Ironically, it would be nice to walk into a Chantry while it was in session. Perhaps hear them either praying or singing would be nice. :3

Something like what the Dwarves sing in The Hobbit, that still gives me chills even now!

Which would make me likely to declare him an enemy on sight. How would you propose that he earn my trust?

Now, now, now. No need to go swinging for his head (save that for Viv) on sight. Give him a chance. I'd wait to see the situation in the game before you make a choice. I find that these games often of twisting around pre-conceived notions.

I know!! Still, I could imagine the effect of their voices ringing off the walls of a grandiose Chantry. IDK why, but the image I get is very tranquil and beautiful.  ^^'

Vivienne may be exceedingly obnoxious, but doesn't belong to a sworn enemy faction. And my notions aren't preconceived so much as conceived over the course of two games knowing him.

How do you think he should win my trust?

He probably would be your moral enemy, actually. Whether the game gives you reason, or desperate need, to recruit him besides that fact, I don't know.

Wow. Hearing lyrics you've written being sung by an entire choir...I have chills, man. Chills. #DAI

Idk, Xil, since you seem a tad hell bent on lopping his head off. Regardless, I would wait to see what he is actually doing before making a choice. Let that win your trust.

Well, breaking off the war against the mages would be a nice start.

I actually strongly dislike killing anyone who's meant to be in my party, but I'm looking for RP reasons as to why I'd accept his help.

Yup, we all posted some of Trevor Morris' music in the thread so we could try and get a feel for where the soundtrack might be going.

You are still assuming he's a part of Lambert's remnants, which I believe that he is not a part of at all. I think he remains loyal to the Divine, which is good, considering what she has done for mages in Asunder.

If we can get as good a soundtrack as Dragon's Dogma, I will literally start throwing money at my laptop screen.

Hmm I don't know Xil. If the situation was flipped how would you plan on earning his?

All right, so he would still be part of the Chantry and technically not the Templar Order anymore?

If he was running the Inquisition? I'd probably just try to stay the hell away.

Yup, or at least a faction of the Templar Order that supports the Divine and didn't follow Lambert's call to war.

Yeah, we know from tweets from DG and the composer that a choir was recorded... I'm really hoping to hear the Chant sung for once and if that happens anywhere the grand cathedral of VR seems the place to do it!

Also so far as Cullen singing, I'd love to hear a hymn or a somber battle song, he'll from anyone! Lol, music is a huge part of my life and RL old world customs often included it far more readily in their customs than is quite as common in modern time, so it'd be a fantastic addition to the game. Leliana singing is still one of my fave parts of DAI... And I have a weak spot for somber ballads/battle songs/dirges ^.^

... And now I need to go watch the dwarves singing in the hobbit. And maybe Anuna's Salve Rex Gloriae.

Question: if Cullen is a companion, how should he be differentiated from Cassandra in personality and story arc?

There is, I suppose, one starting point: Cassandra's backstory involved seeing good things from both sides, while Cullen has, for the most part, only seen bad things.

I've always found Cassandra to be a lot like Cullen, tbh so I couldn't say. I'm waiting for DA:I to finalize opinions, but Cass struck me to be like a female Cullen that the devs created to see if the character truly was a problem. Kind of like seeing if Cullen's biggest dissenters would love the character if it was female, thus proving the theory of sexism surrounding Cullen. That's not true in your case Xil, as you actually articulate good reasons and discussion for your opinions.

So, at the end of the day, I see little difference in their personalities. They're both devout and serve the institution of the Chantry in some capacity. They both can be pretty hostile in doing their duties. Cullen kneed Wilmod in the groin and Cass came perilously close to pinning Varrics family jewels to Hawke's journal. They both have seemed to have feelings for a mage and often they both feel they have a duty to perform even when they don't always agree with it. They don't trust mages. Cullen feels mages should be protected (even from themselves). I don't know what Cassandra believes on that but she doesn't seem to trust them either, though her dedication seems to be more for the Chantry or the Divine but that's semantics, really.... Cass's biggest difference from Cullen that I see is in Dawn of the Seeker...

Spoiler

I found her story in the movie to be a possible cut and paste for a Cullen arc since not much is known about him and the way she's portrayed reminds me of him. The particular departments of the Chantry they serve are different and their genders are different. That's about all I see. I hope they're given greater distinction in DA:I

All of this, YES!!!!!!! Music is totally my life and how I see and view the world around me IRL, so I want to hear choirs and singing galore!

seriously resisting the urge to continue that with....they're multiplying....damn

But that would be an amazing thing...walking into the chantry, the choir up front belting out a hymn...

Would it really be enough though? Tbh, I think even if he sacrificed himself by fighting off a hoard of rebel/red Templars single handedly to allow a large group of mages to escape it still wouldn't really be enough for you due to your feelings regarding his past actions.

IF he died during said hypothetical scenario then I think maybe you'd possibly consider him redeemed, briefly... but then you'd change your mind because that wouldn't cover the amount of mage lives lost from the time he took up his sword as a Templar to the point in which he died. And if by some stroke of luck he managed to survive such a scenario then you still wouldn't trust him because you'd feel that he'd need to die for his past sins in order to be absolved, lol.

... That's how I've always interpreted your opinion of him, anyway.
