You have eagle's eyes!
I notices a hundred or two pages back, that Cullen's breastplate in DAI has similar construction to Meredith's in DAII - it's not made of one piece, like normal armor, and she's wearing the gorget over it. Design is different, of course, but templar armor changes the design all the time, so it's not a big deal. My point is - I think Cullen's lion armor is the repurposed Knight-Commander's armor. And I suspect he was the Knight-Commander of Kirkwall for a while, until Cassandra recruited him.

I was also thinking about the Hero of Ferelden. What if Leliana was looking for her/him to make them the general, but couldn't find in time, and Cullen got the job instead? Because someone of the devs said on raptr, I think, that Leliana may still be in relationship with the warden. So the warden apparently didn't just disappeared forever, but was just temporary unavailable :) And perhaps they reunited with Leli, but when they did, there was no vacancy anymore. And Cullen turned out to be a better option anyway, since the templars are trained to participate in exalted marches, and the warden only led an army once, and didn't plan the strategy anyway.

There is no question that his gauntlets aren't repurposed, the flaming sword gives that away as we already know. His chest piece is similar to Meredith's with the lines going down it, though his gorget is different from her this could be the difference in the female knight commander armour and the male. I think it is highly possible that all his armour is repurposed and he was the knight commander in Kirkwall. Obviously his over-coat thingy and helm isn't part of Templar armour. I can't wait to the learn the story behind that.

I know that Cullen would definitely be the better choice over my warden lol, she was hopeless. At the end of DA:2 Leliana said that both the Warden and Hawke were gone so I think that they had been searching for the Warden as well. I would love to know when Cassandra questioning Varric actually occurs. I had always just assumed it wasn't that far after the act 3 events in Kirkwall, but I'm now thinking that it was way after that, after Cullen had already started to put a majority of the city to rights and this is when he was recruited.

My husband thinks games - any games, even board games - are a waste of time. I have to fangirl to my kids  Not that I mind doing that, as they are quite happy to give Mom grief about her squeeing or squee right along with her. I just sometimes wish I could share that part of me with him. You're lucky  :)

I think it may be one of the only things we have in common lol. He actually got me into the DA games, though he isn't as into them as I am now which I'm kind of glad of because he knows that once October gets here the Xbox is mine. :)

So remember that Redcliffe demo we saw, its for certain that I will pick Cullen for that job, he is a Templar dealing with mages is his forte. So will you folk be doing something likewise or not think about it till you get to it?

I probably won't think about it until the game brings the mission up. Then I'll consider my team. It helps keep the immersion of the game for me.

I think it was said it's possible to avoid getting the Redcliffe thing to happen like that all together, so I hope that is the case in my play through. However I will almost certainly screw up, so if so I will send Cullen (if the circumstance fits when we actually get there). My first run is no redos so I'm afraid I'll kill him off by accident if I send him anywhere, but I'm trying to avoid playing just to keep some one alive this time. :u

To pass the time, another random question! How old will you guys make your Inquisitor? I think the range is something like 20-40 (not exact, but in that range.)

between late 20s and early 30s. Fairly young, but old enough to fit in with the majority of the companions who are in their 30s and 40s

Well

Female Qunari Knight Enchanter: Late 30's possibly 40

Male Dwarven Artificer: Late 30's possibly 40

Female Human Templar: Late 30's possibly 40

Male Elven Rift Mage: Late 30's possibly 40

Why? Because the Inquisitor is leading an Inquisition.

30-40 age group seems more fitting than 20-30 in my opinion.

Probably the same age as myself, which is 27.

Maybe.

Historically have there been Military leaders in their 20's?

Is this a common thing?

I'm pretty ignorant in this department.

Alexander the Great of Macedon though I think he was actually younger than that.

Edit: I searched. He was born in 356 BC and took up leadership after his father Philip II was assassinated around 336 BC so around 20 years old.

Cullen - to me - seems to be the better choice between he and Leli though I would rather wait until playing the game before making decisions. For all I know, the more successful route could be Josephine. I have a feeling I will be reloading quite a bit ^_^

Hmm. Interesting.

It must have been pretty tricky getting over the agism issue.

Was there an agism issue for him to overcome leading an army at such a young age?

Heck even Obama had some difficulty and he was in his 40's when he was elected as President.

Yeah but you have to remember but things were different. People didn't live for as long as we do now so they accomplished great things at a much younger age. So I don't see the problem with having a younger protagonist.

And you have to keep in mind what Gaider said at GaymerX about how people compare the game to the medieval times a lot, mostly unnecessarily.

If Joan of Arc can do it at 17, then I can do it at 20.

I see the Inquisitor as being in his/her mid-to-late thirties, since that age gives them more maturity and perspective on the job they're being required to do.

Definitely older than the last two protagonists at least, since the Warden I always imagined as being young and inexperienced (possibly early-to-mid 20s) and while a highly effective general in their own right, had a lot of help from people like Eamon when it cames to fighting the Blight or the Civil War, and leant on people like Seneschal Bran when it came to running Amaranthine.

Or Hawke, who was 25 at the start of DA2, and while being mature enough to look after his/her family as head of the household, was still young enough not to be particularly proactive when it came to dealing with the various problems in Kirkwall, being forced to deal with them when they became disasters rather than nipping them in the bud.

Yeah, I can see the Inquisitor as probably being the oldest protagonist thus far.

This is the first person that comes to my mind when I think about young historical military leaders :)

Do we have any idea of the time frame for Inquisition? As in how much time passes during the game? DA2 was what, 10 years?

Yeah he died at age 33 because of an illness, but he is regarded as one of the greatest military leaders in history so I think he did a lot for himself for the time he was a leader. The guy conquered the Persian empire, became king of Macedon, encouraged working with the people he conquered like the Persians. His empire broke apart when he died though. I gather that his death was unexpected so no successor was named to lead the army into Europe. So yeah, pretty interesting stuff about young leaders.   ;)
