I think it's the lack of facial expressions and emotion more than the silence that bothers me. I can get really into the Persona games (and otome gams) fine, all of which have silent protagonists, but there's... EMOTION in both their sprites and the 'voice' of the dialogue. As much as I adore DA:O, the lack of emotion from the protagonist is what gets me. I'm admittedly way more attached to Hawke than my warden.

I mean I can imagine it all in, but there's a difference to having to headcanon emotions onto a character and SEEING them in the actual game.

Edit: for me, at least. I'm not discrediting anyone who is more than fine with how DA:O did things! :)

Agreed. Hawke and Shepard felt like characters in their own right, simply because they were voiced and their facial expressions put across their personalities.

It's when guys grow crazy--and i mean CRAZY--moustaches during the month of November to raise prostate cancer awareness lol I live in New Zealand--my country does things the weird  But I was just wondering if other countries do it.

We do it here in the UK too :)
Turns out my fiance looks a lot like Freddie Mercury with a 'stache :/

Out of curiosity, rather than backgrounds, do you have any personalities planned? c:

Oh yes. :D In a way they'll be like my DA:O runs.

My Dwarf will be snarky but can't help wanting to help everyone. Usually ends up whining about the lack of money in end-game because she keeps giving it away. Is a sucker for lost children and animals. I'm pretty sure if a demon disguised themselves as a kid she'd be dead.

To counter my goody two shoes dorfette I usually do an 'evil' run on my Elf or Human. Choosing all the decisions I didn't go for last time as well. Paranoid, cold and ruthless. If there are any choices like Branka, I'll end up feeling guilty.

I thought about being an 'evil' Qunari but honestly it seems a bit meh considering some people think of them as evil already. So I'm going to try to be neutral on her as much as possible.

Another thing, I am still tossing ideas around for my fan fic and ran into a few problems regarding the political situation. I hope that you guys can help me with it. My memory isn’t the best because I haven’t played DA 2 for a while now.

  1. Is it canon that templars and magi were fighting each other everywhere? Is the old regime destroyed for good now?  Do the circles still exist?
  2. If the circles were all destroyed what do you think that Cullen was doing between DA 2 and DAI?
  3. Do you think that Cullen remained in Kirkwall after Merdith’s death? If so, do you believe that he would still be stationed at the Gallows even though there might be no more magi to watch?

1. Yes, templars officially broke away from the Chantry, because the Divine was "pro-mage". It doesn't mean that all templars hunt all mages everywhere, but Circles don't exist anymore, some were annuled, some rebelled. Most templars are probably hostile towards mages. However Cassandra says not all templars want war, so perhaps they divided.

2. According to Cullen's profile on dragonage.com Cullen was the head of Kirkwall templars after Meredith, and he restored the order in the city, and kept everything together until Cassandra showed up in 9:40.

3. I think Templars were still stationed at the Gallows, yes. Mages are not the only reason Circles exist. There are also vaults full of magical artifacts and lyrium, and templars have to guard those too. At least that's how it was in Ferelden. We didn't see the vaults in DAII, but I assume they exist.

That would be my assumption of Cullen's stance on the war and maybe a factor in joining the inquisition (as well as wanting to help people etc).

I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of those templars & seekers were recruited for the inquisition army and probably make up the majority? ... they would be an already a trained army... and then probably recruit others to fill out their ranks and be trained by professionals etc

I don't think Chantry-loyal templars were in majority. If they were, Lambert would not have had so much support. And mages would not have had so much trouble with fighting them. And in one of the demos devs said that in DAI if we want to form an alliance with the templars, we need to gain enough influence first, or they won't even talk to us. It sounds like the rebel templars are quite a power. And that they have more men than the Inquisition.

Also from the gameplay and storytelling points of view, having a templar army at our disposal from the beginning would be too easy.

So I think most of the templars are rebels. Others join the Inquisition. Some of the rebel templars apparently turn into Red Templars. Those who are still normal human beings are probably not all alike, and some of them may question if it's right what they are doing now, and as Inquisition gains more power, it may be possible to recruit them too. That's what I think about this conflict.

