Leliana's romance was fairly happy. Merrill's romance, as well.
If Leliana and the Warden are even still together, lol. Merrill's went well, as far as we know so far!

Well, even if two people eventually separate, it doesn't diminish the joyful times they spent together.
On a long enough timeline, all relationships technically end in tragedy.

This is true! I wonder how long Leliana actually stayed with the Warden before she left, if she left. Do we know for sure they they even broke up?
There are only two references to Leliana's relationship with the Warden post-DAO: a letter that's in the Warden's possession during Awakening and her mentioning the Warden is "dear to my heart" in DA2.
They might have split up. They might be "apart but together," ala Jaheira. Or the Warden might be dead.
*Shrugs*
Haha I actually wonder if it will come up in game... he was so so oblivious

See, it never even crossed my mind that (the Warden's who romanced her) had broken up until people started presuming they had because they weren't travelling around together. I mean, you don't need to be with someone 24/7 to be in a relationship, some people work away for weeks/months/years at a time and don't see their partners, or have long distance relationships but they're still together as a couple, lol.
I share the same view, but there are some who think that unless the Warden and Leliana are welded at the hip or living in domestic bliss at a cabin in the hills, they're not "together."

I couldn't think of anything worse! Not sure I'd want anyone up in my grill 24/7, girls gotta have her space, y'know!
Does anyone else keep periodically visiting Cullen's character page and interview on the DA website just to read through it and analyse the pictures in case you missed some small detail that could give away a little more about his personality/involvement in DAI?
... No? Just me then. ![]()

*Raises hand meekly* Yeah, I do. I have this strange hope they'll put a new screenshot or something. I also read through Brianne's interview from time to time, to remind myself exactly how it's worded. ![]()
I was just reading in another thread how women in BioWare games seem to get the short end of the stick if they romance human males. Possibilities, of course, apply, but...
Alistair can dump you
Kaidan dumps you in ME2
Thane dies
Jacob cheats
Anders blows up the Chantry
The only one I can think of that doesn't is Anomen in Baldur's Gate 2. But I've also never played KoTOR and only have a very sketchy memory of NWN. Hopefully, Cullen's romance doesn't go any of these routes, but the odds aren't in our favor...

Anomen can kill himself (but that's only if you don't complete his quest in time).
With Carth (KOTOR) there is an ending where he dies if you pick the dark side, but I can't remember if that always happens in the ds ending if he's romanced or if you can choose to spare him.
I think Valen (Nwn:HotU) and Sky (Jade Empire) stayed alive without dumping you or cheating on you.
Edit: Oh, and then there are some dudes in Nwn2. Casavir and Bishop are ok in the OC, not so much in MotB. Can't remember if anything bad could happen to that hagspawn dude.
Edit2: As long as it's just possibilities it doesn't bother me very much. But having your LI cheat on you, die on you or explode chantries no matter what choices your protagonist makes would bother me if it was an LI I cared about.

I`m glad i`m not the only one
. I`m always hoping to see a new screenshot
!
Phew, definitely not just me lurking on his page then! I was on it when I posted that question and I was thinking: "you know you're not going to find anything new, why do you do this to yourself? See, now you're all excited for the game again and you've just remembered that it's not until November." LOL!
Yeah I think this all depends on if there's a Templar a order to go back to. There seems to be a reason he's no longer a Templar. Til we know what it is, I think it's too hard to say.Perhaps we'll end up signing his side of the Inquisition over to do the Templars job, if you decide that you want to reinstate the circles or something?

That might be the case in some games, but not all of them. The cases that come to my mind:
- Anomen can leave you in BG2 if you screw up things with his personal quest. He can also die. And he is the only choice for female PCs. 3 for male PCs.
- Neverwinter Nights has Aarin for females and Aribeth for males. Aarin's story is rather bland, even though you can sort of guess a happy ending if things turn for the better. Aribeth's is far more interesting, but it can certainly have a bad ending. Not counting Hordes of the Underdark since Valen is not human.
- KOTOR There's Carth for females and Bastila for males, and they can both end badly, depending on which side of the force the player choses.
- Jade Empire. Again more choices for males, but good or bad ending is not attached to the romance part per se, like the above.
- Mass Effect is similar, but in this one, each gender has 2 choices, even though one of them is alien...
- DAO complicates things a bit. Even being your lover, Alistair can dump you, abandon you, get executed or die while killing the Archdemon. Also, there's that thing with Morrigan... creepy. On the other hand, if you play a male, you can lose Leliana too, or kill her in the Sacred Ashes quest. And Morrigan leaves, no matter what...
- ME2 has Jacob for females and Miranda and Jack for males. Any of them can die at the end if you don't do things right. But, even though males get more human choices, I have to admit Garrus and Thane are far more interesting than Jacob. Also, Ashley and Kaidan are equally pissed by Shepard joining Cerberus.
- DA2 has Isabella and Anders, and I thank Andraste I never liked him cause there's no way things can end well with Anders. Isabella can go wrong, but it can also go surprisingly right.
- In ME3 you can go back to Kaidan (or Ashley) but Jacob moves on. Miranda and Jack are still available from what I've seen, and also Steve Cortez. Male players are so favored in this game they can even try to hook up with Kaidan. Females get... Diana Allers and Samantha Trainor....... I was just "I think I'm going to spend all my free time helping calibrate that big gun..."
So, I don't think romancing a human male is a recipe for tragedy, except in that Anders case... really, Jacob is not that interesting, I was even happy to find he was going to be a father and all. For the rest, it can work out, somehow. There's always a way to make things end on a brighter note. Just remeber to save every time you talk to Cullen! Just in case... ![]()

I was thinking more along the lines of his faction within the Inquisition taking over from the Templars, kinda like the original Inquisition done and then renamed themselves, lol.

Actually, I could totally see that happening...if my Inquisitor doesn't have plans to keep him otherwise occupied. ![]()

I do wonder if maybe he'll come to us ala DA2's "Questioning Beliefs" and ask us what we think he should do etc.

I would not be surprised at all if we get that moment. Should be interesting....

Methinks you'll need to get rid of Lambert first.
