**** I feel old!! I still remember what it's like to be early 20 something but I often get mistaken for much younger than I am (I got ID checked last week and I'm 34)

I'd feel the same about the also-ran thing, like Varric really wanted Bianca all this time but settled for the Inquisitor.

Surely my Inquisitor could do better than being someone's second choice?

If my Inquisitor ends up in a romance, it needs to be with someone who thinks she's someone pretty special. If not, she's better off on her own.

I pretty much feel exactly like you Hannah.

I've been in the situation of Amell/Surana as a kid into my early 20s. We never followed through with our feelings because his bro/sis and my bro/I were all friends  and we didn't want to ruin our friendship. Anyway, after approx. 23yrs I still have a soft spot for him. I still remember how I felt about him it's just a soft spot, nothing more. THAT being said if it was similar for Cullen I don't mind if he did have a soft spot for her & even talking about it but comparing would put me right off.

I'm also a bit of a green eyed monster, I'll probably be a bit annoyed if Cullen hooked up with anyone else even if I wasn't romancing him, but then I'll just have to take comfort in IB arms LOL

I could also see Cullen getting together with Josephine considering the time they may spend together even if they may not agree on things

I also haven't play mage warden so not sure if it's worth trying before DAI comes out?

Has anyone given mages freedom in DAO? Does it have any effect of DA2?

So Tumblr user hanktalkin had this really amusing breakdown of the potential remaining love interests; the final line cracked me up  (Obviously s/he is just being silly, so don't take it too seriously):

Okay so something in the Freaking Out the Neighboors panel at GaymerX got me thinking at one point in the panel, someone says “from da2 to inquisition, or even from dao to da2, a straight male gamer had the same amount of options”

Now in dao a straight male would have had 2 options. same with da2. if this quote is correct (mind you, they could have been meaning to say “from dao to da2” or purposefully withholding non-released information but humor me) then that means that in inquisition, a straight male only has 2 options.

2 straight male options have already been announced. that means viviene can’t be either a straight or bi love interest. Which means, a) she is a gay romance option, or b, both the remaining LI positions are male.

This tangent mainly focuses on option b. Because, if so i have some idea who the race gated romance options are.

So, one spot goes to the predicted male bi romance option (this being either solas or blackwall). And then, the spot that might have gone to viviene instead goes to a straight, dwarf-only varric.

But then who is the other race gated romance? you might ask. Well I’ll tell you. Since female dwarves have 4 straight options, Cullen is race-gated againstdwarves.

Because cullen only fucks mages.

The mage freedom boon is retconned away in DA2.

I don't like playing mage Wardens because I tend to turn them into brats with authority problems. I'm a dwarf noble kind of girl.

1. You can pretty much watch all the scenes on YT in about five minutes, so I'd say no? Just IMO though.

2. I don't think the boons have any effect on DA2.

Speaking of retcons, retconning away Cullen's epilogue epitomizes one of my favorite things about DA. It's a universe where no one is beyond hope. The poor, broken templar can regain his mind and find love instead of succumbing to madness. There's a...grace to that that I find very appealing, especially in contrast to other games where he would have stayed the villain. Does that make sense?

If you give Maratharis clan the land they wanted they'll still be massacred in DA2. She makes a comment about it though, saying she had to keep a promise to Flemeth.

I'm just watching it now, but do you guys think Cullen was required to strict the mage warden down if they failed the harrowing because of his crush?

EDIT: err I just realised that probably not because he is chosen regardless if male or female

I saw the Titanic stuff and had a 'ugh' moment, because the real life Jack was taken and it's unlikely there was any affair shenanigans. So everyone is remembering the wrong, romanticised BS story. Which... I guess suits Varric just fine.

Cullen has been through a lot and his character growth has been interesting to watch throughout the Dragon Age games. While I lament that his DA:O endings aren't canon because I don't think he was irredeemable even then, it was refreshing that he was able to recover instead of being left in a prison cell to be forgotten. It shows just how strong his character is that he is able to see the error of his ways on his own without player interference.

I've thought about this before, honestly. I think the answer could still be yes? If the idea is to try and "harden" the young templar and "cure" him of his sympathetic ways.

1. If it's a female mage, then obviously his crush was found out and the higher ups want to make a point with Cullen

2. If it's a male mage, well telling Cullen he has to be the one to strike him down would still affect the young templar; I mean I'm assuming this is the first time he's been given that order.

I blame a concussion. Or... bad lyrium. Bad fish! Forgot his contacts. Er.

I'm torn between wanting the writers to address this, or just wanting them to forget it ever happened.

They actually have adressed it.. wait a sec..

A real shame this guy isn't a playable character...  meh... he'd probably be too OP given his combat experience.

I just wanted post a few Cullen/Amell pics that I thought were just lovely .
<snip lovely but uncited fanart>

FYI, we should always strive to post the name of the artist, at a minimum, and ideally a link to their page if we repost art here. It's the least we can do to honor their hard work.

this was also something I'd considered. He does say that he's never even seen an abomination, so if he's done a Harrowing before, the mage always succeeded. I kinda like the notion (however harsh it might be on Greagoir's part) that they need to harden up the junior templars to the realities of their job.

Yes, and I mean, think about a Harrowing... it is a young person, probably a teenager. Not that teenagers are angels (ha) but there is an innocence there that would make it even tougher to smite down than if this were an experienced individual of mature years. And this is probably someone you know, too, even if you never really spoke.

Which is another thing, the mage Warden has surely been at the Circle for some time, perhaps since childhood. It seems unrealistic that s/he wouldn't know Cullen very well... unless Cullen himself is very, very new and has only been stationed at the Circle for a few months.

I mean the way he talks to the Warden, it sounds like they barely know each other.

I've always felt that even though they know each other, the interactions between mages and templars are probably kept to a minimum. I would imagine any available time Cullen had off wasn't spent in the company of mages and as such when he was around them he was on duty. So even though he says you can talk to him anytime, I doubt he would of neglected his duties to speak to the fem mage for a great length of time - well in imho I think even though young, he valued his duty and honour to highly to do otherwise.

I wonder how much will be made clear and how much will be left to us to imagine/believe.

Agree. Also, the Circle is often likened to High School, and there are always kids you've gone to school with forever that you've never actually spoken to. Add in the weirdness of templar vs. mage and how they shouldn't even be friends, and it doesn't seem far fetched to me that he knows her, but doesn't know-know her.

Exactly, there were hundreds of people I went to school with that I never once spoke to, but I knew of them because you see them around. Plus, Kinloch Hold was a big place (probably supposed to be bigger than what we got to see in DA:O. It's like how Anders didn't know our mage Warden in Awakening, despite then both residing there for years... I think he said he'd seen her/him around though or visa versa.

Once a geek, always a geek ;)

Having children doesn't change what you love, and often, hobbies like video games help when you just want to take a break from your kids, your job, and your house.

While I've changed through my life experiences, I'm defnitely the same geek I was 10-15 years ago.

Just turned 30 in June, and I have a five-year-old boy.
