somewhere nice and calm but Gregoir sends him to Kirkwall - a stronghold for an ongoing Mage/Templar conflict. And then there is Meredith. Everything Gregoir wasn't - authority, power, justice. I think he adored her probably and of course you would follow someone who you could regard as a role model. Did you return to the Gallows in order to speak to Cullen throughout the Acts? You will see how he changes in this whole time, starting with the first Quest you get. He will start to question Meredith, leading to the showdown of defying her order to annihilate the Circle in Kirkwall and standing up against her. After he let's Hawke go or makes him/her the Vicount (and then dissapearing too xD"), he is the one trying to hold Kirkwall together.
So he has seen the horrors of Mages going rampage and Templars doing not what they are supposed to do. This makes such an interessting base of a character development and growth - which makes you want to know more (and he is one of the most interesting characters right now imho). And no I don't see any fanservice (nothing in this game is fanservice...) in this. I see a character that has been a little bit overlooked in the game.
And sorry, the Nazi argument is a bit too far fetched imo =/ also english is not my mothertongue, so please excuse any mistakes!
edit: and wow I type slow or answers in this thread are happening too fast >_<"

Just got a slight Doctor Who flashback there for no reason
"Are you my mummy?" *shudder*
That is precisely why I love him.
I wonder if I can make a Cullen clone in Guild Wars 2. Something to find out when I get home.

That reminds. In Tomodachi Life, your miis will sometimes ask you to "play with me."
Reminds me of the Shining. Every time. Creepy sh!t. ![]()
The woes I've faced because my favourite character in One Piece is a Marine, and thus against the main-character-pirates.

Villains? Most often I like villains more than good one's but I tend to like grey characters and anti-heroes etc. most (not pure good or evil). My fav comic book character so far is Deadpool ^^

A new character would make the most sense, but personally? Sten.
Like Seneschal Varel? And by that I mean an advisor who is new, not a previous character? I dunno, we don't have context beyond that we are a fledgling organization. While I'm sure someone else could also fulfill Cullen's role I think the same could be said for all of the advisors mentioned so far.
I wouldn't have minded a new character though, but I just like new characters in general lol

Smoker 4 lyfe.
None of the xmen movies exist to me

I've been trying to find one where you have Hawke take the "we do this Meredith's way" option, you should see the face he pulls as they take the mages away.

That was a great episode!
He would definitely have the qualifications but he wouldn't have the knowledge on the Templar/mage war that Cullen has and I don't know if I could really trust him. I'd always be giving him the side-eye -- making sure he's not thinking of taking matters into his own hands.
Oh im sure he would quietly stomp orlais into the dirt whenever you werent looking ![]()
I just think the guy had a damn good understanding of warfare and guerilla tactics. He certainly knew the layout of the land of ferelden well (i bought him sooo many maps!). Also he is excellent at putting people down when they get a bit too full of hot air. And..... i want the excuse too see him wear something hideous for an orlesian ball... it would be like dunking a cat in water.... glorious! ![]()

I was thinking about something like this just yesterday. There weren't a lot of fan artists painting Cullen like some of you did. Now suddenly I see lots of stuff popping up. Instead of being happy, I get into hipster mode and mumble stuff like "where were you 6 month ago you wannabe". Then I snap out of it and thank the maker for the influx of goodies we will get in the years to come. Just spread the love....
This reminds me of those strange requests we sometimes get on deviantart, "Why do you draw so much art of character A? You should draw character B, because I think he/she is much better!" People like what they like, you can't do anything about that, but you can spread your love for your favourite character instead
That'll be another accent/image out of the window
Knowing my luck they'll eventually work their way through to ruin all my favourites eventually
I was kinda disappointed with Rogue's portrayal in the movies, but I can't have everything I want.
Whose your favs Char?

Ahahaha...ha...haaaaaaa.... *sob*
Wolverine. Movie.
That is precisely why I love him.
I suppose, then, you could liken Cullen's popularity to that of Kylie Minogue's character (Astrid Perth) in the Doctor Who Christmas special (Voyage of the Damned). She was in it for all of one episode, but I saw loads of people raging that she should have been a permanent companion.

Oh god, I LOVE DEADPOOL! But I'd be annoyed if he wasn't played by Nolan North.
