I ship Cullen/Amell, but considering I never bothered to play the Amell in question and it's all my headcanon work, it's of limited relevance to DAI. So the question is: will I ship Cullen/Trevelyan?

"Had" being the operative word though. Presumably you're not still pining after him after all that time though lol.

Tbh, even with the professional relationship he didn't talk to her much, he says as much when you respond with "I knew I would not fail my harrowing" and he replies "you've always been so confident... Uh, or so I've heard".

 

I think there's an actual line that outright mentions how they haven't talked much/at all too. I hope there is, anyway, other wise my headspace is making things up and that's vaguely concerning... 

 

I did, however, get a sense that 'Uh, or so I've heard' might have also been a correction because he'd been watching her as is required of his duties, but didn't want to come across as a creep.

Given how balanced Cullen seemed about the Mage Warden in DA2, even though it was pretty recent at that time; I'm inclined to think he has moved on. To me it wouldn't be a harbinger of a creep to have him mention it in passing if asked or if the conversation kind of steers in that direction. I can remember some of my past crushes and there's been once or twice the discourse I was engaged in made a sensible place to mention such a thing. Not in terms of still having feelings but just saying, "That reminds me of this time I crushed on this one person." And that was it. I doubt Cullen is still all wibbly over his crush from the Circle.

So I wouldn't mind if it was mentioned but it's not important to me because I rarely played a female Mage. If he IS still pining for her, then yeah.... Creepo! Lol! Of all the things about his past that could be mentioned, however, I find that the least interesting. I want to learn where he's from, what were his formative years like, why did he join the Order? What's being a Templar like from his perspective aside from his memories about Uldred? That's more intriguing to me.

I know. But... isn't your comment also a little bit related to Cullen? Some of you said earlier that Cullen shouldn't mention his crush on the fem!Warden. So I saw a reference there when you said I shouldn't dwell about my crush. Which is fine. I don't . And I'm not offended or anything. But for the record, the only reason why I mentioned it was to point out that sometimes you don't forget such things. Cullen never made a big deal out it but he might still remember the feelings he once had. Therefore, I don't see any harm done if he mentions the Warden (or his crush on her) again.

I completely understand having reservations about dating/being romantically involved with someone who still has feelings for an ex or is in love with someone else. That's not healthy.

 

But to me, there is a big difference between that situation... and Cullen remembering the Hero of Ferelden fondly. 

 

I thought the way it was handled in DA2 was perfect. "I knew an Amell once. She was a special woman. Never met her like again."

Though... since you can romance him in Inquisition, it should be more like, "I never thought I'd meet her like again."

I think everyone is basically arguing the same thing here? No one is saying he shouldn't mention her ever HISS, we just don't want to hear him mention her in a way that indicates he hasn't truly moved on and left those feelings behind him-- and I'm sure those saying they WANT a mention don't mean it to be in a creepy 'I still lover her' way. I hope not, anyway.

It was handled perfectly in DA2, I don't think it needs to be mentioned again in DAI really. If it is then I'd prefer it in the past tense: "I used to have a crush" rather than wistfully going on about this wonderful woman that he couldn't and still can't have, lol.

Of course not. But if a new boyfriend would ask me: Do you remember the first guy you ever had a crush on? I would say yes.

Yes, this. Well said. I would like it that he mentions the warden (or the crush he once had) but I also think that he has moved on by now. My point was that he will probably remember her and his time in the Ferelden circle because it's part of who is.
