Really? I've always been told that most Germans actually refuse to speak in English. I even tried to converse once with Germans in English but they simply refused. :P

My sister and her hubby traveled to Munich recently and they said just about everyone spoke English (not so much in Austria, but still, everyone was polite). I also have an online friend from Germany who lives near Berlin, and she said most Germans learn English throughout grade school and high school and are pretty good speakers, BUT as with all things, YMMV!

That's odd. I think most Europeans speak English pretty well. But I'm under the impression that people from France often dislike talking in england cause they love france more XD I guess that's only stereothype still?

So something off topic, but I really need some new inspirational music so I can draw/paint :D

This is one of my favorite track to listen to when I'm in my own little world:

Thomas Bergersen: Ocean Princess

*video snip*

Does someone has another musician to recommend, kind of like Thomas Bergersen? I would really love it if there's a choir in it (female or male) kinda like the song above.

Two Steps from Hell are very good. Actually Thomas Bergersen is a co-founder of the band/company.

Audiomachine also have some good pieces.

I don't really remember anyone else right now. If someone else comes in mind I'll tell you. :)

See, French is a language I've always wanted to learn. I can read and understand it to an extent but not enough for me to go out there and survive lol. Maybe one day if I ever have a bit of spare cash I'll take French lessons or something.

I guess it really depends for certain area's and each person is most likely different in that regard as well. Though things change all the time. Its very possible that Germans have no problem with conversing in English these days. :)

I think you encounter a lot of that in Paris. Again, going from the word of mouth of my sister, who visited France a few years back. We have a French friend, and he married a girl from here; they lived in France for several years. This wife of a friend said people were friendly but didn't always speak English, and my sister reported that shop owners in major touristy sections of Paris would not or could not speak English.

it's great because you can tell someone to go get f***ed in the *** and then call them a c***, while sounding beautiful!

It's like word sex to be honest. That and I've developed a authentic accent that fools all but the actual french. So if I ever need to hide my American-ness, I'm golden.

Oh, also just thought of Lisa Gerrard; she's awesome.

Stupid like quota

I see this all the time in the classroom; students getting snickered at by other students, especially students who look or act differently. It's frustrating. Interestingly, I have had one trans student (that I know of) and everyone was super cool to him. I think when it comes to sexuality younger people tend to be very accepting and friendly. But when it comes to acting outside the norm (like a nerdy goth girl I had in class once, boy did she get some snickers), it's not so easy.

Sorry, this is totally off topic!!!

Slightly on topic -- I have Liara on my office hours sign, and that strikes up loads of ME and DA conversations with random students, which is always awesome :D Probably pretty cool to learn your teacher plays video games!

I really wish our teachers were as cool as you! :D

Supposedly in Europe you can just say you're Canadian or British and no one will know the difference :P (Sorry if that's not true, Europeans).

I had the chance to go to a conference in Austria this summer but I turned it down b/c it took place during the World Cup #priorities

Yea I heard about that from my friends too. It's just so odd since in Sweden and Finland at least everyone around ages 16-35 speaks English pretty well. Older folks not so much and some kids haven't just learned English enough for conversations. So I'd think everyone in Europe pretty much understands english but they aren't just used in speaking it so much so they avoid situations which involve it? ^^

I've heard a lot about Desire! I intend to read those some day.... when they aren't so expensive, haha :P

I remember you saying you were genderqueer. I have actually written a message to you (and also to berelinde recently), but I chickened out and erased it before sending LOL *lame*

I read them a long time ago, but don't own them. Plan on buying the graphic novel formats on Amazon soonish now that it's been confirmed a Sandman movie is definitely happening. Not all at once though, because of price.

Hahah.. Well if you ever change your mind, I don't mind talking about it if you do decide to PM.

They're probably cooler than students give them credit for! I have a colleague who loves Transformers and science fiction, but you might never know that unless you talked to her about it.

My southern draw that is painfully obvious with the addition of alcohol tho.... I couldn't get away with that!

You're lucky! My french accent is so horrible that one of my french professors in my university had a hard time to understand me!

It takes a lot of practice. The actual french people don't think I sound authentic, but everyone else does. lol.

I've lived in a predominately spanish speaking area my entire life and barely know a phrase or two.

Ooh, which one? I love those games.
