So, this is from waaaaaay back, but - Cullen and shipping? I guess I'm an oddity as a forums-active fan, because.... I really don't do the shipping thing. The only exception would be daydreaming up stories of some of my Wardens or Hawkes in a relationship with someone not an LI (yet)like Cullen or Nathaniel Howe (yes, I adore him. ADORE HIM. ALWAYS!!!). Outside of that shipping... At best it bewilders me in a bemused "ooookay then" kind of way... And some just outright give me the heebie jeebies, like Anders x Fenris. The thing is I can't give a good reason for why it doesn't appeal to me... The closest I can get is to admit a selfish possessiveness of all the characters, if that makes any sense.

I know what you mean about Fenders; I feel the same way, but I hope if any Fenders fans are reading that you aren't offended :P It's everyone's right to love whatever pairings they love.

Me, I'm all about shipping, and not just shipping, OTPs. I was an anime/manga fan for 10+ years before finding RPGs so it just comes naturally to me at this point. Though, funny thing is, regarding DA, as I said before, is that I don't really have OTPs for DA other than M!Hawke x Fenris (I really greatly dislike F!Hawke x Fenris, almost more than Fenders; it's completely insane and irrational, but that's what shipping does to a person... MAKES THEM CRAZY!!!! ...).

I think being in this thread and reading everyone's various fanfics and seeing fanart has made me open to not just shipping Cullen with lots of different folks but with "free shipping" for all DA characters except Fenris, duh.

Same with ME; I love Shenko and Shoker equally. I read a Shoker fic once that had Kaidan x Steve as a pairing o.O and also Sam x EDI. Okay, Sam x EDI was actually kind of cute! (And has precedent, which is more than I can say for Kaidan x Steve... do they even talk to each other...?)

That he has. I found out yesterday that he was in an episode of Star Trek Deep Space Nine. And sooo many other things that I'm boggled.

I was tidying up my hard drive a couple of days ago and came across several game recordings I'd forgotten I had, including some KotOR 2 ones. Out of interest to see iff they were worth keeping I watched a couple of them and couldn't believe I never realised that he voiced Disciple. It really does seem he gets everywhere, not that I'm complaining lol

I disagree, as I have stated, we still don't know that 3/3/3 is a thing. Therefore that adds on to the whole possibility. Also, we don't know if GW is a companion. Again, needs to be completely confirmed.

I agree. (I think I said that? In the line you quoted, even. )  Although "even spread" has a definite quality to it, it doesn't say, exactly, we have a 3/3/3 class spread. Thus, there could be four Warriors (the likely class to have more) and space for both Cullen and a Warrior Grey Warden.

However, if there are even classes, then one of the believed-Warrior companions would need to be a rogue for Cullen to have a spot. As we've seen Cullen as a Warrior in DAO and DA2, we could assume he'd retain his class. The only other possible companion at this point is the Grey Warden, and he was shown pre-alpha as a Warrior. He'd need to be remade as a rogue. Which could have happened. I've said before that the Devs have spoken about blowing up characters who don't fit in and remaking them (Varric in DA2), and that David Gaider had to completely rewrite a character for DAI. That character could have been the Grey Warden.

It's all guesswork, though.

Alistair technically never became a Templar, though, in his defense.

He still share a lot of the templars' views. And I forgot to mention that we'll get cassandra, which might make Cullen redundant.
Granted, I don't believe that having Alistair and Fenris in the past, and Cass now, means that Cullen is redundant; I'm saying that based on what CuriousArtemis said on already had apostates and pro-Circle mages, he should be considered redundant .

Completely missed that...

Vivienne's pro-Circle status is different from Wynne's and Bethany's, as well As her reasons for supporting the status quo.
Solas is an apostate, but that doesn't mean he'll share the same view as the ones we had before. Morrigan and Anderd were both apostates, and their views and opinions were different.
It's like saying that Cullen would be redundant because we already got Alistair and Fenris, who covered the templar/anti-mage views.

Nah, I disagree about Vivienne (so FAR); I see her and Wynne as being very similar, and Bethany as well. They all love the Circle and think it was working just swimmingly. That's not to say I will dislike Vivienne; I think she will be awesome. But I'm a little bored with Circle mages at this point.

As for apostates, yeah, we've had Morrigan and Anders, but Anders is a former Circle mage whereas Morrigan was raised outside the Circle all her life. So that's a huge difference.

Cullen and Alistair are nothing alike; Alistair only has the general distrust of apostates that all Fereldans have; he's not really a templar at all. Cullen and Fenris? Yes, they're actually astonishingly similar; perhaps that's why I love them both so much! :P Clearly I am biased in that instance.

