I'm thinking Dorian and Solas.
The only way I'd be happy with race-gated Dorian is if he's race-gated against elves and only because he feels uncomfortable with it because of the slavery situation in Tevinter. I don't want racist Dorian. It would harm the 'redeemer' thing, I think.

That could work. To be honest, short of racism, race-gating does not make sense to me. But I guess I should withhold judgment until I see how they've worked it out. (Though I'm currently seriously short of caring.)

Assuming one of the gated LIs is among the already announced, we could use that to figure out one of the remaining LIs. If Sera or Cass are gated, Vivienne has to be a LI to provide straight men/lesbians a second option regardless of race. If Dorian or Cullen is gated, one of the remaining men has to provide a second option for gay men/straight women.
If Dorian is the gated one, I will burn this forum to the ground.
Calm down Rex. As much as my love hate relationship with Cullen goes I think people would sad if this thread got locked for the tenth time. It is more and likely Sera and one of the two unconfirmed romances.

Honestly, race-gating because of possible racism makes me uncomfortable. Cullen's situation with mages is nuanced and not a simple matter... racism... is just racism. It would definitely affect how I would view 'em.
Then again, this 'story reasons' might not involve racism at all. Examples:
Vivienne keeping her politics in mind.
Solas wanting to be able to share the Fade and his lucid dreaming with his LI.
Well it doesn't have to be racism. It could just be that the writer really wanted to do a scene that makes no sense if Quizzy is Dalish.

Yeah, it makes me uncomfortable, too. It's just that anything else seems... contrived? Though both of those are believable reasons. I'm not sure I could respect the characters much though.

I agree. and this does make the characters more realistic...that they have things of their own that they are attracted to. It seems more realistic that not everyone will be head over heels for my inquisitor

There are in-story reasons for race-gating. Let's say, for the sake of argument, that Solas is only available to elven women. There's a very strong bias against elves mating with members of other species in Dragon Age, especially humans, due to their declining population and the fact that half-bloods just look human.
And is it really racist to have sexual preferences tied to one's own species?
I hated it. Not only did it make me somewhat dislike a character I once loved, but the whole 'hurr, the cripple can only ever have his computer' implications were pretty damn cringe worthy. I know someone with the real life equivalent of what Joker has, and he sure as HELL did not find Joker/EDI cute. :/
And I say this as a Trekkie who had nothing against Yar and Data. It's just different when the normal human side of the Advanced AI/Human pair isn't disabled and 'lives' through his computer/ship because moving is difficult.
We actually had someone visit our forum who's husband had Vrolik Syndrome. They were so excited at the prospect of Joker becoming a romance...we never heard from them again after ME3. 
I love EDI, don't get me wrong, there was just so much wrong with how it was all handled.

Flail indeed! If he's an LI it will be awesome. Solas and my mage Quizzy will stay up all night talking about magic and the Fade. I can see them having tons of things in common. (Ah, headcanons are wonderful).
If anything, I think Cullen might be gated from Qunquisitors. It would make sense story-wise to me, anyways.
Although, since most people in-universe have an issue with differentiating Qun Qunari and the race qunari, it would be interesting to have a conversation with him about it. Maybe he wouldn't be as "heathen!" as he was in the past.

The problem is, though, how would they decide that? Elves for certain, but the dwarf is a surface dwarf. They could be Andrastian, still believe in the Stone, or not even think about that kind of thing.
Our Vashoth could easily be Andrastian as well.
Wouldn't it make most sense to race-gate Cullen towards dalish Inquisitor though? Everyone else has been raised in Andrastian society but them of Inquisitors.
