Yeah, DG said he did. So, either he lied or he didn't know.
Ahh ok didn't know that.

They confirmed that a mage Inquisitor was originally from the Circle, right?
Human mage is from the Circle

They haven't told us anything about the qunari other than they've never known the Qun. *curious now*
Ooooh, dear. A warning to the wise: never touch the staff!
I like to imagine that after after the kiss, she will whack him with her staff for taking it xD
Ah, thanks for the clarification

Did he though? I remember him telling my warden he never had it as you are not given it until after you make your final vows, he was recruited as a warden before that.
I posted it a few pages back when we were discussing lyrium addiction, but someone wrote up a very good analysis based on the information we were given (mostly from Alistair, but also some clarification from David Gaider in an interview) about templars and lyrium.

From the post:
And this is DG’s “word of god” statement on Templar abilities during an interview in January 2012:
Even if Templar magic was recognized as spellcasting, it’s not innate to the Templars, if they just stopped taking lyrium eventually they would lose the ability. Although as Alistair proves, they can use the ability for a long time afterwards. I think part of that was just the requirements of gameplay, for us to have a specialization as well, so some of that story doesn’t quite match up with the gameplay, and I think eventually we’d like to work the lyrium requirement back into the gameplay as well.
The post also points out that Alistair doesn't actually say he never did lyrium, he says that he was never addicted to it. And Alistair has been known to lie by omission, or tell partial truths.
I really do recommend reading it, as it brings up a lot of good points.
Human mage yes
Thanks
See, I knew all this but I've been so busy with work and stuff that I completely forgot.
Yeah, I feel it too. Age differences aren't really my kink, though... so it does feel kinda awkward pairing him with Anora. As awkward as it would be for the Anora/Cousland pair, I always got the impression that Couslands, Mages and City Elves were around 18-20 in Origins. That's just how it 'feels' to me, though.
I"m wondering if it's possible to "kick" lyrium if you're willing to forego templar talents? Or if Cullen will lose his mind one way or the other.

We have no idea if Cullen is addicted to lyrium, so he might be able to kick it just fine.
Even so, some people get over addictions without losing their minds.
Well, we are a Marcher, so I wonder if you are from The Starkhaven Circle or the Gallows. Perhaps Ansburg, Markham, or Ostwick. They confirmed that a mage Inquisitor was originally from the Circle, right?

I'm thinking no.
It's Dragon Age: once you're hooked, you're screwed.
Or, if there is a way to kick the habit, it's at a terrible cost. Probably to those around you. And their mothers.

It's a shame we can't be Tal-Vashoth.

I guess it's to keep new players in mind. It's a bit difficult to play a Tal-Vashoth when you don't even know what the Qun is?
At the same time, though, I do find the story a Vashoth can offer just as interesting. ![]()
(Aaand I didn't quote those in order. Oops.)

Thanks for that, there is really a lot of inconsistencies. Though I suppose a lot could almost be hand waived as unclear in their individual statements.

I think it might depend on how much lyrium you take, how often, and for how long you've been taking lyrium for. Let's look at what we know:
Alistair was a former templar recruit, and yet he was still able to use templar abilities for a time even after he left the Chantry, up until the comics when he apparently has to start taking lyrium again in order to use his templar skills again. And as DG has said in an interview, "even if Templar magic was recognized as spellcasting, if they just stopped taking lyrium eventually they would lose the ability." And also, the Warden doesn't actually ask Alistair if he never took lyrium, just if he was addicted to it, which Alistair says no to.
And then let's consider templar recruits in general. In order to train them to use their powers, they'd actually have to have their powers, right? So if templar skills are not innate, then I think it's safe to assume that when you get recruited into the order and begin training, then recruits are given an initial dose of lyrium in order to activate their powers. Alistair shows that that initial dose of lyrium is enough to ensure that you'd be able to use these skills for a long time afterwards. And after you take your vows, the Chantry probably increases the dosage of lyrium they give you, until finally you become reliant on it and are addicted.
And finally, there's the templars that we run into in the games that are going through withdrawal, and then there's Evangeline from Asunder, who states that she needs at least two-vials a week to keep her going, without which insanity will kick in within a week. She also says, "There's no turning back from the Order once you're within" to Rhys when he comments on her addiction. Although, given her... special circumstances, she may have kicked the habit.
There was also that journal entry thing that Bioware released, written by a templar who was going through withdrawal because they pissed off their superior in some way, so their superior was retaliating by either cutting down on their lyrium ration or taking it away altogether? I'll try and find it later. It was floating around, somewhere.
But back to the point. Perhaps if you haven't been a templar for very long, then maybe it'd be possible to kick the habit and recover from the withdrawal. I imagine it would get harder and harder the longer you've been a templar until finally you just go insane. Whether or not the lyrium actually enhances the templar skills is a mystery (although I'm inclined to believe that it does, at least a little), but the Chantry definitely uses it to trap and control those who join the Order.
I"m wondering if it's possible to "kick" lyrium if you're willing to forego templar talents? Or if Cullen will lose his mind one way or the other.
I don't think so...Sampson in DA2 is no longer a templar and he's begging for it on the streets.
I think our character will be perhaps be a Senior Enchanter if we are a Circle Magi.
If that is true I will be tempted to make the most un-Senior Enchanter type character ever.
"Who the hell thought this was a good idea?"
...Then again most of my Inquisitors will be like that. ![]()
