Patrick Weekes said: "He also mentioned that he didn’t understand why they hadn’t announced the last two romances, but the marketing team insisted there had to be some mystery."
From that tumblr post. Interesting.

Damn, that's not good news!

Y'know, having the chance to get to know the 3 advisors before all our companions start to come on-board does sound like a really good idea! I mean, we won't be made the Inquisitor immediately and we do seem pretty suspect just stumbling out of the Fade like that whilst everyone else at the peace gather was totally annihilated, so spending at least a small amount of time getting to know the advisors and, in turn, allowing them to size you up is a good move especially as it seems that Cass initially decides to keep us around for whatever reason.

Viv: So, where is our guest of honor?

Cass: *points* by the hor d'oeurves

Inquisitor: tumblr_n2v4slH6vw1tqjn3bo1_r3_400.gif

Viv:...Is it too late to rethink this Inquisition idea?

Cullen: I dunno I think it's actually sort of cu-

*Viv raises an eyebrow*

Cullen: Uh *cough*  I'm sure she's just hungry

Cass: Maker, she's heading to the dessert table

DG on how they choose which characters will be romanceable: http://dgaider.tumbl...t-will-give-you

I always felt that was pretty obvious, I'm not entirely sure why people would assume that the "who will be an LI" thing would be a big deal.

We do not put “BISEXUAL” on the list of concepts next to “TEMPLAR CHANTRY LOYALIST” and “ORLESIAN REBEL MAGE”. Sexuality is no more a character concept on its own then, say, character class or race,

I really like this, and yeah, it's probably no surprise to any of us.

Amen! It's been well over 10 years nows, and while it's nice that he has no ill-feelings towards her it's high time you moved on buddy. One word about her to my Inquisitor and she's jumping on the Iron Bull.

... Which is weird because my Warden is me and my Inquisitor will also be me. Jealous of myself? That's a first!

Lol but it's true. I think my Inquisitor would direct him to the nearest therapist (And get another bf) if he was seriously still having issues getting over that crush. I mean, just imagine in the real world if it was over ten years later and some old boyfriend of yours is still not over you....I'd seriously be creeped out and would want them to seek some sort of help for that. Plus, think of it in terms of the players... Some people (even those who played f!Mage) never interacted with Cullen until the broken circle. Some people were just curious about the flirt option but went on to romance one of their companions. So, in truth, there would be a small percentage of people who would know and still be able to appreciate the scene with the Amell/Surana romance. In theory, again not to sound unpleasant, the whole Amell/Surana fling reference/scene would use up quite a bit of the dialogue that could've gone to some other form of romance dialogue, you know? Plus, idk if with the other characters (IE Cousland) that an Amell/Surana existed, and if so, how would they introduce that to new players, if at all?

Supposedly they existed; they just kicked the bucket early in their origins lol

Agreed. But nevertheless, I thought it was a very informative blogpost by Mr Gaider. I am always interested in hearing more about the workprocess at BioWare :)

I won't go so far as to say that, but they seem to be confusing "anxiety" with "eager anticipation"!

Honestly, if I was never curious about the Mage background in origins (As well as bored) I would've never played that origin lol. I would've been just as clueless as many other people about the F!Mage crush and would've been like: 'Amell, who the heck is Amell?'

I would want and lust for this game so much harder if I knew I had two love interests I liked going into it instead of just one I was kind of okay with.

*Shrugs* At this point I just want more Advisor info (not just Cullen but I mean how do they work, functions, etc. what happens if we choose one over the other, how does it affect my game, etc etc etc) as well as those VO vids we've been patiently waiting for :3

Plus, when it boils down to it (head canons and mods aside) in the vanilla game literally nothing happened between Cullen and Amell/Surana, even if she tries to seduce him. In DA2 I could see why he was still wistful over her because it had been, what? Two maybe three years and by that point he'd clearly still not met anyone else he'd liked as much, especially since he'd put her on a pedestal having never actually dated her to know what she may have been like to romance.

However, still holding a torch for her 10+ years on having never actually dated her or even interacted with her enough to form a proper friendship would be a bit much. I've always taken that little blurb about Amell in DA2 to be a hint that he'd likely be a potential romance in DAI, simply because he says "never met her like again", suggesting that he has a type (women of strength and courage, different from the norm). So yes, while he was wistful of her, he was also suggesting that he'd never met anyone else of that caliber (until DAI).

I don't think all of them died. There's a possibility the youngest Cousland may have escaped. Even the codex entry on this is unsure. Tabris may also still be alive, depending on choices made. We know the dwarf commoner is dead and the dwarf noble is also likely dead having been sentenced to the Deep Roads with only the barest of weapons and no armor. Mahariel is also most likely dead, at least by the end of DAO if not immediately. There are 3 fates for Amell/Surana: tranquility, Aeonar, or still in the Circle.

Speaking as someone who's used the decades long infatuation trope, it only really works if the endgame is Cullen/mage!Warden. Since it's not, it just makes the Inquisitor look like a second choice.

I would just like to see him admit his crush.  I think he will have long moved on by now.

But that crush is a part of who he is. A little mention is all it takes. <3 :wizard:

Agreed. Most people will probably remember the person they had a really huge crush on when they were younger. Doesn't mean that they haven't moved on but the memory is still there.

Exactly, I took it as that he admired her (almost like a role model of sorts) just because she went on to be a hero and he aspires to promote that sort of heroism in himself (I mean, look at his blurb!) if there is any reference, I would hope it was only to talk about how he was inspired to help people and not sit down and watch the world burn, much like how Amell/Surana answered their calls to become Wardens and defeat the blight. I could take that much. Or, at the most, catching him speaking to Blackwall and inquiring if he knew the Warden but only as a friendly chat and not to bring back his sorrows about her.

I'm not even going to romance him and I don't want him mentioning it. I would really give someone a pitying look if they admitted they were still carrying a torch for someone they barely knew ten years ago. Talk about a wet blanket of a guy lol!

I didn't even see it as wistful towards his old crush, personally. His remembering her came across more as "she was a great woman" because she was a great woman (Hero of Ferelden and all) rather than "I am still madly infatuated with that."

But from the post about the whole crush coming back full circle....it would seem to be more than just a laugh over 'silly crushes'. Sounds to me more like he would still not be completely over her...

He admitted it in DA2 though, that facial expression, the wistful look and fond memory of her. It was all there and I think he made peace with it.

I'll be rolling my eyes and picking a different LI if he mentions an old crush to the Inquisitor. Not only does the Inquisitor not know them beyond 'saved Ferelden from blight', but I doubt they'd care. It wouldn't be any sense of 'jealousy' that put me off, either. Instead I'd just find it kind of cringe worthy from a character development stand point-- he had barely even talked to the Mage Warden before!

To be completely honest, I'd find anyone obsessing over a crush he didn't truly know ten years down the track creepy as all hell:lol:
