My husband and I play video games, the two sons play video games and BOTH my parents in their 60's play too, no age limit to having fun!

I think its great none of us have to conform to the "norms"

I agree! I think there are a lot more people 40 and up playing games online than people realize, including some who tried them because they wanted to spend fun time with their kids and grandkids, got hooked, and kept playing.

Isn't the average gamer age like 30-something? And yeah, I got my dad whom is 59, hooked on gaming due to the fact that growing up, my brother and I were into it, and he wanted to spend time with us. He's not an avid gamer, but he enjoys vs-ing me and my brother on the xbox.

I started playing in my late 30's when I got my first apple computer -for work purposes. :D   Then picked up a system my 6 yr old step-daughter could play, then got one of the other systems and eventually had one of each.  She is now grown up, married to a gamer and has a little girl almost 3 years old who loves sitting on my lap and playing peppa pig on the computer.  Soon she will be my co-op partner.  And I'm 63.  I threw that memo in the trash where it belonged.

One year they got me a Wii for one birthday and the next said they were giving me a grandkid.  My husband got me a gaming computer for a birthday because i wanted to try out TOR.   We also have 2 xbox 360s because we both play.

The days of gamers being assumed to be spotty faced teenagers are quickly vanishing but it seemed for a long time that was the belief.

Then came the OMG girls play games? Followed closely by the Old people play games? lol

My parents started playing an MMO alongside me years ago, they wanted to show interest in something I had an interest in and like you say, they became hooked in their own rights.

It's funny though, mum never did quite get the whole "bash things, bash more stuff & level up" part, she had one character that got to like lvl 20 and then spent months standing in an alleyway crafting leather patches lol. She plays Scrabble and Bejewelled now

Dad believes he's hardcore lol he plays DA although I use the term loosely lol, I showed him how to add mods onto DAO, you know nice armours and CC stuff, he found himself some OP'd armour with like +150 all stats & a kill all button and I still dont think he has completed the game lol but he loves Morrigan, each to their own I suppose

I'm sure I read somewhere that the average gamer is 35+ :) .

Hiya :) Nothing DAI related today atall, which was a pity. If you are a Tomb Raider fan they seemingly dropped a doozey and its going to be X-box exclusive I think. Apart from that just some upcoming game info.

Big day tomorrow for DAI (fingers crossed!).

Without much success, I've been trying to teach my parrot to say "I'll smite you!", so far, I've got "you're an ar*e" (his favourite) and a range from quiet insolence to laughing at me.

I will persevere..you know, for science lol.

It is 31.

I must be stuck in a time warp. No one takes my gaming seriously except a couple friends (sort of). My parents and older sister think it's ridiculous that I play video games. No one buys me games even though they take up half my amazon wishlist. And don't think I don't notice that these same family members consistently buy video games for my 31 and 36 year old brother and brother-in-law.

A long long time ago, I had a Commodore 64.  I played games like Monsters R Us and Caveman Ughlympics (later on, it was a cartridge).  I had to change disks!  Floppy disks!  I lost my best monster to my dad.... it was very sad.

Later on my dad and I would group up in Everquest and camp the frogman that dropped the shimmery robe of sparkleness that was awesome for mages, for my dad, since I was the warrior.  Ahhh good times =)

I keep saying "Nerds for life, yo" and "I didn't choose the nerd life, the nerd life chose me" to everyone who tells me I cant be a gamer because I am middle aged/female/have kids/am married =)  Feel free to use those in your life, because obviously this thread is the coolest, and we should so seriously come up with some Cullen bling (thoughts drifting to Cullen's head in rhinestones)

And my tablet thingy for drawing on the computer!  Its supposed to be here today!  The company that is delivering it usually gets here between 1 and 2, so Im bouncing with excitement!  I will be able to finish my storyboards, finish my Cullen, watch gamescom, and maybe make 40 on my Jedi Knight!  I will post my Cullen with haste as soon as he finished!

Edited:  and hit post and my package gets here!  YAY!

Wow. Can I exchange my "adults don't play video games!" mom for you husband and two sons?

Awww....It gets better when you get to choose who you live with! (Or raise 'em right... ^_^)  All gamers, every last one of them.  And I'd told them what I wanted, point blank, like months ago.  Wasn't expecting the monster they got me tho. I can't wait to get my hands on it. *grabby hands*

We had a Commodore 64, too!!! :D I played Jump Man, Pike's Peak, and Rootin' Tootin'... I have no idea if that's how you spell that  Yeah, even after seeing me play those games so much, and seeing me go to my cousin's house to play Super Mario Bros. on her Nintendo, my parents still bought my little brother a gaming system, not me. Sheesh!

Nope. And an average of 31 means there are a heck of a love of gamers older than that. Think about it: gaming is an EXPENSIVE hobby. A lot of people don't really start having a disposable income until 30+.

A lot of older gamers started young and just never quit.  When we had kids...instant bonding opportunity!  Still, where I live it's certainly not expected of someone my age.  I get some weird looks whenever I mention it.  It's always a blast running into someone, especially a woman, my age who also likes games...it's like a strange sorority or something.
