...now I have this delightfully idealistic vision of moderate Templars unifying with moderate Mages and forming bonds somewhat akin to the set up in the Wheel of Time books, between Aes Sedai and Warders ^.^ Just.. without the corruption and gender skews and with the Warders having the added task of watching their partner for demon corruption. More of a symbiosis.
Whatever, it makes sense in my head. *sleepy*

It's funny to me that this is now so widespread an idea when it used to seem like you had to pick a side. I have a fic bunny nibbling on my ankles to write a story about that.

Oh, is it a widespread idea? Dangit,so much for my sleep addled brilliance. *hangs head*

Who's the author?

Robert Jordan wrote most of the books in the series, but sadly passed away before he could finish it, so another author - Brandon Sanderson - finished the last few novels, with a lot of help from Jordan's notes and his wife. :)

I read these in high school (when they first came out and Mr. Jordan was still with us); I think even then I was turned off by the weird way he sees gender.

No, it's not that it's a widespread idea. And your's is the most articulated idea I've heard. I just mean that I'm hearing more ideas about compromise lately when it used to seem like no one thought there was a middle ground. :D Sorry if I didn't express myself very well. I'm a bit sleep deprived. :)

Just wanted to let you all know I'm still alive and slogging through another play through of Awakening.

As for no news this week, I'm really not surprised. They did throw quite a bit at us last week. Even Twitter has been rather quiet today. And DG hasn't responded to my question yet and not surprised about that either.

Carry on... ^_^

Yes, I can understand what you mean. It never bothered me enough to keep me from enjoying the books, but the o.O moments were there.

Lol, you and me both. I'm currently nursing a near-3-month-old... I haven't had a full nights sleep in too long. no apologies needed!

I've ALWAYS wanted compromise. I hope it can be achieved as do my "canon" PCs so far... And probably my inquisitor, too. A bond between a Mage and a Templar/warder that benefitted them both and allowed each to keep the other in check, without either being superior to the other, really would be ideal... And, alas, probably a pipe dream and not something we'd see come to fruition in DAI anyway

Did you guys see this in the Twitter thread?

User@user: @HulegaardBooks
Any chance we will find out if Cullen is a companion in the near future?

David Hulegaard@HulegaardBooks: @user we will absolutely answer that question at some point before launch.  :)

Well it's always good to look on the bright side...

I'm curious about what Cullen's relationship with the Chantry post split will be too.  We really know so little of his beliefs at the moment.  Is he a devout Andrastrian?  Does he serve the Templars because of their religious affiliation?  Is he a Templar first?  I think it could be interesting to see his interactions with Cassandra if they are both devout but arrive at opposite conclusions on how to resolve the conflict.

I used to think there was a strong argument that Origins and DA2 would see him crystallize into a more radical Templar pushing for stronger control over the Mages but the advent of the Red Templars and his LI status has made me think this is unlikely.  I believe that they will try to preserve the 'good and moderate' man in difficult circumstances rather than make him a polarizing figure.

Anyway, that's my 2 cents for what it's worth.  Gosh you all can talk, I still haven't caught up!   :)

I remember those days! Nursing my kids was such a lovely experience but, yeah, it was a sleep thief. Congrats on the new bundle though! :D

I've always wanted a compromise too. Pretty much every fic I write is about a compromise and how it might be reached. I'm currenlty working "Collide" but a new fic bunny is hopping for attention and it centers around Cullen, going rogue after learning something horrible about red lyrium. He runs away and petitions King Alistair for help who sets up a safe haven at old Castle Cousland -since it's empty. So Cullen is out there, saving mages from red templars and sending them to Ferelden but he also saves good knights from bad knights and angry mages. One day, Anders comes upon him, (because he escaped Kirkwall) defending mages that he himself had heard of. When the battle is done, there are, of course, harsh words but then they're attacked again, they agree to help each other for the moment. Needless to say that moment stretches into days, and more side stops to save mages. Then Cullen saves some templars from blood mages and there are words again. They eventually agree to work on the principal of putting back wrongs and swear to each other "If I'm ever down, don't save me. I'm not doing this for you." and so it goes until that totally happens anyway. ;) And it results in a near death thing that has to be addressed. Which in turn has Anders asking what happened in Kirkwall after he left and Cullen explains what he learned before leaving... and what he did about it. Basically he tells Anders that he was right that the Circle system as they knew it couldn't continue but that he was wrong about there not being a compromise. And then Cullen produces Hawke's journal with ideas she had for a better system which he now wants to see realized to honor her. So they embark on a quest to do just that, becoming friends along the way.