I'm probably reaching a bit here but I wonder if the that seemingly to be pointless gold thing Cullen has got tied around his hips had got something left over from his days as a Templar because Meredith seems to have the same kind of thing in DA:2.

Spoiler

That could be?

I don't think it's pointless, though. It seems to be attached to the two, um, flaps of his shawl coat thing so it keeps them closed-- or, at least, close to his body. He just appears to tuck it into his belt to keep it out the way.

(I refuse to acknowledge the wack arse bow at the back until I can't avoid it any longer. )

I meant that the inquisition army had prob majority ex-templar/chantry loyal templars not most of the templars overall where chantry-loyal because your right, Lambert wouldn't of had the support he need. I probably didn't type/say it very well, sorry!

But what you says makes more sense that you'll have to earn the trust of the chantry loyal templars before they even consider an alliance.

I could see a few templars following Cullan's example though and joining the inquisition with him

Actually that last sentence is what I really meant to say... I think a few would of followed him. (sorry I've been a bit emotional - read to many sad stories today)

This is random but I have noticed that if I mention Cullen in my tumblr posts, tumblr always tags them as Cullen. Even if I didn't put it in tags my post with word "Cullen" always are in the Cullen tag! That's so random and makes me nervous of speaking too much about Cullen ^^;

Wow, that's really bad. It makes it difficult for people to simply not tag their character hate/rants.

Oh just two dogs that were sick and had to be put down. I get very emotional about animals especially in that situation as I had a similar experience with a cat I adored. I'll have a cry, rant to my BF but I'll get over. I tend not to think straight after I've been crying LOL so I was typing that post while I was crying trying to say I think a few templars left with Cullen and I did a **** job of it lol

Yea I think the Cullen tag generally has problems like this. I mean I have seen people in the tag saying: "I hate Cullen!"and then end their post with that they won't tag their hate. But it's still in the tag! XD So somehow I think I'm not only one with this problem.

I don't like that feature so much though since I wouldn't all my Cullen stuff to go in the tag and make up space there XD It makes me more self-aware of fangirling when so many people have access to see it ^^;

Thank you very much  . This was really helpful since I aimed at a story that takes place before Cassandra recruits Cullen. I just wasn't sure where he would be and what he would do with the Circles gone and everything. You are right, of course, there are more things that a templar has to do than watching over the Circles.

Sera comes back to Skyhold long before the rest of her party.

SERA: It's embarrassing how slow the Inquisitor is whenever Varric joins us.

CULLEN: Is she?

SERA: Yes! As if they forget to walk when they talk... So Cullen, you and the Inquisitor?

CULLEN: What about us?

SERA: You look cute together.

CULLEN: Okay...

SERA: Must be weird thou.

CULLEN: What?

SERA: You know, you being a templar and she being a mage. That must be weird!

LELIANA: He actually had a crush on the Hero of Ferelden, back when she lived in the tower.

SERA: He did?!

LELIANA: Oh yes. But she ended up marrying another wannabe templar.

SERA: Aren't mages and templars supposed to hate each other?

LELIANA: So it seems if you look at the world.

CULLEN: You know I'm still here, right?

LELIANA: Of course, why do you find mages so attractive?

INQUISITOR: We found a cave not far from here, we're going there tomorrow. But Sera probably told you that already.

LELIANA: Maybe it's the practical side?

SERA: Or that she can close Fade rifts?

LELIANA: The Hero of Ferelden couldn't do that and he still had a crush on her.

INQUISITOR: Maybe it's my stunning looks?

VARRIC: Or the breath taking dwarf at her side?

LELIANA: Ogren was not breathtaking.

CULLEN: Or maybe you shouldn't be so interested in someone else’s privet life?

SERA: That would be boring.

INQUISITOR: Yes it would.

VARRIC: You are going to regret ever saying that Inquisitor.

INQUISITOR: I'm boring, there's nothing juicy to talk about.

SERA: So maybe you could tell us why you fell for a templar? Cullen refuses.

INQUISITOR: Of course...

...

SERA: Well?

INQUISITOR: I could tell you, but I won't.

CULLEN: Thank the Maker that you finally came to your senses.
