I missed the Star Trek talk. 

 

Well, I don't care. I'mma join in anyway real quick:

 

I was totally a Chakotay girl all the way. I disliked Chakotay/Seven because it had zero development and was just thrown in, why they threw away the development they'd been giving Chakotay/Janeway forever I have no idea. It especially stung when they passed over that development just to give her a holo-deck relationship. D:

 

I also totally shipped him with B'Elanna, but I really didn't like Tom except when he was interacting with Harry.   

 

Tuvok was also a favourite! I geeked the hell out when I heard him as Zathrian. And of course I geeked out when I heard Janeway as Flemeth!

OT ST: VOY stuff:

Yes, I did hear that someone high up (or someone(s)) refused to allow any LGBT characters on the show at any point and in any of its iterations. Of course the one exception is the kiss Dax shares with a former female lover in DS9... it's always accepted when it's two cute girls *rolls eyes* But even then it was couched in "the forbidden" as Jadzia Dax was breaking the rules by initiating something with the symbiont's former partner.

 

I do agree that Harry seemed to have a thing for Paris, and it's a shame that didn't make it into the show. There was talk that in the most recent Star Trek movie there could be crew members who were gay or lesbian (perhaps even a couple), just background characters to show it's totally normal and accepted in Star Fleet, but the filmmakers opted not to do this, to the disappointment of a lot of fans, Yours Truly included.

 

Slightly back on topic, it's my great hope that we'll see LGBT characters in DAI, and not joke characters like Wade and Herren or Serenity. Well, if Briala and/or Celene make it into the game, that answers that question.

THIS is really sad and irritating, because the creator of Star Trek had plans to put a gay couple into one of the stories and even have a plot that properly revolved around them (and I believe they were planned to be male too? Which I hardly ever see done.) Sadly he died before he implemented the characters/story and once he was gone no one had any reason to do what he wanted. :/

Wait WHAT Harry was gay!? I must have missed that completely....dammit I haven't watch voyager in a long time. 

Didn't the episode with TNG Riker falling in love with that alien race that is anrodgenous and it's implied it doesn't know what it wants to be yet, but Riker loves it anyway? (using 'it' because of alien not because of ambiguous gender)

He wanted to put a proper gay couple in. Like one that would be in the series long time, not just an episode. (I don't know about Harry, but I doubt he was the character he planned this for.)

 

Yeah, there was that storyline, but that was the bigwig's 'compromise' and one that left a bad taste in my mouth, because of how it was written. It was obvious the 'androgynous' race who chose their gender would end up female, anyway. The only reason they had reservations about choosing a gender is because, on their planet, it was seen as an illness and crime that had to be cured.

That letter kind of reminds me, so I've been thinking, does anyone else sorta get... hmm. Uh. "Mr. Darcyish" vibes off of what Cullen's romance might be like? At least at first, before the "But do you like me like me?" part of the romance. You know, with the soft lingering eyes and the small smiles and the stiff gestures and well-meaning-but-yet-again-super-subtle-overtures of his affection? Although in this case it's not so much that he's trying to deny or hide his feelings as it is that he's just trying to be discreet about them in public, especially if he's not sure if they're returned. (But when he is sure about whether or not his feelings are reciprocated then he becomes much more open about them. But I think that's how pretty much everyone ever would react in that case. :S)

 

I dunno, I might just be absorbing too much Austen because of work. :S That and I just rewatched the BBC Pride and Prejudice miniseries (because of work) and OMG Colin Firth is the best Darcy

Kinda. As much as I love Mr Darcy I hope there isn't too much similarities BUT I do get what you're saying and I think it's quite possible. I think I'm going for circle mage and I hope you can still angle the whole "he's a templar, don't trust him, don't like him" kinda thing and move on from there... which now that I think about it is kinda Mr Darcy/Lizzie OOPS...

 

Btw I think BBC version is the best. When I first moved out with a good friend in our mid 20s every Sunday morning (she dated a lot of duds) it would be on lol

LOL I was going to say the same thing. They gave him Alistair's hair!! (which is an important way to distinguishing Cullen vs. Alistair fanart; LOL) But he still has Cullen's frowny eyebrows.