So, yeah... :D It's stupidly naive and idyllic I suppose but it fascinates me. ^_^

LIKE!

Tbh, I couldn't ship them as more than friends but once there, they'd have a beautiful friendship. And even then it's only possible because Cullen has his faith in the Chantry shattered. I hadn't even considered it before until I heard a song...

Seriously, you crazy people are shipping Anders and Cullen?  Well it would be a complicated relationship, I'll give you that!   ;)

What's wrong with Cassandra and Cullen.  They're both warriors, presumably somewhat religious, have suffered at the hands of magic and yet are capable of retaining a level head about the whole thing, Cassandra likes stabbing books and we've seen Cullen stab things, they both have   great hair - they are practically perfect for each other.  If I wasn't so certain about keeping Cullen for myself that's the pair I'd go for.   :P

I'm fine with Cass x Cullen. It doesn't get me all excited with feels inside, but I like it.

I had an Anders x Cullen dream that just stuck with me. Never thought about the pairing before then, but since that dream, I can't forget it. I think Dragon Age is the first fandom where I've started shipping people with multiple partners. I guess it's the fact that my own character can romance someone differently each time; it's encouraged me to veer away from having OTPs (which is what I normally do in any given fandom).

EDIT: My only total OTP is M!Hawke x Fenris; I will read M!Hawke x Anders, or maybe M!Hawke x Isabela, but Fenris can only go with Hawke, specifically, my Hawke :P

Just curious, what are everyone's Cullen-related OTPs? Other than Anders x Cullen and Cullen x Alain, I've got my M!Lavellan x Cullen pair. I'm okay with and would happily read about Cullen x Cass or Cullen x F!Cadash. Of course when it comes to you guys' fanfic I will read him however you prefer to write him; I've enjoyed all the various ships I've read thus far :D

I think that's a great question to ask about Cullen. Did Cullen become a templar because he was devout? Or, did Cullen become devout because he was a templar? That's an important distinction, especially with the divide happening between the Templar Order and the Chantry. Either Cullen is aligned with the Divine, or he's taken a third option. I have a hard time seeing a possible LI being with the Red Templars, although stranger things have happened.

Cullen and Orana, I think.  She's had a miserable life and needs someone to value and love her and I think Cullen would be lovely to her.  I always wanted Orana to have a happily ever after and I think she would make a nice Ms Cullen.  Yep, if he wasn't going to be a factor in the coming game, I would walk Cullen and Orana down the imaginary aisle and give them many curly haired, 1/2 elf babies to compensate them for all the tragedy and woe.

Oh no...! Not a Cullen x Anders shipper. I just like the idea of them working together because there's no better alternative in a volatile world that would destroy them both and learning to poooossibly be friends.

Orana, as in, the slave girl you rescue during "A Bitter Pill"?? I've never seen a pairing with her! I agree she deserves some happiness. I guess since she's always talking about "papa" I assume she's too young for a lover though. Like I see her as 14-15 or so.

In a non-shipping way (though this would be hard; the fangirl is strong with this one), I can see them being reluctant comrades fighting for a common goal, disliking one another at first, but after awhile, growing to know one another and see one another as people and not "the enemy." And yes, eventually becoming friends.

I just assumed that she was naive and immature.  I guess, she didn't look much different in age from Merril to me.  Well assuming it's not totally inappropriate, I'm shipping them.