I have an issue shipping characters because then my mind makes it canon, and that, in turn, depresses my gameplay. It's like: "Oh, look, Alistair should be with Morrigan so my character has to be forever alone in order for that to happen" or "Oh look Fenris should be with M!Hawke instead, so my F!Hawke can't romance him". It's how my brain works, so I don't "ship" anyone. :/

I just found out he did the voice for Ty the Tasmanian Tiger.  Honestly, his VAing is bloody brilliant, it sounds nothing like his own voice.  He just seems to have literally popped up everywhere, he's even in the hobbit apparently?! :D

It's like that Mark Shepard meme that demands you turn in your geek card if you don't know who he is... Only with Greg. ;)

For example: his Cardassian Ekoor who was a last second turncoat - from Dominion ally back to Cardassian patriot....

My theory is that Cullen will either be released as a Follower Friday (companion) or shown during E3 in the Skyhold (NPC). Or leaked by a magazine.

*crosses fingers for FF* What?! A girl can dream, you know! *grumbles*

EDIT: I wouldn't count my cards on a magazine though....

He's the net mender. And I read somewhere that he's taking over Tim Curry's role of the evil Dr. Morocco in Rescue Bots, which is a Transformers spinoff cartoon, I think.

Yes, they're actually astonishingly similar; perhaps that's why I love them both so much! :P Clearly I am biased in that instance.

For starters, Wynned didn't believe that the Circle worked swimmingly: she believed that some reforms were necessary.
And on Vivienne, nothing I see so far makes me believe that she loves the Circle (she doesn't even live here ) or that everything worked perfectly; her support of the Circle seems to me to be based on the fact that she acquired power and status in this system, and that she doesn't want that to end. She's quite different from Wynne.
You're right that Anders was from a different background from Morrigan; the same can be for Solas. We don't know yet his background, so we can't say that it's similar, or that his views will be similar to Andsrs and Morrigan.
I wasn't saying that Cullen and Alistair are similar (though you're right on teb similarity with Fenris); i compared that Al/Fenris can be considered for Cullen as ' Anders/Morrigan' are fromSolas and 'Wynne/Bethany' for Vivienne, by your logic.
My point is, having character with similar backgrounds doesn't mean that they'll be the same and their views are the same.

I'm not sure if I think that Cullen is a companion or not. There are just so many possibilities and things we don't know. Maybe it's not really 3/3/3, the Grey Warden is a temporary companion/rogue ... they could even make Cullen a rogue if they want to. Honestly, without all this information I got here I would probably think "Cullen is a companion, they just don't want to announce it right now." ME 3 had NPC romances, but those characters couldn't fight. Cullen has battle experience, so it's a different situation. I just don't know anymore ... but a few of my favorite BioWare characters were NPCs, so it should be fine. Still, I'd like to know ... and not on the day before the release of the game ;)

You know, I sometimes wonder if we at the forum suffer from over-saturation of information. To the outside public, if there's someone you can have a romantic relationship with in a Dragon Age game then they are also a companion. Cullen is a romance in Dragon Age? Oh, he's a companion! That's it, that's the end of it. Because we all visit the forums, we get tied up in the complexities of we saw this and we heard this and possibly they meant this.

In fact, has Bioware ever announced a strictly NPC romance? Was Chambers announced as a romance? Or Traynor or Cortez or Allers?

Are we over-thinking this whole thing?

Nope. We were off on the date of the announcement of Follower Friday (alas), so maybe next week.

Or later today, who knows anymore?

Haha, he's gonna be a new Steve Blum at this rate. I was a massive fan of DS9 back when it originally aired, gonna have to give a rewatch sometime, hopefully it hasn't aged as badly as Next Gen lol

Agreed. I just think it's too early to assume anything and that nothing is absolute, yet. Especially the whole idea of NPC romances which has become fact to a lot of people even though the Devs never stated anything of the sort. LI's have, traditionally, always been companions, as well. So, unless they state otherwise, I am tossing the idea of NPC on the back-burner as it has not been done/stated at all within the history of the DA games. Plus, many people think there are connections between ME3 because of this, but they are their own respective teams. It's just the absolute assumptions that something is fact that gets to me. Such as GW being a companion, there being advisors, "Dorian", "Cole", what areas of the maps we are traveling, etc.

EDIT: Even the magazines have been off with information and those facts had to be addressed by the devs

I agree completely. And what is worse is that we suffer from an over-saturation of tidbits of information and speculation therein. So the guessing game becomes much more difficult because we throw in all these bits and pieces of conjecture. Add to that the times were we are given patently erroneous information from mags and such and it becomes a shambles.

Bottom line: we're really our own worse enemies here :D

I think we knew Chambers was a 'romance' (I use romance loosely with that one) before the game shipped, but I'm not a 100% positive.

We re-watched it a couple of years ago and, though I found a little corny at times, it was still good. I particularly saw some relationships and characters in new and better ways. :) Greg's Cardassian doesn't show up until the finale, "What You Leave Behind". And he's pretty minor to boot. He rocks a gruff American sound though! ^_^

Edited to add: Oh god! TNG aged terribly! And I remembered so fondly too. At least the first few seasons anyway. It seemed better later on. :)
