Well, I just feel it made it seem real to me. It's an awkward conversation, but it's better than finding out later, like what happened to my friend, (made for a hilarious story). And I want them to educate people about bisexuality, you don't see many other people doing it. Just spreading biphobia *glaresatGlee* ;)

I can't stand biphobia. Like bisexuals are weak or something because they "can't commit to an orientation". Or that we're all cheaters because a few bad apples pulled that "It's not cheating if it's with the other gender" thing. Ugh...!

Huh, I must have missed that conversation. I only remember Zevran saying he preferred women, but following that up with saying something about 'not forgetting what he was' aka a male, and how he's perfectly fine with romancing his own gender too.

Obviously this requires another playthrough to refresh my apparently terrible memory.

I didn't like how they handled Ander's bisexuality either, and I definitely see no reason why he wouldn't mention Karl to a femHawke.

Yeah, that's one of my biggest peeves of that romance. Karl was used as a way to open up the path to finding out he likes men, so a male Hawke can pursue him. But I thought it added more depth and sadness to the outcome of Karl's chantry tranquil stuffs so I wish they would of kept it in no matter the gender.

One thing I did like about Zevran's bisexuality. He brings it up to womenfolk, and basically wants to know if knowing that about him is a dealbreaker, and if so best to find that out now. I liked that you could tell him you're not bothered by it at least. Better than the lack of gentle let down when Anders flirts with male Hawke.

Hopefully it'll be dealt with better in DA:I if the same gender hits on us again and we're not interested. Only having a mean way to handle it did not jive well with me at all.

And one would hope it'll go in reverse if they bring back straight/bi/gay romances. Couldn't even so much as flirt once to test the waters with Alistair or Morrigan. Better to tell me they ain't interested than to not have the option at all.

And to bring this back on topic.. Still hoping Cullen is available to all.

I don't have a problem with a character saying s/he is bisexual and talking about being bisexual. Damn I'm clearly not explaining myself well AT ALL. See what Samara said :P

Yeah, that part is the dodgy bit. Headcanon it out is what I do. I do it in real life too, might be a tad unhealthy, but still. I have similar problems with Leliana and her life as a bard. But I never romance her as a male Warden anyway, just becomes the story of a wayward girl, an evil lesbian and a magical penis otherwise. Bit like Jack in that respect.

Me, too. It's been such a long time coming, I hope anyone who wants to romance him can.

Honestly, I wished he'd kept mentioning Karl to later in the romance/even friendship path too, but maybe that's just me and how I feel about that sort of thing. I'm sort of private, so I, personally, would nope right out of telling someone I just met those kinds of extra details no matter what gender they were. *rubs chin*

I didn't complete a Leliana romance but that sounds dodgy too. Why in the Maker's name does every one not straight have to have... reasons for being so. I don't have reasons some might disagree with this assertion but I know I don't. So why write the LIs as needing reasons to be less than straight?

It's been a while since I've played DAO, and I couldn't remember exactly how that conversation with Zevran went, so I opened the toolset to check it out. He does mention his preference for women to both a male and female Warden, with some slight differences:

I just hope the game doesn't tiptoe around straight player bi- and homophobia. Anders not telling female Hawke about Karl is just weird.

But regarding Anders, yeah, that broken heart dialog is THE WORST!!!!

Anders: You seem like a great person... <3 Oh, I hope I'm not making you uncomfortable...?

Hawke: *selects </3* OH MY GOD, GROSS, EW, DON'T THINK OF ME THAT WAY!

Anders:  Hey no problem, a-hole...

Right, exactly. That is the root of my complaint about the Zevran romance. (And is why I love Isabela's romance.)

I would love to see someone have to give reasons for being straight for once... that might be an eye opener... :)

On a less joking note though, I completely agree with your sentiments. Why should they even  have to explain themselves? If they're romancing you (and you're playing the same sex), it's pretty obvious that they're into you... regardless of gender. Yeesh.

Thanks for these! Re-reading them, it does look like he was saying the Crows picked him BECAUSE he was bi, not that the Crows MADE him bi. Which is much better.

I avoid it quite easily. I pick up before the aggressive options that nets the same Rivarly points and stop the convo.
Though I agree that it wasn't well done.

The blog won't be updated regardless. They didn't with Vivienne (the first update is on Monday). They'd announce it on twitter or here.
But it's possible it won't happen this week.

I think the problem the writers run into with characters' sexuality is that just a small handful of gay or bi characters (we haven't had any definite 100% gay companions in DA yet, sadly) kind of stand for the whole community, and that's got to be tough.  Someone like Zev might have still been working out his sexuality, and because the community is in such dire need of great representation, he can't just be one messed up person -- he's an icon. And I feel bad for the writers, because they can't just Mary Sue the next gay male, lesbian female, bi male, and bi female. So Maker bless them because I think they can do a good job -- they just need to put a ton of effort into explaining each character's motivations and their status as an individual. It'd also help if the writers in general would decide if being gay or bi is something taboo in Thedas or not -- otherwise why would Zevran mention it, and why would Anders not talk to FemHawke about Karl? Mama likes consistency on these matters.   :D

And it's completely relatable to Cullen's status as an LI, because he'll likely either be bi or pc-sexual, and a lot of fans will be clamoring for some explanation as to why he's attracted to men now and didn't seem to be in DA:O or DAII (remember he only blushes about the "er.... ladies" of the Blooming Rose).

But the writers can pull it off. They just need to be super aware that the fans would appreciate the effort. :)

Yeah, those fans can suck it lol The ME writers did an AWWWWesome job with Kaidan and male Shep. It was brought up very sensitively between them, and not as Kaidan saying, "I never thought about being with men before, hmm" but more "Me and you, Shep? I guess I never thought... but yeah. Yeah :)"

*sighs*

Going from straight to gay happened to me over the course of a week so I don't see why Cullen can't change over a couple years
