It's something I've been wondering about from DA2 to DAI with Cullen. Was he always going to be a big part of DAI and that's why they decided to have him make a change of heart by the end of DA2? Or did that occur after they started making DAI and realised that his story arc would work well for the military advisor etc? Were the advisors always going to be in DAI? Or were they added in when they were given the extra year to work on the game?

I had to go look for reference because I had seem to remember David Gaider saying that he really liked Cullen's arc and that he would like to have him in the next one after DA2. This is just one of the articles I found.

I like how he references having a common thread like R2D2 and C3PO with him. So I would say Cullen was always going to be in the game. It was just a question of how big is role would be. Would he be a companion or would he be something else.

Wow, David Gaider has a really nice voice, btw.

Oh, he's certainly questioned a lot of things and demanded action before, absolutely. But he never physically acted on it himself, not until the end... Perhaps that was due to the ideal that his superiors would make the right decisions, especially with Meredith as he defended her right up until he could no longer ignore her corruption, he obviously wanted to believe that she was doing the right thing even if he knew deep down that she wasn't (which he makes evident). I think maybe by the end of DA2 he realised that if you want something done properly then you need to do it yourself and lead by example.

Well, he couldn't do much himself. He was always serving under somebody, and had to obey. But he has always been very initiative. If he can do something without Meredith's approval in DAII - he does it. If he wants to do something he wants, or Hawke persuades him to do something, he does everything he can to make Mredith agree with that. I love how in the "3 mages surrender" part he orders the templars to take these mages away as soon as Hawke says we should spare them, before Meredith can even open her mouth to object, lol. And she gets really mad at him for that

Edit for some Cullen:

Cuuuute.

I just wish they'd chosen a different facial tattoo, because I mistook it for the tranquil brand for a second. Which would have had... unpleasant implications. o-o

Oh my god, that was so funny! But then I felt sad at the end, really sad actually. But I loved it! ^_^

Thanks! Yeah, looking back at  to finish it up... it was surprisingly apropos for Cullen reminiscing about Hawke and Kirkwall. LOL

He's also said similar things previous to that. You can see many of things the devs have said over the years about including him in my The Case for Cullen in DA3 series.

That's interesting, so a human mage is a noble that got sent to the circle and we don't take over the Inquisition straight off the bat... I suppose Cassandra would wanna run a few "tests" LOL!

Getting more and more tempted to start with a mage, despite how I normally start with a rogue.

Headcanon blown up, lol. Now I need another story for my miss Trevelyan

Hmmm, so if Trevelyan is Fereldan, and was a Circle mage, can it mean that our Quizzy met Cullen before? Maybe fought in the Blight? Of course, maybe they sent our Trev to another Circle before the Blight for some reason. Because the Warden can just let all the mages die, and that would mean Trevelyan should be dead as well. So maybe they were raised in the Circle of Ferelden, and that's why they have the accent, but then were sent elsewhere.

My interpretation (hope, really) has always been that we essentially start off as the figurehead of the Inquisition at first, but only and because of our Fade-breach-closing powers, but as time goes on eventually earn the trust of Cassandra and the other founders and become the Inquisitor in our own right.

I'm so pleased I missed the cranky   dwarf, I'm not in the mood for being hated tonight.  It's been too long and tiring a day.
