Nynaeve and Lan were probably the only reason I read those books. I started giving the first books a chance, but I just could not get into the stories about Matt and Ran (or whatever their names were). Then I just started to skip through the chapters to find the parts with Nyn. Eventually I dropped the series completely, it got too spread out and too weird.

I also never was comfortable with the way Jordan wrote women.

Same, the books really lost their way after Lord of Chaos for me and Crossroads of Twilight can be skipped entirely in my opinion. It' an opinion that hurts in truth because I loved them at one point. To this day I haven't read the last three books properly other than skipping straight to Nynaeve or Lans POV's or plot pertinant scenes. Like you, that relationship was the only reason I kept trying to tough it out.

You aren't wrong about Jordan writing women either, I was a heavy user of the wotmania and Dragonmount forums while the series was being written and it was a very common complaint. Thank goodness it was partialy offset by characters like Nyn, Moiraine and Verin.

I'm still catching up, so apologies iff i'm replying to something that's twenty pages back, but i'm really pleased to see someone mention Aes Sedai and their Warders, it's something that I thought of myself a couple years back and personally and could really see working. I agree though that It is perhaps too idealistic in the Dragon Age setting, but still...I find it an alluring concept and solution.

Truth is I probably just want a Dragon Age version of Nynaeve and Lan lol

This is actually something I like about the potential relationships between mages and templars.  You're right that it's probably too idealistic and romantic for the DA setting, but still...  (I saw my mage Hawkes and Fenris' relationships this way as well as some of my mage Wardens' relationship with Alistair.)  It's also one of the reasons I really loved Rhys and Evangeline's relationship.  Evangeline was what a templar is idealistically supposed to be.  And I also loved that it was a woman in the guardian role in that relationship; I love reversed gender roles and you don't see that often.

@Dirge, I hate Sumia for many reasons, that I won't bore you with. Just the big ones. Firstly, she's always trying to move in on my man Chrom. And that just don't sit right with me. Secondly, her supports with him show she doesn't want to be his wife, she wants to be his maid. I just want to kick her anti-feminist arse into the 21st century, or whatever time period that came up with Sully. Who IS awesome. Because she's not taking no ****. And doesn't talk about how rhubarb helps keep you regular to her potential love interest.

I wonder if the DA franchise will ever make a character that is universally disliked for being a complete arsehole, like Joffrey is/was from GoT?

Howe, Petrice and Vaughn, I guess.

I don't think I have ever hated a video game character as much I did Petrice. She is a vile, petty, woman who deserved the death that she got. My only caveat is that I wasn't able to shove a lightning bolt through her chest.

I think she was a well written character, that deserved her fate.

Good grief, at this rate my ignore list is going to be as long as my arm!

Someone here?

Ah, I see, I see! I never kept her in my party long enough to unlock any of her supports, so I never saw those. If I had, I'd likely be just as annoyed.

Chrom never interested me like that, but I DID dislike the whole CHROM/SUMIA IS CANON feel. In a game where there's multiple options for each character, they really should have avoided making one seem more canon than the others-- especially when the player's character is an option! Personally, I always paired Chrom with Maribelle just because I couldn't properly pair her with Lissa. And Maribelle's son is one of my favourites, so...

Actually, I just love the hell out of Maribelle period.

And Sully is awesome! I really need to do a game where I check out her supports with Chrom. *scratches chin*

(Yes, those this-is-the-canon-pairing cutscenes are just a slap in my lovely face)

Honestly, I'd be more tempted to go for Gaius, (because Gideon Emery), but Chrom also offers job and financial security, and since I'm not a great tactician, I feel like I need that. ;) If I play a male, I usually go for Chrom/Olivia, because I'm so awkward, and you need to get their support levels in that one mission. I would do Chrom/Sully, but I just prefer he other supports, since those don't show just how awesome she is as well. My ideal pairing would be Chrom/Cordelia, but it's not meant to be.

FFFFF--! YES.

I was so annoyed that I couldn't hook Chrom and Cordelia up! Cordelia, bby. It's okay. You don't need no prince.

I ship..... NO ONE! *cackles and runs off* No, but seriously, I have issues when it comes to shipping anyone with anyone.

I always shipped Hermione and Draco.

There always seemed to be a lot of sexual tension, plus that good girl/bad boy vibe.

I didn't ship Cullen with anyone in Kirkwall, not even Hawke. I always felt like he was too drawn to his duty, and that he was still getting over what happened in the Ferelden Circle. I felt like even though he was in an upper management position, he was still healing, and focusing everything he had on things to keep him busy.

Which is why I'm so glad that he's finally an LI in Inquisition. I think this means that Cullen feels that he's healed enough, and can allow himself to finally open up to another person.

Between Hermione and Draco. I always felt like he was secretly attracted to her, even though she was muggle-born. So he insulted her to get her attention, to be able to talk to her in front of his friends. It's like that little boy in third grade that pulls your braid in order to get you to turn around and look at him, even if it is with annoyance.

So, I'm straight, and sometimes I go for lesbian romances in DA games. Just wondering if you would go for Cullen. Maybe if Cullen was Cullena?

In such a case... probably below Vivienne in priority.

I... don't know, given that he was practically drooling over the possibility of her being killed in the second book. I'm fairly sure their mutual hatred was that alone.

Over in the other Cullen thread, someone had mentioned that the people going over the hill towards "Skyhold" looked like Templars with shields on their backs. And we all know the guy waving is Cullen.

So, if that's true, do you think Cullen is bringing his Templars from Kirkwall? What if Keran and his sister are amongst them? Or Hugh? He said he was made a pariah for speaking out against Meredith. I'd actually like to see them again in Inquisition.

I rarely ship. Except of course in games like Fire Emblem Awakening, where shipping is basically the game. And Avatar, but I've come to think it's just as unavoidable there too. So I don't think I have many Dragon Age ships, outside of my protagonist and their LI, of course. I don't really have any non-canon ships. Except for maybe Nathaniel and Velanna, but there is definite attraction there in the banter and I wouldn't want it to go any further anyway.

I'm sure you're right about Hermione and Draco hating each other. My shipping of the two comes from reading fan fics when it was taking so long for the books to come out (Order of the Phoenix and the rest). Shipping someone with a person that they likely wouldn't be with is all in good fun.

While their outfit can be the templars one, they could very well be Inquisition's we saw at PAX as well, which I think they are.

I think they're both? Shields for some, backpacks for others.

And I forgot my Harry Potter OTP. Draco and Ebony Dark'ness Dementia Raven Way. Because that fanfiction is by far the best thing I've ever read.

OH MY GOD, ME TOO. I read a lot of fanfics while waiting for HBP, and came across Hermione/Draco stuff. At first I was like "wtf is this foolishness? no way. *frowny face*" But then I actually read some and it was GOOD.
